Time for our next Song Survivor! Our game this time will be Non-Studio Album Songs Survivor. If you're new, for a basic overview of the game, see this post: Survivor Overview (https://eaglesonlinecentral.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6551&postcount=7)

I'm going to list the Non-Studio Album songs here. Vote for the song that you feel should be eliminated from the list. The song that gets the most votes will be taken off of the list (or, in the language of Survivor, "Voted off of the island.") Each round, one more song will get axed, until there's only one left. Remember: you're voting for your LEAST favorite, not your favorite.

Each round will last 48 hours after posting to give people a chance to vote who don't post every day. That means that the first round will end at 8:00 Eastern time the day after tomorrow. If you miss a round, don't think you can't play. It's all good! However, you do need to have been a member in good standing for at least three weeks before you are allowed to cast a vote.

Since there may be discussion posts, be sure to make it clear when you are casting your vote. Votes cannot be cast after the cut off time of 8:00 on the second day, and they cannot be changed once you have voted.

If you get confused about what round we are in, look at this post. I'll always update it to reflect the current round. Also feel free to post any questions if you don't understand what's going on.

If there is a tiebreaker, then ALL votes from ALL previous rounds are tallied and whoever has the most prior votes is eliminated. That’s the way it’s done on the real show, that’s the way it’s done here. If there is a complete tie with prior votes (Murphy’s Law), then I'll have a sudden-death trivia question ready. The first person who answers it correctly gets to break the tie. The odds of that happening are slim, but you never know, and it's good to be prepared.

The tie-breaker question will be asked one hour after results are in, if there is need for it. The exception is the last round. If the tie-breaker does not resolve the last round, then the tie will be allowed to stand.

We also have immunity questions. We won't have immunity questions on the first or second-to-last-rounds, and of course we won't have them for the last round, lol. However, for the other rounds, we will.

Here's how immunity questions work. After the end of the round, I ask a question related to the songs. The first person who answers the question correctly gets to pick a remaining song to be immune - no one can vote for it on the next round. You must include both your answer and the song you wish to be immune in your post in order for it to count. I'll allow two hours for someone to answer. If no one gets it right by then, then we continue the round as normal without any song being immune. You only get one guess per round, so be careful!

GAME OVER! CONGRATS TO

SEVEN BRIDGES ROAD!

I cast my vote for Get You in the Mood.

There's a reason that it didn't make the first album. I think it's good to hear it just as a baseline representation to show how far Glenn has come as a songwriter - but it's on the bottom rung.

You decided to include it in this game after all, Soda! I know it won't last long.... :worried:

I re-read the previous game topic & while it probably will not be popular I must still vote for my least favourite of these songs. The band don't agree, as they persist in playing it while many superior songs (to me) are long gone from their setlist.

So I cast my vote for Love Will Keep Us Alive.

Well I agree that Get You In the Mood should go pretty early in the game, but to me. it's not the worst song here. As a matter of fact, I kind of like the 'moody' music in the song. I'm a bit surprised because I thought Funky New Year would be the first song eliminated here - poor thing doesn't have a lot going for it, unless you want to count repetition as a good thing. I'm gonna withhold my vote for now and see how this round plays out.

Hey all, I finally stumbled back in and look what I found! Another Survivor game to join! I really wanted to have a bit more time to catch back up and comment on the WEATHER (which I will do), but in the meantime, I will cast my vote for a song I just listened to for the first time...and was not impressed by.

I vote for GET YOU IN THE MOOD. (What album was it left off of, and where did you get it from, then?)

Eva-it was the B-side of Take It Easy but didn't make it onto the album. For good reason me thinks. JMO

And I don't think it'll ever make it onto CD. I had to order the single from Ebay and rip the song via my record player with the USB port that transfers audio to the computer.

Still, it is kind of a shame if it doesn't ever make it onto a CD simply because all Eagles music should be preserved for austerity, IMHO!

I vote for....The Girl From Yesterday. As far as Get You In the Mood though, I think it's a pretty good song. I like listening to it, the guitars are nice and a bit bluesy. I got my copy from iTunes though.

I'm going to vote for Funky New Year. Although I like it for what it is (and quite enjoy Don's grunts 'n' groans:angel:), it's obviously very much a novelty song.

I like Get You In The Mood. It's moody and, although not up to the standard of the remaining songs, I would listen to it more than Funky New Year. I think the under-produced, less-than-polished feel of it actually adds to the appeal, for me. It's like a little glimpse into the past - back to basics. Glenn's vocals are sweet and endearing.

I second all that Troub! You took the words right outta my mouth! Love Glenn's vocals on GYITM and the bluesy style of the song. FNY is right up there with Teenage Jail for me, but better!

I therefore cast my vote for Funky New Year, my first thought on what to vote for first when I knew it would be in the game!

Freypower
02-01-2011, 05:12 PM
I'm glad a couple of people have said a few positive things about GYITM. I said in the previous game that it has a certain 'raw charm' & you have to take into account how young Glenn was when he wrote it.

I'm sorry, TBF, but just as you've never liked Get You In The Mood, I'm afraid I've never liked LWKUA. There are better songs in their catalogue which they no longer play, yet they still play this. This has precisely nothing to do with Tim. The song is just bland.

I feel the same way, Troub & FP! I enjoy GYITM. I do keep in mind that is one of Glenn's early compositions when I listen to it.He does a fine job on the vocals, IMHO. :)

FNY does nothing for me. Not melodic enough.

I just logged on after about a week and saw that there's another Survivor game :yay: and I had to come here first. I immediately started making my list but I noticed that Get Over It isn't included in this game. :headscratch: Hmm, if I'm not mistaken it's also a non-studio album song too, right? I'm a bit sad to not see it in the game because I think that song totally ROCKS!! :headbang:

My vote in this first round is for Get You In The Mood. I do like Glenn's vocals but I think mostly the reason it gets my vote before FNY is because I don't listen to it very much. I will listen to FNY if it's in the rotation on my Eagles playlist but I very rarely listen GYITM. Plus, I gotta agree with Lou about Don's "grunts 'n' groans" on FNY...totally sexy, imo.

I do like the bluesy sound of GYITM and I can't help but wonder that if it had been produced for inclusion on an album that maybe it would be a better song. As it is I think Glenn's vocals sound rather weak and somewhat off key on the verses (though stronger on the chorus). It might just be this version but whatever the issue its my least favorite song of this Survivor game. However since I think a vote for it would be wasted at this point my vote this round is simply strategic with an eye toward the future and goes to Life's Been Good.

Well, as I said earlier, I would have liked to see Get You In the Mood outlast Funky New Year at least. Oh well - I guess this could be seen as the battle of songs with awesome Eagles lyrics ...

Get You In the Mood
"I get so wasted in the city
Last girl I hit on wasn't very pretty"

Funky New Year
"They were passin' 'round the bottle, made me feel brand new
Trouble with the new man - he wants a hit too, hit me"

Tough choice, for sure!

Since this round is decided, I'll go ahead and cast a strategic vote ...

I cast my vote for Hole In the World.

Life's Been Good is arguable, but Love Will Keep Us Alive was never released before the Eagles did it.

Freypower
02-02-2011, 09:14 PM
All Night Long is also arguable as it was on the Urban Cowboy soundtrack but was that released before Eagles Live? I based my answer on a belief that LWKUA had not in fact been recorded before the Eagles did even though they didn't write it. I would exempt both ANL & LBG on the basis that they were recorded first by Joe while he was a member of the Eagles (the same goes for In The City).

No, no! The guy in the song has a REALLY BAD hangover, and he's remembering how the night before he felt like a new man after drinking from the liquor bottle they were passing around (you know how it is - people become different after drinking). However, even after he got drunk and became a "new man" he got even drunker (he still wanted a "hit" even after he got drunk)... hence his horrible hangover.

Thanks for the Funky New Year clip. It's...funky. I probably would have voted for it first and not for TGFY, but I don't think it's going to matter too much. As far as the "new man" LYRIC in FNY, I agree with Soda. Maybe they were also trying to make it relate to the new year. New year...new man. Isn't it funny how the word 'funky' can be used to describe something both good and bad? Just hearing the title I would have imagined it to be a positive description but clearly it's not. Lol!

Oh shoot!! I missed the last round. Oh well, I was gonna vote for Funky New Year anyway.

My next vote will be for All Night Long. I love the song and think it totally rocks but I'm only voting for it now because even though they have clearly performed this song in concert in the past I still see it as more of a Joe song than say Life's Been Good, Walk Away, and Funk 49. The three that I mentioned feel more like the Eagles to me since i've seen the guys perform them in concert a few times.

I think Learn To Be Still is a very underrated song. I don't find the lyrics as depressing as Soda because the last verse gives a sense of hope and I also love Don's vocals and the melody.

Please Come Home for Christmas is a gorgeous song and I don't think it should be penalized based on the fact that it is seasonal. That's kinda like saying that all the foods that are associated with Thanksgiving dinner aren't that good because you only eat them once a year.

And Jess, I pretty much agree with everything you said about All Night Long. Even though the Eagles had it in their setlist for a brief time, I consider Life's Been Good an adopted Eagles song since it has been in the band's setlist continuously since about 1979. However, the main reason I think it's time for it to go is because I like the other songs in the game better (with the exception of HITW). I'm actually going to vote earlier than I normally do. Since there doesn't seem to be much change of getting HITW eliminated this round, let's join forces to eliminate All Night Long ...

I cast my vote for All Night Long.

I completely agree with you about LTBS, a song which always helps me when I am stressed. But my objection to PCHFC isn't that it's seasonal. I dislike it because I find it too slow, bland & some of the lyrics just don't strike a chord with me at all, though I have tried, believe me. I particularly don't like the 'I'll be happy, happy, once again' part. I just find that clumsy. I know the song is old but I don't think it suits the band at all.

I can't believe there are votes for Get Over It, which is a wonderful, perfect Henley-Frey song.

It's hard to know what else to vote for here. I pretty much like all the rest of the songs. So......since it wasn't written by one of the guys, even though I love it during the Christmas season, and I love the way Don sings it, it's pretty short and old.

I wish that at least the people who have voted for GOI would tell us why. LTL is the only person who gave a reason. This is the great Henley-Frey partnership in all its glory proving to the world that it still rocked. Each guitarist gets a solo. Henley gets to spit out his acerbic lyrics. What's not to like? As opposed to PCHFC & LWKUA which to put it mildly are probably the two least adventurous tracks of the band's career as well as having been written by other people (I exempt Seven Bridges Road from this). I can only think that the lyrics may touch the wrong nerve with some of you.

That hurts Lou!!! :-(

I must say, I'm very saddened about PCHFC being gone so soon. I know it's a cover and seasonal but it's the flippin' greatest version of that song ever!

This round looks as if it's going to be all over the place.

I also am switching my vote up a bit because of something I read in a comment in one of the previous rounds. One Day At A Time doesn't do much for me tho I appreciate what it's all about for Joe. But I feel these should be Eagles songs and not solo songs and it is an Eagles song. I love all the solo stuff also, but as I've said before, I go to an Eagles show to see Eagles songs. That being said, even tho I LOVE this song as a Joe song....

I must vote for Life's Been Good.

Okay - I can't buy the argument about how One Day At a Time should be considered more of an Eagles song than Life's Been Good. Life's Been Good has been in the setlist for almost every Eagles live show since it was released in 1978. It appears on their Eagles Live album and the F1 DVD. On the other hand, One Day At a Time was only in the Farewell 1 setlist briefly from 2004 - 2005. While it also appears on the F1 DVD, it was not released on Long Road Out of Eden. Joe has indicated that it will be released on his upcoming solo album.

Well I didn't say it was necessarily a logical way of looking at it. :hilarious: Let me try to explain my thinking.

To me, when I hear Life's Been Good, I see Joe performing it way back when. I've heard and seen it so many times done by Joe only. I remember first hearing it on But Seriously Folks and loving it. It will always, always be a Joe song for me no matter how many times I see it performed with the Eagles. It started out a Joe song. Where as One Day At A Time, the first and only time I heard/saw it, was performed by the Eagles with Joe singing lead vocals. That's not to say a year from now after it's on Joe's solo album, without the Eagles backing him up, that I won't feel differently, but for now it's an Eagles song because I've not seen or heard it done any other way.

Does that make any sense at all? Probably not but it's perfectly logical to me. :)

I agree with that. That is exactly how I view the two songs. I'm one of the few people on this board who saw ODAAT & those harmonies just scream 'Eagles' at me.

As far as TGFY my heart said it should stay immune because it's Glenn's only remaining lead vocal in this game (I imagine my sentiments about this would be obvious) but my head said that it just isn't as good as a couple of the other songs. I'm glad I saw it live, though. I never saw GOI.

I also don't hate country music, so that probaby helps. I remember listening to this song over and over past summer, because I couldn't take in enough of Glenn's voice. Not voting yet...

I agree with you on this one, ltl. Love Glenn's voice on it. I will sometimes listen to it over & over as well. I also really like the lyrics. I'm not a fan of real country music, but TGFY has just the right amount of country for me. I'm going to withhold my vote for awhile too.

Glenn's voice is amazing on TGFY. Such passion!

I agree with TBF and FP about Life's Been Good. It may be played a lot at Eagles shows, but IMHO, that doesn't make it an Eagles song. By that definition, you could call Dirty Laundry and Boys of Summer "Eagles songs" too.

IMO, Life's Been Good is not an official Eagles song, but I associate it with the Eagles the most. I believe it is a great song, and needs to be in the game. Life's Been Good, to me, could have been an Eagles song anyway. JMO of course.

But I've just heard more (via YouTube and the time I saw them live) times of being played with the Eagles than solo. I consider it an Eagles song, but I agree it's not an official Eagles song. But IMO it deserves to stick around longer. I'm not disclosing which I want to win. But I'm going to keep trying to save LBG.

Hehe most of the people in the stores I go to all know me and what was funny is that one of my guitar friends was there that works there in Springfield and I didn't know it, he was in the back in an office and I was out front trying out a guitar and I started into LBG and he walked over to me and said "I could tell that was you". Most of the people in here play death metal and punk rock and I knew as soon as I heard that, you were here. It's so funny.

I usually go to Springfield for guitars.... Rock Shop on Jefferson Street. They do all of my complicated repairs and I've bought about 6 or so guitars from them so I'm good friends with the owner. I've brought things in for repair and they don't charge me anything, sometimes just very little. The owner, Todd, is probably the best salesman I've ever worked with. I don't go to Peoria's Guitar Center all that often, maybe twice a year where as I'm in Springfield every couple of months. I mainly go to Springfield for Gibson guitars, and Galesburg for Fender guitars.

Sorry for the derail of the thread everybody - but I wanted to post this little message! :hilarious:

I cast my vote for Love Will Keep Us Alive

As it is known around here, I love TBS. His vocals are flawless and I love hearing him. Now... I do not think LWKUA is all that great of a song. I think it needs to be a bit faster or something. If I recall correctly, I think TBS did it in his solo show, and I liked it better, he changed it up, made it more enjoyable.

It's a close race between LWKUA and TGFY. If it wasn't close, I wouldn't have cast this vote... however, like I mentioned... Glenn sounds SO amazing that I'd love TGFY to stay, even if for only one more round.

Well – I can’t seem to get anyone on board with me to eliminate Hole In the World at this point so I was going to vote for The Girl From Yesterday if my vote would have eliminated it. I agree that it’s a really good song and Glenn’s vocals are absolutely amazing, but I it’s just a bit too country for my tastes. It’s too bad that Love Will Keep Us Alive is going down because it is a better song than several of the songs that remain, IMO. The song has a gorgeous melody and Tim’s vocals are absolutely amazing too. I think I’m gonna have to start lobbying to eliminate One Day At a Time. Although, I also think it’s a really good song, there is no way I think it’s better than Life’s Been Good. No matter how you classify it, Life’s Been Good is in this game and is one of the all-time classic songs in rock and roll. As Austin says, that riff is so catchy and immediately recognizable, plus the lyrics are extremely clever, and the song simply rocks.

I cast my vote for One Day At a Time.

I think LBG should be in the top 6 and stay one more round. To me it's an Eagles song. But I digress. :hilarious: It's got that Eagles guitar sound and have seen the band play it a lot (in videos and in person). It fits in with the Eagles so well. I find that with the current song list, it fits into the top 6. I won't try to convince Soda again (but thanks for helping me out last round -) but I believe LBG is a better "song" than say, LTBS. It's all personal opinion though. And I don't need to describe the opinion thing! ;) Everybody's got one.

But I am sticking to my list and I will say for those wondering, LBG is not my winning pick but it deserves to stay alive for one more round. As far as songs go, it's in the top 6 though. My favorite song of Joe's.

LTBS was written by Henley-Lynch, not Henley-Frey ((despite Frey's comment before the song 'we made it up an hour ago'! No you didn't, Glenn)!

I guess Glenn must have been joking on the HFO DVD and not meaning it literally. Maybe he meant that the band was brand new at playing it.

Re the comments about TGFY being 'too country'; why do you never say that about Take It Easy or Peaceful Easy Feeling? TGFY is in the same mode as those songs. If anything the song is a return to the 'thrilling days of country rock' as Glenn has said. Anyway I'm glad it is still here. Thanks LTL!

I can only speak for myself here, but here's how I hear these songs that you mention in my ears. To me, Take It Easy is country rock but leans more towards a rock sound - I love that sound. I feel the same way about New Kid in Town, even though you didn't mention that one. I brought it up because we had this discussion in our last Survivor game (apologies to Mike  ). Now Peaceful Easy Feeling is country rock but leans more towards a country sound - I love that sound too.

I totally agree. One Day At A Time is just as much of a solo song as LBG. If one should be considered an Eagles song, so should the other. But like you said, to each their own. I'm so used to seeing or hearing Joe play it with the Eagles, it's more of an Eagles song to me. It flat out rocks! So many classic "lines" in that song. When I was in my tribute band I'd change the words up like Joe. I used to have some good ones too! :hilarious:

I also agree about the country rock discussion. I love Country Rock and Classic Rock but pure country just isn't for me. I don't consider the Eagles pure Country. I think they went from Country-Rock to more Classic Rock. My favorite albums are Hotel California, On The Border, One Of These Nights, The Long Run, "Eagles", and Long Road Out of Eden. In that order. I'm not a big fan of the Desperado album (I know, shoot me! :machinegun:). I like a couple songs from that album (Tequila Sunrise and Desperado) but generally speaking it's my least favorite album of the band. I think they were at their most "country" (:D) during that recording time-frame. :)

I see what you're saying. I don't quite know how to explain what I'm thinking here. I have to wonder and I want to ask you Austin... to you, what is the "Eagles guitar sound"? Is it guitar by Joe Walsh? IMO, Joe Walsh changed the whole guitar dynamics when he entered the band. The guitar work till then was the country rock sound but when Joe came in to the picture, it became more rock oriented. The Eagles guitar sound nowadays is Joe Walsh's guitar work. Of course I'm not the guitar expert that you are tho. I'm curious about how you feel about it. Do you like the guitar work more since Joe joined the band and how do you feel about the older stuff?
I will never disagree that LBG is not a great rocking song....it's one of my Walsh faves but I will always maintain it's a Walsh solo song.

As for TGFY discussion...Isn't it funny that I don't feel that way about the song as many others even tho I HATE country music? It's not my favorite but I still appreciate it for what it is. The lyrics are beautiful and the vocals are so gorgeous and touching.

Hell at this point --I really don't know what I like. Everyone is making some very solid arguments for all of these songs so what I started out thinking would be my list, I literally threw in the trash. I actually feel guilty about voting for LBG so early and before ODAAT because I actually like it best between the 2 but I'm sticking with the whole LBG is not an Eagles song.

ODAAT is an Eagles song because it has only ever been played by the Eagles. To date it has not been played as a solo song. It has never been released in any form under the name 'Joe Walsh' and while that may happen, until it does, it is an Eagles song. Life's Been Good, In The City & Guilty Of The Crime, however, were 'Joe Walsh' songs first.

I think it's far too arbitrary to say that a song is 'country' because it has pedal steel guitar. Look at CSNY's Teach Your Children which has a prominent pedal steel part (played by Jerry Garcia). I suppose you would also call that country; I would call it country rock. When I listen to TGFY I barely hear the pedal steel.

To me the Eagles guitar sound is that of guitars "doubled up". I'm pretty much referring to the Felder+Walsh days. On Life's Been Good, it just seems to fit that sound that they have. The older sound with Leadon is a much more twangy, country classic sound. I like both sounds, but when I think of the Eagles guitar tone, my mind goes straight to Felder and Walsh. My favorite lineups of the band are the HC and LR lineup. While I'm not a big "pure country" fan, I did like Leadon's guitar work, but not as much as Walsh's and even Felder's. To me the Eagles guitar sound is one that is layered with several guitars of different kinds. You rarely see the guys have the same kind of guitar onstage. Now here is where I get geeky! If Joe is playing a guitar such as a Gibson with humbucking pickups, the other guy (Felder or Smith) played/plays a Fender usually or something with single coil pickups. It makes it so they can layer their guitars and still have separate guitar tones and cut through the mix. If you have say two humbucker guitars or two single coil guitars, it gets harder to cut through and you lose the space of being your own self. I know from personal experience of my band. We'd do the thing they do/did. If one guy is playing one kind of guitar, the other guy is playing another type of guitar with different pickups.

So the Eagles guitar sound (to me, and this is all just what I hear and like) is a layered guitar sound with each guitar being different from the rest and having it's own unique sound. You add three different kinds of guitars (Frey's too), and you get a wide-bodied full almost stereo guitar sound. Skynyrd for instance, did the same thing with 3 guitars and all of them were different. It makes for a really full sound and gives each guy space to do his own thing and "stand out". But the Eagles guitar sound for me is a layered rock sound with unique guitar tones for each guitarist. Life's Been Good had MANY guitars on it, Joe layered up about 3 guitars and even if I remember right, had Felder play on one of them. I love watching videos of him and Felder playing that solo together and he'd be playing the high octave, and Felder would play the low octave or vice versa. Again, it's all about the layered guitar sound. The original Eagles lineup didn't have it so much, but when Felder came in with that Gibson Les Paul sound, it was way different that Leadon's Fender Telecaster. Where as before both Glenn and Bernie's guitars had single coils and sounded very alike. Felder "fattened up" the sound and made it a thick bluesier tone. Then Walsh came in and rocked it up a LOT as you said, changing the guitar sound completely from country rock to classic rock.

Bet your wishing you didn't ask huh?! :hilarious: I tried to explain it as easily as possible! :D Again, officially LBG is a solo song, but I'm more used to seeing/hearing it done with the Eagles and with the Walsh/Felder or Walsh/Smith duo I just associate it with them more. But that's just me! :D

And for the record, as far as I'm concerned, Teach the Children well is pretty much like PEF - it's country rock that leans towards country and I love it. Another one I'll mention that I put in the same category is Poco's Rose of Cimarron where the dobro is very prominent. I love that too. I actually don't hate country music - I just don't prefer it. There are actually some country songs that I like a lot and The Girl From Yesterday is one of them.

I was struggling to choose which song I would want to eliminate next, so I will vote for Get Over It, in order to save The Girl From Yesterday.

I like Get Over It. I like the message, I love Glenn's sexy, rockin' guitar, I love Don's attitude when he sings it, and I love the fact that this was the song that brought them back... but ultimately, although it's great for what it is, I think they have written much better songs. It doesn't quite stand the test of time as well as others, for me.

The Girl From Yesterday is beautiful. I love country, so I guess that helps, but I just think it's a gorgeous, romantic song... Glenn's vocals are swoonworthy and, like ltl, I love the lyrics. They're sad and real. I'd love to see it stick around a bit longer. (It also helps that I visualise HFO Glenn tilting his head back and bending his knees to sing passionately when I hear this song in my head. :faint:)

Dang it, I don't want to vote for either The Girl from Yesterday or Get Over It! But it's beginning to look like a choice must be made.... :(

I just listened to both. Get Over It rocks harder, but Glenn's vocal is so rich and emotive on TGFY... still haven't decided... this is torture!

I'm afraid I voted to soon. I really didn't think TGFY or GOI would actually be eliminated so soon so I'm afraid I wasted my vote when I could of saved one of these songs. Dang it!! Sorry!

No, no, no!

SAVE THE GIRL FROM YESTERDAY!

C'mon, haven't we all felt heartbreak? Can't you relate personally to these lyrics?

"Or maybe it just hurt so bad, she couldn't cry" and "How someone who had been so close could be so far away" or "

Talking to a memory that's never coming home

She dreams of his returning and the things that he might say"

Again, might I add, Glenn sounds AMAZING! Just listen, take in his vocals... inhale them... so intoxicating! So sweet...

Yes but at this point in my life, I relate a LOT more to Get Over It. Besides, the song just rocks.

For the record, had I held off on my vote to save one of these 2 songs, I would have voted for TGFY to save GOI.

ok, after listening one more time, I've made my decision...

I cast my vote for The Girl from Yesterday.

As much as I adore Glenn's vocal on TGFY, Get Over It is the song that kind of announced "We're the Eagles and we're back!" It was written by both Henley and Frey together - not a song they grabbed off of a solo project and layered Eagles harmonies on. Plus, the lyrics make me laugh no matter how many times I hear the song. Finally, the song just ROCKS. That guitar solo is smokin' and the whole song just pounds so fast and hard... love it!

BTW it should be noted that TGFY and GOI are now tied.

Well – I’d rather be voting to eliminate Hole In the World or One Day At a Time than either Get Over It or The Girl From Yesterday. I hate to do it but it has to be done. So, with sadness …

I cast my vote for The Girl From Yesterday.

In a round that came down to the last minute, the sixth song to leave the island in Non-Studio Album Songs Survivor is The Girl from Yesterday. “Girl from Yesterday”, it's time for you to pack your things, walk out the door, and leave the island. The rest of the songs may return to camp.

It was a very hard choice for me to vote for Get Over It. I love the song and it has one of my favorite lines in it - "I want to find your inner child and kick its little a%&" but TGFY just has some personal meaning in it for me so I felt I had to try to protect it.

That'll teach me to copy someone else's answer in the hope that it was right! Especially as I now think I know what the correct answer is.

EDIT: Checked and my second guess is wrong, too!

Further edit: I reckon this is a sneaky question. If so :fingerwag: Soda

That's right whitcap! And it's not a sneaky question - check out the verb tense in the question - it's plural!

LEARN TO BE STILL is immune.

I vote for Hole In The World

Life's Been Good made it into the top 6! :D I'm VERY happy. It deserves it. Some may not think it's an Eagles song, but I digress! :hilarious: LBG is best song IMO recorded of his. :headbang: From the lyrics to the guitar intro to the dueling solos of Walsh and Felder, it's just great from top-to-bottom. I could make a whole thread on that one and the guitar tone.... There is a reason I play it in every show I do live and that I play it in every video I record. It's my favorite electric guitar intro of all time. That distorted guitar riff is just perfect. Crunchy and thick.

While it probably won't last much longer, I really do think it's a classic song. I prefer to hear it with the Eagles than solo because some of the guys from the band played on the original if I remember correctly. I love the dueling guitars of Walsh & Felder. The Eagles guitar tone is a classic rock tone from 76-present. My favorite lineup is the Hotel California lineup. The Long Run lineup is great too. I am a classic rock junkie though.

To celebrate, I think I'll go put it on off of the Eagles Live CD. :partytime:

Well - ltl and Troub don't play fair. These comments almost made me change my mind about voting off The Girl From Yesterday last round.

But, in the end, I came to my senses and saved Get Over It. I think it may be necessary to do that this round as well. So, for those who still want to save "Get Over It", we need to join together again. If we split the vote between One Day At a Time and Hole In the World, it may not be enough to save GOI. Based on past rounds, it seems as if more people are inclined to vote for One Day At a Time, so ...

SAVE GET OVER IT!

VOTE FOR ONE DAY AT A TIME!!!

Okay, I give up! You ask us to try and explain why we don't like a certain song, and when we do you don't accept it! I'll take it a step further and say that I do not like the melody of TGFY.

At this point I think we're just going to have to chalk it up to personal preference.

I was asking why you all thought the song was 'country' rather than why you didn't like it. If you don't like it that is fine with me, just as I don't like LWKUA.

To my knowledge none of the Eagles played on Life's Been Good. The only tracks any of the band played on on the But Seriously Folks album were At The Station & Second Hand Store (Felder) & Tomorrow (Frey/Henley/Schmit). I assume when you refer to Walsh & Felder's 'duelling guitars' here you are talking about the Eagles Live version.

You mention the intro. Classic, yes, but am I the only one who thinks it is similar to Led Zeppelin's Houses Of The Holy?

Anyway I vote for One Day At A Time.
