Soda, thanks so much for posting that BOS video. I absolutely love that version. It's so beautiful. And might I add that Don is looking pretty darn good during that Story Tellers concert.

I noticed that too!!! My first reaction when i saw that was literally "OH MY GOD!!!" with a hand over my mouth. Of course I had to replay that part a few times. He is sooo darn cute!! Oh, i would love to be in Stevie's shoes during that moment in the video. And Maleah, your so right about Don and Stevie's chemistry they are really cute together.

I know! I had to watch it over...and over...and over...and over again! LOL I had the same reaction! I gasped and literally giggled out loud. LOL! I can't believe he did that....and his little giggle and smile with his shoulders shaking from his laugh was just too cute. I loved the look she had on her face when she looked over at him too. So cute. And she didn't miss a beat! Didn't even really look startled that he did it!

I thought she looked like she thought about slapping him! LOL! I think it's great that they have such a great relationship still. I still wonder how Sharon feels tho when she sees things like that! :eyebrow: I don't think I'd be confident enough if my husband was licking an ex's hand! JMHO.

When she put her hand to his cheek, I thought, "Aw." When he licked her hand, I thought "WOAH!" lol And no, she didn't look shocked. Maybe that was one of things he liked to do back in the day... ;)

Since his wife gets a lot more than a hand lick on a regular basis, though, I imagine she didn't sweat it. lol

I think Don loves it when Stevie gets "touchy-feely" with him. The Eagles have their rehearsed back-and-forths, but I bet that gets pretty old! Stevie brought on a whole new concert experience for him!

That is so the opposite reaction that I would have if he were to do that to me.

I recognize Sheryl Crow (with really short hair) but who are the other people in Don's clip? And what is SonicNet anyway? I've never heard of it.

The emo-looking guy is Johnny Resnick from the Goo Goo Dolls. I didn't recognize the other guy right off, but underneath the clip it says he is named "Beenie Man." Mmmkay. lol

I was trying to remember what Sonicnet.com was, too. The site (http://www.sonicnet.com/) tells you nothing.

That was a great clip, thanks for posting it FFL. Love when Don stuck his hands out like Frankenstein when they played that little organ bit at the very end of the song, and love how he & Dave do that 'You Da Man" stuff. Wish whoever posted that clip on YouTube had included the bit when he sat down to talk with Dave afterwards.

And Peek--great clip of Leather & Lace! With that minimal guitar, you can really hear their voices well. They both sound so young.

Yeah, Don is lip-syncing on "Top of the Pops" but that's what everybody did on that show. It was like the British version of "Solid Gold."

To be honest I had never heard of TOTP till a few years back. The Sweet were on there constantly and on the Sweet board we have talked about this before--always synced. There is even a video somewhere of Sweet (don't remember what song) but Mick Tucker, the drummer, thru his sticks into the audience and you can still hear the drums distinctly. :hilarious: I know Solid Gold, American Bandstand, all those kind of shows, that's just the way it was.

Regardless, Don looks pretty darn good in that video!!!!

I love that TOTP video - absolutely adorable! Soda's right, everybody used to lip-sync on that show. The only person I have noticed singing live consistently on TOTP, even back in the early '70s, is David Bowie. Strange. It obviously could be done...

I went to see it filmed once, a couple of years ago. The studio was incredibly small and the audience is literally within feet of the artist. Oh, to have been there when Don was performing!

I agree that You Don't Know Me At All is a great song.

I had read an article the other day that Brad Paisley had covered Boys of Summer in one of his recent concerts and as I was browsing Youtube this morning I found the performance that was mentioned in the article. His version has a bit of a country flavor to it but imo he does a pretty decent job on the song.

I must say that severe sighing has commenced this side of the pond after viewing that video. What a great piece of film. Caddo Lake looks so beautiful, and I swear his voice gets sexier as he gets older.

Don talking about nature is about as good as it gets, for me! Love the outdoorsy, rugged look. Reminds me of one of my favourite pictures... (this may infact have been taken on the same shoot, I'm not sure.)

Diane, I assume you're talking about Don's wife Sharon, but Stevie gave this interview in the late 80s long before Don and Sharon were married. In fact, it was before they were even dating.

I'm not sure what Stevie meant when she said he "treats me like we were married" but I think she was trying to pay Don a compliment, call him a gentleman.

Regardless I think Stevie knows a little bit more about the way Don treated her than we do. ;)

Sodacouts, That is exactly how I took it too. Trying to pay Don a compliment, that he is a real gentleman.

EagleLady
10-06-2009, 11:23 PM
Given my experience, that chick is a liar and a cheat. I’ll give you the “gentleman” as he’s shown considerable patience on that pregnancy/abortion fabrication she was spewing all those years ago. Maybe it never occurred to her that her actions could have detrimental repercussions for others? Hey, she probably sold a bunch of records and that’s enough motivation for some. Probably wasn’t thinking of anyone but herself anyway. It’s possible he’s forgotten all about it. It’s possible that will never come back to haunt her. It’s also possible that karma’s a you-know what and I’d hate to be on the receiving end when that hits.

Wow, Just wow. I understand you are entitled to your opinion but I have not seen one thing about Stevie that shows she is a liar.

sodascouts
10-07-2009, 02:15 AM
Diane, it appears you are confused. Stevie is very tight-lipped about her pregnancy and abortion; in fact, before 1991, it was not even known that she had been pregnant and aborted the baby. Don Henley was the one who told the world about the pregnancy and abortion in an interview with GQ, and declared that he was the father. That was the first mention of it in the press EVER.

I don't know where you got your mistaken impressions, but before one makes such harsh judgments, one should be sure to get one's facts straight.

In my experience, Stevie Nicks is a kind and caring person. She sent gifts to a friend of mine near death in a hospital to comfort her because she knew she was a big Stevie fan. She personally visited wounded Gulf War veterans in a hospital and gave them gifts. She gave money to the City of Hope hospital to create a wing to help people with heart problems. These are just a few examples of her generosity; the list goes on and on.

She has changed people's lives for the better all around the world. How many of us can say that?

I think she has little to fear from "karma."

TimothyBFan

Are you saying you have experienced Stevie's lying and cheating first hand because that seems to be what you are insinuating here or am I misinterpreting it?

Of course I don't know her personally, but everything I've ever heard about her, she is a descent, caring human being.

Well, I don't know Stevie personally either, but Diane, you seem to be implying that you have personally had a pretty bad encounter with her. However, on this board, one of our guidelines asks that everyone stick to the facts when discussing a topic. Therefore, if you are going to posts such inflammatory innuendos about someone, you need to substantiate your claims with detailed facts. That was great! As you all know, I'm not a country fan but she is really talented and I do love her voice. I remember when I was working in an office back early 90/91? and we had to listen to country music every other day (I wanted to kick something those days!) and she had that song out called She's In Love With The Boy--I admit I did sing along every once in awhile. Then when this song came out a year or so later, I remember going to the office next to mine to ask the girl that was a country fan who that was singing backup. She went to her car to check the cd and came back in and told me Don. I had just known it! :hilarious: I became a little bit of a fan of hers that day.

I've always wondered why he didn't make this a regular in his live set. It smokes! I love Don when he's fierce!

So many awesome lines in this song. My fave part:

You took my breath away
Now I want it back

Ah, you should’ve killed me,
You always looked so good in black

(LOL)

Dang, people, the album is out of print! They jump on this ASAP while commercially available material from Hell Freezes Over and Farewell 1 still remains on YouTube - you can find them with a three-second search of the site - it makes no sense.

ETA: Perhaps Don is embarrassed by what he perceives to be the song's suckage? Hey, don't be ashamed of your beginnings, Don. They show how far you've come. Plus, I will go so far as to say it's not ENTIRELY sucky. Some people even like it.

I don't know if it's legal or not. The song itself is legal as parody, I believe, but the usage of the video I'm unclear on. Maybe the men in suits just haven't found it yet. Remember how infamously erratic their enforcement is.

Regardless, I hope they leave it up. Yeah, it's not as hilarious as the guy's parodies of Air Supply's "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GlJbyMrytA) and Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj-x9ygQEGA) (check those out to LAUGH) but it's still amusing and he obviously put effort into it. My favorite part: "I thought there was a Wendy's back there - what do I know?"

Don's been known to change things up before. I nearly always prefer the original versions.

Troubadour
11-12-2010, 06:08 PM
Yeah, he's done that slowed-down version of The End Of The Innocence before. I don't think it sounds awful, but I'd probably agree in this case that I'd rather hear the original. (He does kick into the original tempo halfway through the song, though.)

One slowed-down version that kills me is his Boys Of Summer performance on Storytellers. It's so sexy!

I have noticed in a couple of recent clips that Don's voice has faltered... but it is a crappy time of year for sniffles/throat problems! He seems to sound really husky at times and, like Dreamer once said, he literally doesn't sound like he can get through a show, and then you hear another song and he just NAILS IT, high notes and all! I guess it happens to everyone. Voices are bound to get strained with the cold and after so many shows.

Ive always been a dreamer
11-13-2010, 12:40 AM
Thanks Carole for all of your 'research'. I actually like the slow arrangement of EOTI for a change. I think it probably plays better if you are actually there. I usually also prefer the original arrangements too, but I don't mind them mixing it up a bit from time to time, especially at solo shows.

I think the guys are bound to struggle with their voices from time to time. Shoot - it's amazing to me that they hold up as well as they do. As I said earlier - after the Louisville show, it took me three days to get my voice back.

sodascouts
11-13-2010, 01:34 AM

cheryl
11-13-2010, 02:46 PM
Soda - I agree with you. When he sang that version in Chicago last year it blew me away. However, everything he sings does that to me.

Tequila Girl - Thanks for finding those and sharing. Needless to say I managed to get all of them copied before there taken down.

Maleah
11-14-2010, 02:11 AM
I think when you slow a song like that down, it just adds a more moving, poignant (as Soda said), and powerful moment. I generally would rather hear an original version, but I love to see things switched up sometimes. Take the HFO version of Heart of the Matter for instance, it's actually my favorite! Or as Lou mentioned, the Boys of Summer VH1 performance.....goosebumps! The key for all of these though is that as enjoyable as it is to watch/listen to the recordings, I'm sure they were even more amazing live.....as most performances are!

As for their voices struggling......it IS crazy how Don can sound SO raspy that it sounds like his voice will give out on one song.....and then be crystal clear on the next. I love rasp though, so I don't mind. ;) I don't understand how they can sing so often and still have their voices though. When my friends had a party and wanted to sing most of the night, my voice felt like it was fading after a half hour! I can't imagine doing that for 3 hours a night! LOL

If you wait until that video is over and then go to the bottom, they are offering a video with Stevie Nicks and Don Henley doing Hotel California in 2005 at Jones Beach. It is a GREAT video and it's a lot of fun watching Don and Stevie together. They also has Last Worthless Evening. Wonderful
You will also see a couple of faces that look familiar playing at that show.

Check this out guys - Don's 1989 Saturday Night Live appearance! Sheryl Crow is a backing singer. If you look, you can see her standing in between two black ladies on the a podium to Don's left with that big 80s hair (good shot of her at 3:39).

What a nice surprise. Thanks, Soda. I've never seen that video.
I love his stance during the intro -- legs spread, holding the mike, head turned to the side, Very hot. Love me a little Don.:inlove:

No problem!

You know, all of the Saturday Night Live episodes post-1980 are currently being released on DVD without the music portions. Apparently Universal/NBC thought it was too expensive to shell out for the music rights, similar to Stephen Cannel's decision not to release the music-oriented "Dead Dog" story arc of Wiseguy containing Glenn. Rather than pay for each musical guest's performances all over again, Universal simply edited them out on the DVD releases. What a loss to the fans! Thus, if you want to see performances like these, the internet is pretty much your only option.

At least the musical guests from 1975-1980 are intact on the DVD releases, but sadly the Eagles never appeared on SNL back then.

Loved the video of Last Worthless Evening. All the other video clips of Don I've seen he seems to be very restrained in - even when he's singing with a lot of passion. This one he's really getting right into the song, almost dancing.

Great video!

I'm trying to figure out who the session guitarists are....

The guy doing the solos is John Corey, who played with the Eagles for the Hell Freezes Over tour as well. The other guitarist is Frank Simes, who has backed both Don Henley and Don Felder at various times. The last time I saw Simes, he was playing with Felder - that was 2009.

The lady playing bass is Jennifer Condos. She used to play bass for Stevie Nicks; you can see her on Stevie's Live at Red Rocks concert video.

Thanks! I wasn't sure if that was Frank Simes or not - looks a bit different than on the Inside Job DVD (hairstyle). John Corey and the bassist were the ones who I was really trying to figure out who it was.

Thanks for posting that, Whitcap!

I had to laugh when the award was announced, and the song title was written in Japanese. It's a syllabic script, and it reads as "Endo of DA inosensu" (oh, and Don's name is "Don Henrii")

Also slightly disconcerted that Don's hairstyle in that clip is pretty much the same as mine (now)... hmmm.

Whenever I go to one link on YouTube I always seem to then spend about an hour gaily wandering through the other links at the side.
Following links from Whitcap's 'The End of the Innocence' at the Grammys I found this. Uninspiring video, but I doubt that there's a 'performance' version of the song.

Here's a 1994 interview with Don, although you can barely hear what he's saying over the music that's been overlaid by the uploader!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JB0bW04RHQw

It's not just stuff we've all heard 1000 times, too - and there's some rare 1994 concert footage starting about 9:45 in. I've seen the NKIT part before, but not the Victim of Love snippet.
