Discussion of Eagles Documentary "History of the Eagles"

OK, U.K. FANS...HERE IT IS....
Our favorite guys are headed across the pond the end of April to promote the DVD at Sundance London. (Didn't see this posted anywhere yet so if someone already put it here somewhere, sorry for the duplication!)

Perhaps I've missed it before, but I found this earlier, referencing the tour having a stop here in DC. I found this part interesting:

History of the Eagles made its television broadcast debut on Showtime last month, earning the network its highest ratings for a music documentary in eight years. Part One premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January to great acclaim

I really think the documentary as a whole did a lot of good for everyone involved from the band to the network to the fans.

I think the documentary made some new fans, reminded people of the band who might have been prior fans, and also really gave the hardcore fans something new and exciting. I think it really made a lot of buzz. Was there things I'd change about it, yes (and not just the Part 2 incident), but overall it was a fantastic documentary and I think it really is something very cool. It's great to hear the stories, see the great footage, and really give something new to the fans. And when it comes out on disc, I think the Hotel California tour footage is going to make a big buzz itself as that is something really special, my bias for that lineup aside. I think having such high quality footage of the band at what most (not just myself) consider their prime is awesome.

I think the documentary did more good than bad for the band certainly and while people may not like this or that about it I think most people thought it was fantastic.

What I'd personally like to see is more of the high quality footage on DVD, and not just from the HC tour but Long Run and HFO tour era footage too from the archives as well as a new concert DVD. I would pay for those alone. I myself have never seen any Long Run era video except for what was in the doc. Maybe they will make a DVD from the "History" tour, just a thought.

I so wish they would release more old concert footage. Wouldn't that be awesome! And they said they were going to make a dvd from LROOE, but that never happened. Wish they would do the HotE tour.

I remember now what I've been wanting to put on here! One of my co-workers was at the 1977 concert in Landover, and he remembers them filming it. He doesn't think the whole thing was filmed, but he doesn't remember for sure. He said the band was more concerned about it being filmed than actually playing to the audience that was there. At least where he was sitting, there were a lot of grumbles about it. He said that once the filming stopped and people were shouting, 'they came back out' and did songs like PEF. He said he and those around him had gotten the impression they weren't too concerned about playing the other songs and didn't put themselves into it like they had the earlier songs.

If he mentioned where he had been sitting, I can't remember it. At any rate, he is very definitely looking forward to getting his hands on the bonus DVD as he expects it'll bring back a lot of good memories. He said that even with the negativity of what I just wrote above, it was still one of the best concerts he'd ever seen. He hasn't seen the documentary yet as he doesn't get Showtime.

Whenever they say "Thats all the footage or audio we have of them live" dont always believe them.

The DOC did get me reconnected with the Eagles and also with the Doors my other favorite band. So I started buying some Vinil LPs from both bands for my new music room (see the memorabilia thread) and while researching some Doors stuff, I just discovered that in 2000 (long time ago but I wanst paying attention) The Doors formed Bright Midnight Archives a company that started in 2000 slowly releasing 36 CDs worth (yeah..36!) of Live concerts in their entirety unedited including crowd chatter, stage tuning, even rehersals when recorded....its insane...and I just discovered this yesterday night! They even aquired and released bootleg shows most famously The Doors Live at The Matrix from 1967 before they were big. It was recorded by the owner of the Bar with professional equipment. One other released Doors show is Live in Boston a 3 CD set in which Morrison is in a drunken fury. Also a 6 CD set Live in New York (4 shows in 2 days) from 1970 where he is more well behaved....plus other CD sets of shows in Vancouver, Pittsburg, Detroit...etc... Of course the Doors shows probably varied from day to day then the more rehearsed Eagles that usually stuck to set lists. So listening to various Doors shows from within Days is probably more adventurous than Eagles shows, that may or may not have sound all very alike one another. But still would be cool to hear.

So....I would not doubt that there is stuff out there stored away of live Eagles stuff from way back. The Doors said that all this material was stored all over the world and now all secured in California. They continue to release the material every couple of years.

I have said that before too...I would totally pay for high quality releases of their old gigs! I am so excited that they put the Washington DC 1977 concert on this release!

The Doors are my other favorite band too!
In fact, I'm going to see The Soft Parade tomorrow night. They are a fantastic tribute band that have been around since 1991. I've seen them a bunch of times, and the guys have become friends of mine.

but yes I agree with you...I even thought I heard somewhere (maybe even in the History of the Eagles) that the Eagles recorded every single live show....so there is definitely more!
