Awww, Happy Birthday to all, but especially to Roger Taylor! He's always been a cutie. I'll always treasure my very brief encounter with him! He looked like a rock star - long black coat, black shades indoors, a beautiful woman on his arm - but he was polite and courteous.

Dang girl!!! Do I know that story? I just don't feel worthy next to you!
You've spoken to Levon Helm on the phone. That one thing matches up to all of my experiences, IMHO! :faint:
I think I told the story a little while ago. It was while I was working at the theatre. I'd met Brian May quite a few times, but this one particular night there was a special show because it was either the 5th year of the show, or the anniversary of Freddie Mercury's death. I can't remember which. Anyway, there were a few famous people there (Ben Elton, Paul Young, Brian May)... I'd hoped Roger Taylor might be there, but there was no sign of him. He didn't come to any 'normal' shows, like Brian did. I was working on the kiosk in the foyer - very glamorous, of course! - and when everyone had gone back inside the auditorium, after the interval, I was counting up the money alone. I happened to glance up to my left and I saw Roger Taylor, as I said earlier, dressed in a long black coat with black sunglasses, walking down the steps towards me, with a woman. I nearly died! He stopped and said "Hello there." Then he asked if he could go straight in to the VIP suite, which was right next to my kiosk. (Who was I to say no?) Anyway, just as he asked, a security guy came out of the suite and beckoned Roger in. Roger said thank you to me and went on inside. Very brief, but cool. I didn't expect him to be there because he didn't really attend the theatre like Brian did... So it was a big surprise when I saw him walking down those stairs! He definitely gave off more of a rock star vibe than Brian May - but that was probably the way he was dressed, and the fact that I wasn't expecting to see him - but he was polite and seemed like a nice guy. He went on stage with Brian May and Ben Elton towards the end of the show to say thank you to the cast and the audience. I can't remember exactly why, but I remember thinking that he must have had one or two drinks in that VIP suite between the time that I saw him and the time he went on stage! The audience loved it, anyway.

I do remember that story now. I have a friend on Facebook that LOVES Roger, I need to tell her that story! BTW--Brian May is a Facebook friend of mine and HE'S the one that requested me! :hilarious: We have a couple mutual friends on there and I'm sure one of them suggested he add me because of all the musical stuff but pretty cool anyways! I think I even archived the email that said "Brian May has requested you as a friend". I'm so pathetic! :hilarious:

My husband worships Rush but I don't really get them. The only albums I put on my iPod are Test For Echo & Feedback which is an album of 60s covers plus a couple of separate tracks (Animate, Roll The Bones, One Little Victory). I suppose if I had a favourite of the songs I do like they are Driven & Resist.

No, it makes no difference at all Dreamer - in fact I think i've discovered the reason.
I was just on the phone to my brother who lives about 60 miles away telling him to watch a particular video on you tube - it was 9 minutes long, we both started at the same time and he had viewed his while I was still less than a minute in :eyebrow: :-(
I'm assuming it's because where I live is a very heavily populated area whilst he lives in the country - just not enough bandwidth to go round I guess! :computer:

Try pressing "play," then immediately hit the "pause" button, letting the light red bar run to the end. After it's reached the end, hit "Play" again. This often works because the file has been put into your temporary cache.

It's been a long time since I watched these lights alone
I look around my life tonight and you are gone
I might have done something to keep you if I'd known
How unhappy you had become
While I was dreaming of you
With my heart in your hands
And I was following though
With my beautiful plans
Yeah now I'm rolling down this canyon drive
With your laughter in my head
I'm gonna have to block it out somehow to survive
'cause those dreams are dead
And I'm alive
I want to go where I will never hear your name
I want to lose my sorrow and be free again
And I know I've been insane
When I think of places I could have been
But I was dreaming of you
With my heart in your hands
And I was following through
With my beautiful plans
Standing here by the highway side
Watching these trucks blow by
Inches from my face
Yeah thinking 'bout the time I've wasted
And the pleasure we once tasted
Looking up and down this road
I've been here before
Can't be here no more
Yeah now I'm rolling down California five
With your laughter in my head
I'm gonna have to block it out somehow to survive
'cause those dreams are dead
And I'm alive
Hey look at the way I believed in you
And loved you all these years
Now you can fill a swimming pool with all my salty tears
you could have told me what was in your heart
but baby you lied
I thought that it would kill me
But I'm alive
Yeah, I'm alive
With my heart in your hands
And I was following though
With my beautiful plans
Yeah now I'm rolling down this canyon drive
With your laughter in my head
I'm gonna have to block it out somehow to survive
'cause those dreams are dead

You met Julian? I really liked him back in the 80s when he started in the business. He seemed like a pretty cool guy on top of being talented. Have to admit, I've always felt a bit sorry for him since it seemed he kinda got the shaft from his father and Yoko.

I am finding it so hard to believe that John Lennon would have been 70 years old today. I've been watching some of his videos to celebrate his life. What wonderful music-what an incredible person and musician! I can still remember being 12 years old in 1964, and the great excitement of watching the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show! Happy Birthday Neil! :birthday: What an awesome talent you are!
Thanks so much for those videos, Louise. They are wonderful. Heart of Gold is one of my all time favorite songs. I think it has one of the most clever lyrics ever: I'm a miner for a heart of gold. And it takes me back to my high school days and some very special memories. Whenever I hear it I remember.......:)
You know, there are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many talented musicians in the world. Since I do not have one ounce of musical talent I'm just blown away by them all. But especially those from my younger days. I think the 60's and 70's were a time never to be known again as far as the music scene. So much talent came from that era. I just can't think of anything of recent years that compares to it. Like they say, how many artists of today will be remembered 30 or 40 years from now? Not very many in my humble opinion.

Love you Neil. The best concert I ever saw, back in 1985 when I was front & centre. The first half was all acoustic (including the late Ben Keith on pedal steel), then he drawled 'goin' off to see a man about a horse' & came back with Crazy Horse & blew us away with the electric stuff.

TG, after reading your post I did some research. In 2002 Gordon Lightfoot underwent surgery for a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm, enduring a six week coma and a tracheotomy. He underwent four surgical operations and remained in the hospital for three months.
In 2006 he sufffered a light stroke during a performance that left him without the use of his middle and ring finger on his right hand. For a brief time he used a substitute guitarist for more difficult guitar work, but by early 2007 he had regained full use of his right hand and plays all of the guitar parts in concert as he originally wrote them.
In February 2010 Gordon was the victim of a death hoax originating from Twitter. He quickly dispelled those rumors by reporting that he was alive and well. He continues to perform today.
----------------------------------------------------------
I had no idea about his health. I, like you, mostly listened to his work from the 60's and 70's. I heard he was going to be in the Chicago area this past October and expressed to Hubby that I would like to see him, but we didn't go. I'd like to see him soon.

I had tickets for his concert here in 2002 which, of course was cancelled. At that time I never would have thought that he would ever be performing again! He was back here last year some time, but I wasn't able to go. :-( Still hoping to see him sometime. He's a survivor!

I've seen a couple more on CMT. I like his voice, but not the way he acts. He hosted one of the country awards shows and acted terrible. It's amazing how so many rock artists are trying to immerse themselves in the country genre. KR, Sheryl Crow, Darius Rucker, Bon Jovi, Eagles, , VanZant (parts of Lynyrd Skynyrd and 38 Special) even John Fogerty. I'm sure there are more, but those are off the top of my head. Country is so popular that I guess they think they will get more airtime if they can get on shows like CMT and GAC.

My my my, Jonny Lang can play that thang! I like his voice too; however, the first video didn't seemed to be mixed well. The instruments and the backup singers were louder than his vocal.
Did I mention that the guy exudes sex!
Happy birthday Jonny!

Cathy, I have certainly been very fortunate to have attended the concerts I have, and seen the artists that I love so much! Funnily enough, right now I don't have any plans to see any concerts, but I am HOPING to get a last minute ticket to see Elton John in March! (on his birthday too!:partytime:)
Koala, I saw Genesis about three or four times, in the mid-eighties and early 90's. I saw Phil twice-during his "But Seriously" tour and during his "Dance into the Light" tour. All those concerts were fantastic!

Today is Graham Nash's birthday. I was beyond thrilled to see CSN back in July... to get within a few inches of him was something I'll always treasure!

Great video! GNR was a great band. It's a shame they couldn't have gotten over all of their issues and stayed together. I firmly believe if they would have kept at it they would have been in the same league as Zep and the other legendary hard rock bands.

Soda, thanks so much for the Monkees video. It really brought back memories! I think I had almost all of their albums.
BTW, Davy seems to really be getting off on those chimes!
Here's one of my favorite Monkee songs and I think it's stood the test of time. They really liked those double breasted shirts, huh?

Just a little tidbit of info about Peter Tork that some of you mightn't know....I didn't 'till I read it a few days ago..........Graham Nash was turned down for the Monkees and it was him that recommended Peter
edited to emend.....
I've read so much about so many people lately, I could be confused, and now I can't find the piece I was talking about......So, Soda could well be right when she says it was Stephen Stills, not Graham Nash......I bow to her greater knowledge....Sorry!

Willie, thanks so much for posting these videos to celebrate Billie Joe's birthday! I had never seen the version of "Good Riddance" from Neil Young's Bridge School concert, and it was great to see it! I hope Green Day play there again and I get to see it. I think they first played there in 1999.

I have both Micky Dolenz's and Davy Jones' autobiographies - from what I remember, it was Stephen Stills who auditioned and got pretty far but was ultimately turned down because he didn't have good teeth. When told the bad news, he recommended Peter Tork as someone with similar talents and a prettier face. ;)
And love the Green Day videos! This one really moves me:
