Eagles Song Survivor: The Long Run

Although voting hasn't yet finished, I think I'm going to start , and I probably won't stop before Christmas.
Tim can rock with the best of them when he's given the chance. As those of us who've seen and heard 'Parachute' live will testify.

(Though I suppose most of you must love him in a way because he did make final two. )

I absolutely love Timmy and if ICTYW was competing for the win against any other song except Heartache Tonight it would have my vote in a hot second. But HA is pretty much my favorite Eagles song so what choice do I have?

As much as I love I Can't Tell You Why with its smoky vocals, great melodic interplay, and those slow, sensual guitar solos...

I cast my vote (to no one's surprise) for the awesomeness that is known as

HEARTACHE TONIGHT!

Because I am pressed for time, I'm going to copy and paste my description from the "Celebration of the Long Run" thread to explain why it should win:

Here we have the highlight of The Long Run which is right up there with the Eagles' best work. This song showed they could still pull it out. What's not to like about it? Glenn's vocal is off the chain - no wonder he won a freaking Grammy for it! The way he growls "Heartache Tonight" and belts out that chorus, the way he sings that "We can beat around the bushes" segment, even his whoops at the end.... they all exude vitality and energy; it's the way he sings the entire song. It's downright exciting to listen to it. It makes you wanna crank the volume up and rock out, singing along at the top of your lungs. The catchy guitar riffs, the way the guitar starts up, then backs off and sneaks back in as you move towards the chorus at which point it comes back full blast, the part where the music drops out and the vocals go acapella with just the beat, the use of the handclaps... everything about this song works. To this day it's a showstopper that brings the house down. To put it simply: Heartache Tonight ROCKS MY WORLD!!

I've said this before - I don't have a single favorite Eagles song. However, this song is always near the top of the list for me. Therefore, to quote Soda further ...

Congratulations to Heartache Tonight and to the runner-up, I Can't Tell You Why. For some reason I feel like ICTYW was the underdog to The Long Run, and I like rooting for the underdog. Here's to a fun and interesting game!

Just in case I didn't make myself clear before, I absolutely LOVE this song. To me, it is definitely one of the top five songs in the band's entire catalog - just a cut above most of the rest. Nothing against the other songs, but I honestly would have been shocked if it had not won this game. I really do love The Long Run and I Can't Tell You Why as well, but my guess is The Long Run would not have won this game against Heartache Tonight either. All you have to do is listen to the audience's reaction at a live show to see how much most people love this song.

One thing I forgot to post earlier is about how much my young niece and nephew love the song. Whenever it plays when we are riding in my car, my 5-year old niece thinks Glenn is singing "There's going to be a party tonight". It makes her 8-year old brother really mad that she keeps messing the song up when she is rocking out to it.
