Yeah that last one looks like something from Tales of the Crypt! But they're all great!

    Soda,

and in several following that one, Joe is playing a Tacoma guitar. Is he playing that in songs during the current tour? If so, is it a normal guitar or is it a "baritone"? I mean, does the guitar have a deeper tone than you would expect to hear out of an acoustic?

They are amazing instruments as I've said many times before. "Fender" has bought them out and closed the Tacoma shop in Washington supposedly while they move the shop to the northeast. This happened I guess a couple of years ago but I haven't heard anything on the blurb sheets about Fender offering new "Tacomas" for sale.

Mike, I think that's the guitar he's playing in my sig picture. I don't know anything about guitars, but yes, he was playing it during the accoustic set.

    Thanks PM.

I'll have to see if I can find a video of that set. I think when we got LROE, we only got the CD. I'd like to hear that git again to see if it sounds as good as the one I "auditioned" back in the mid-90's. The brain has a tendency to exaggerate the quality things that once impresses (at least my brain does that!) and that particular model guitar was not a terribly popular one. It makes me think Joe saw or heard the same thing out of it that I heard.

I'm pretty sure that Joe is playing the Baritone version of that line of guitars. Suspicion only though. Judging by the depth of the body and the length of the neck. The neck on a Baritone Tacoma is 29" scale. On a normal guitar, the scale is 24" or 25". It's really difficult for me to tell though.

I read up on the "Chief" line since that is the model that I auditioned. Like the RoadKing, it has the mysteriously placed and shaped sound hole, but the Chief has a smaller body shaped more like a "jumbo" that is more symetrically shaped with a more rounded body. The RoadKing has a larger body that has a dreadnought shape similar to most acoustic guitars.

The thing that makes them "unique" visually of course is the soundhole. But that is shaped and positioned that was for a reason. It provides more wood surface where it is needed to get the bass tone balanced with the treble tone of the higher strings. What you can't see is the unique bracing they use to provide the strength and that also minimizes sound becoming "lost" before it ever exits the guitar.

The thing that worries me is that if Fender does start putting this line of guitars out again, they will increase the price over what the Tacoma folks charged for this rather unique instrument.
