As for the shyness thing, I've always thought that Don has a shyness and an awkwardness about him at times. He definitely seems like an introvert. He has talked about how Glenn really had to coax ideas out of him in their early songwriting days... he was never forthcoming with ideas like Glenn was. I think the part in the DVD about questioning his own worth and abilities taps into an important facet of his personality. He is always hard on himself and I think somewhat uncomfortable with elements of his fame and success. That's not to say that he hasn't gained a lot of confidence over the years... but I do believe that he is shy and introspective by nature.

It's so ironic that nowadays, he has a reputation amongst the general populace for being arrogant and self-important. That's not the Don we see there for sure!

This is the point I was trying to get at. I think out of all of them, 70's Don surprised me the most. I was expecting some cocky, young guy, brimming with self-confidence. Instead, I saw a young guy questioning himself at every turn. What a refreshing surprise! Who knew!

Yes, I honed in on the part where he is questioning why he gained success and not some other musician who worked just as hard and had just as much talent. That statement alone spoke volumes about how Don Henley thinks about things.

Thank you for this one! I used to have a slight variation of this picture hanging in my locker in high school. I think I cut it out of that California Rock, California Sound book. Haven't seen it in years

Keeping in mind that my memory is feeble, I believe in the HOTE, in that footage of them on the boat, Don may have had this facial hair, or something pretty close to it. Sometime around 1978 or so?

I may be completely off with this, but I think that's within a year or two.
