lol I think I told him that in a very polite way

He reads his facebook every day and answers to every post in that time he's there. Mostly he writes "thanks" if people don't ask him something. He works through the page from the top and stops after a while. Usually he comes there before noon so I had to make sure I post not too early. Otherwise I would end up on page 2 and he's gone before he reads it. Talking about strategy lol

Meanwhile I wrote him again and he answered lol I have fun doing this... as long as he answers not only with "thanks" lol

I have another concert on my list :) went to The Hooters on Friday. Not really my taste of music but since they were performing just here, round the corner I decided to see them. And I was surprised how good they were. Johnny B., All You Zombies are songs I like. But I didn't know every song, but that was ok. Great singer I must say.

As the singer said they will now perform a song from his favorite song writer, I was shocked in the first moment lol Take a look:

I'm headed off to Nashville Monday morning to see Sir Paul McCartney
at Bridgestone Arena Monday night. I can't wait....I've been a huge
Beatles fan for many years. My wife and I last saw Macca back in
2002 and it was amazing. I'm sure tomorrow night will be too. I'll report
back in a few days....maybe post a few pics, too.

We will be seeing Tim Minchin next March at the Opera House. He is an outrageous singer/pianist/comedian and is touring with a full orchestra for the first time. I never thought I'd see the day my husband would want to see an Australian comedian as he was raised on British comedy. Minchin is very well known in Britain (we saw his interview on Jonathan Ross, which is how we found out about the British orchestral tour, and then lo & behold the Australian tour was announced. It is actuallly funny because he's on in Newcastle after we've left there & Mike was saying he wanted to go back - well he doesn't have to now).

Verna and I "MAY" be taking a little weekend trip down to Van Buren, Arkansas around August 18.

THREE DOG NIGHT is playing there! I think the tickets are $31 for front row. I was really impressed with the short set they played for free out on Fremont St in Las Vegas a couple of years ago. They still wail! But dang it, it is a 4-5 hour drive and we would have to drive through Tulsa...a city with a torn up mixmaster out west of town!

On the bright side, one of the Oklahoma casinos is after Verna and has been sending free room (and cash) offers. The casino is in Roland, OK so it would only be around 10 miles to the concert.

I actually talked hubby into going with me to see one of my favorite bands, Guster. Have any of you heard them? They have very catchy songs and great harmonies! It's a stand up concert, so I'll try to get there early to stand close by the stage-lol. Hubby and I will probably be the most ancient ones there!

On this next trip to Vegas, I've already mentioned that we were planning on seeing Carlos Santana. Well, at one of the outlying casinos that we've been to a couple of times, "Tommy James and the Shandells" are playing! Along with them are "The Rascals". It's tempting to go to that cert!

I also heard that Meatloaf was going to be playing somewhere around here. And on the radio last night, I heard that Gordon Lightfoot was going to be playing soon at a small concert venue here in Wichita.

Really still thinking about that trip to Van Buren in Arkkansas to see Three Dog Night in August too!

I just checked - he's playing up in Aurora, IL (a suburb of Chicago) on October 15. It's a Friday night and I work the next day, but it's out there far enough that I might be able to get the time off. Hubby would be thrilled...(not a fan).

I also got an alert that REO is playing in Effingham, IL on Dec. 3. I've seen them lots of times, the last time being 1996. I think it's due time...

Seems like a good year to catch up on some of the other Legacy Groups of the 60's and 70's. I'll just miss Jefferson Starship out in Vegas by one weekend and have already missed Little River Band out there. The one I didn't mind missing was the (forgot what it's called...great memory...just short) ahhh....TRIBUTE Band doing Fleetwood Mac. I'd rather see the "real thang!"

Canned Heat did a gig out in Vegas I think it was last year. Would love to have caught that one!

I saw Green Day in concert tonight! What an awesome show-they played for three hours and did every one of the songs I love so much.Their singer, Billie Joe Armstrong is quite the showman-he had the audience engaged the entire time! So glad to hear there are other Green Day fans on the Board! It was such a fantastic concert-I have to say, I have never experienced anything like it before. The way the entire audience was participating for three hours just blew my mind-Billie Joe even gave away two of his guitars to audience members, hosed off the folks in the pit, and brought several fans onto the stage to sing along on various songs!!:partytime:

Dreamer, I definitely think you should put Green Day on your bucket list! You will have an experience of a lifetime seeing them live!!:blueblob:

Stars, great to hear you had so much fun. I would like to see them too. Maybe I will get the chance some day.

Last week I went to see Foreigner, the third time this year lol Wow, that was a fantastic night and their best show. Well, at least from what I've seen from them. :) We had first row and were so close we could reach out our arms and touch the stage.
One of the best was we met the boys backstage after the concert :D They were so nice, they welcomed us so warm with a hug and kiss on the cheek *sigh* And I didn't have to ask Mick Jones for a picture, he asked me

EF---LOVE the pics!!! Foreigner was in our area a couple months ago and I tried desperately to get good seats but couldn't. I'm spoiled and only want good seats any more so we didn't go. I will get the chance one of these days. Kelly really is a doll isn't he? I just want to say Lou Gramm who? :hilarious:

I still think that's really cool that Steve is involved in the board like that. We have a similar situation on the Sweet board I belong to where Steve Priest gets on and participates at times also. And the time I got called out on the Sweet board by Eric Carmen, after I called him a one hit wonder! Oops!! :fear:Very cool when they "mingle" with us common fans isn't it?

Very cool EF!

Speaking of Lou Gramm, he's going to be at the Decatur Celebration this Saturday. Unfortunately I won't get to see him because we are going on Sunday. We will be seeing The Georgia Satellites and The Charlie Daniels Band, plus they have scheduled a Rod Stewart Tribute, The Legend of Johnny Cash and a Heart tribute band I want to see called Heartless.

Our Hippiefest is tonight. Looking forward to that!

Hey man, I'm back from Hippiefest and it was far out man! I parted my long straight hair down the middle, put on my most faded pair of bellbottoms and a peasant-style top, some leather sandals and a pair of big hoops and off we went! (Hubby didn't get into the spirit of things and wore a polo shirt and khaki shorts.) :eyebrow:

Anyway, lots of people were dressed in their hippie finest. We saw lots of tye dye, headbands on women and men and did I say lots of tye dye? :hilarious: One guy walked by us toward the front row with a long black wig (I think it was a wig), headband, bellbottoms, vest and a guitar slung onto his back! There were two problems with the crowd. It was too small (only about 200 people in the civic center!) and lots of them were drunk, so there was a little heckling going on, but nothing that caused a problem. The most difficult part for us was trying to leave the civic center after the show. You have to walk up a very curved, graded ramp, and the guy in front of us was so drunk that he kept stopping to regain his footing and yelling unintelligable things to other people. But we eventually got out.

We knew we were seeing Mitch Ryder, Badfinger and Rare Earth but we had no idea what order they would play or how long they would play. Well, Hubby and I assumed Badfinger would play last because they were our favorites. Wrong! They played first. And it's not really Badfinger anymore. It's Badfinger featuring Joey Molland. You think the Eagles had personallity issues? Read about Badfinger in Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Badfinger). But none of that was evident here. After all this was Hippiefest! Peace and Love! Badfinger did four songs:

Come And Get It
Baby Blue
Day After Day
No Matter What (Here's a video from a Hippiefest in Georgia last year)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O61KDKYj6PM

Even though they only played for 15 minutes, these were my favorite songs from the show.

Next up - Mitch Ryder. He did about four songs too, including

Jenny Take A Ride
Sock It To Me Baby
Devil With A Blue Dress

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FOLAqoRImI

Last was Rare Earth and they were clearly the headliner, playing for about an hour. Here are some of the songs I remember from last night:

Born To Wander
Papa Was A Rolling Stone
Tobacco Road
I Just Want To Celebrate

and a 15 minute version of this one. The drummer still has an amazing voice!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANrkVF_FkEI

I've said this before- listening to an original artist do a song you heard on the radio years ago is one of my favorite things! Granted, Joey Molland was not the original lead singer for Badfinger, but the other two acts were the original!

Too bad the turnout was so low. We probably won't have Hippiefest here again. :-(

I have been very fortunate to see many bands that I love during my life. However, there is one band I WISH I had seen, but never had the opportunity-that band is the Beatles! When they were touring, I was a pre-teen, and my mom would never let me go see them. If I could go back in time and see one band, it would certainly be the Beatles!

Yeah! With the help of a burly Harley looking guy at the show tonight, my niece and I got ushered down by the front of the stage for the Jimmy Wayne concert.

He did a shortened set since he was the opening act, and he seemed uncomfortable in a walking cast due to a freshly broken ankle -but it was a terrific show nonetheless. He has such an amazing voice!

I got to meet him for a minute after the show and told him that I had volunteered to work with his organization. He's so passionate about it his eyes lit up when I said it He took my hands and held them for a minute, asked me my name and repeated it back to me a few times like he was committing it to memory. Very sweet. Wish I could have had a chance to talk to him but the line was sooo long behind me.

During the show, he took my camera from me and took a picture of himself with it! He either have hit the off button coz it's not on the disc!! :brickwall: By the end of the show my battery light was coming on-so that may have been the problem. Anyway, it would have been a cute pix-but it's nowhere to be found.

Well, it was an interesting show. Turns out it was a tribute to Elvis and a benefit for a woman named Myrna Smith who has suffered a stroke. The were only about 200 people in the audience, and the vast majority of them were in their 70s. Walkers and canes abounded.

There were all sorts of Elvis' old compadres playing in the band on stage. I felt like a real poser because I didn't know who any of the musicians were, yet it was obvious from the Elvis fans' reactions that these guys were really epic so I pretended I recognized them, too. The names that I remember: Reggie Young, "Cowboy" Jack Clement, and The Holliday sisters. A man named D.J. Fontana was also there, but he didn't play - just told some funny stories about "the old days" when he was a drummer for the likes of Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis, as well as Elvis of course. He was a hoot. Another man named James Burton came onstage briefly and said a few words, but didn't play either. There were several other "Friends of Elvis" from Sun Studios in the audience as well. There were lots of hugs onstage as apparently some of these people hadn't seen each other, much less played together on stage, for 20 years or so.

The two folks I was there to see were the least Elvis-y of the group! Billy Swan was first up and performed a few songs which I didn't recognize, except for "I Can Help" which he said Elvis had covered at one point. He was outta there like flash after the show, so I didn't get a chance to get him to sign my Meisner, Swan, and Rich CD. I hate to say it, but he's looking really old. If I were to guess his age, I'd say mid-70s at least, but it turns out he's my parent's age: 68.

Next out was "Cowboy" Jack Clement. The 79-year-old gave a "grumpy but loveable grandpa" vibe as he was onstage, but his voice sounds terrific - just like a combination of Johnny Cash and George Jones (two people he wrote for). I didn't know any of the songs he performed either, but they were catchy. A lot of them were about girls breaking up with him like "Gone Girl" and "Just a Girl I Used to Know." One really cracked me up - it was called "Flushed from the Bathroom of Your Heart," a song he'd written which Johnny Cash recorded on his At Folsom Prison album. Clement proudly declared that every time there was a "Worst Country Songs Ever" list compiled, "Flushed" was always on it!

Billy Burnette's parents, musicians Dorsey and Alberta, knew Elvis and that was his connection. Billy was the "youngster" at 57. He performed some Elvis covers as well as a song his daddy sold to Rick Nelson - "It's Late," I song I actually knew. He said his father bought a "Map to the Stars' Homes", found Rick Nelson's house on it, and literally waited on Nelson's doorstep until Nelson drove up! When Nelson got out of his car, he approached him and asked him to listen to the song. He did, and the rest is history (ah, more innocent times - nowadays that kind of thing would get you arrested).

Burnette also did "Don't Stop" to my delight, although he was apologetic about it! "Well, a while ago I was in the rock band Fleetwood Mac and someone asked me to do this song tonight, so I'm doing it even though I'm not sure it belongs here..." I just inwardly thanked the person who asked him to do it! Most of the elderly audience members seemed confused about the Fleetwood Mac reference, but "Don't Stop" is so irresistible that I don't think anyone minded.

It was cool in the sense that there was so much history on stage, but there were some weird elements, too. For instance, the emcee was this Dutch guy who didn't know what the heck he was doing. He forgot to introduce Reggie Young, rambled on and on about stuff nobody cared about but him while the musicians stood around and waited to play (example: "Let me tell you about the time I met Priscilla Presley..."), and repeated himself to a ridiculous extent. After we would clap, he would say "Come on, let's give so-and-so a hand!" He did this again and again, after every song. It was ridiculous and the musicians looked embarrassed.

There was also an Austrian singer who sounded like Elvis but looked like Simon LeBon of Duran Duran. He performed several famous Elvis songs, and though he was a bit silly sometimes, at least he engaged the audience by trying to get us to clap, sing along, etc. (You can't expect the old-timers to do that.) I knew two of the Elvis songs he did - "Suspicious Minds" and "Johnny B. Goode." The other songs he did that I've never heard before were "Don't Cry Daddy" and "The Wonder of You."

The old lady in front of me didn't like the Austrian guy and heckled him. She must have been at least mid-70s, but she wasn't exactly the "sweet grandma" type! In the small room where everything echoed, she'd call out stuff like "No more jokes!" when he was trying to be funny in between songs and "Those aren't the words!" when he made a lyric flub. I was cringing. She laid off as the night progressed, thankfully.

For the big finish, everybody came back out and did "That's All Right, Mama" - although the Dutch MC tried to guilt them into doing some other song called "Sweet Inspiration" (?) for Myrna (poor thing, I hope she gets well - from what they were saying, she's in bad shape). The Dutch guy was being so annoying. I mean, I don't mind that he asked them to do the song, but when Reggie Young answered "We're gonna do 'That's All Right Mama' for the finale" the Dutch guy turned to the audience and yelled "Clap so they'll play 'Sweet Inspiration'!" They just ignored him and went into "That's All Right Mama" lol.

Afterwards, I hovered near the stage and waited for Billy Burnette to finish talking to his Memphis relatives - he's from here - while the other folks went over to talk to the likes of Reggie Young and "Cowboy" Clement (as I said before, Swan made himself scarce). Once the relatives dispersed, I stepped up and asked him to sign my Behind the Mask CD, the first Fleetwood Mac album on which he appears. Even as I asked him, I pulled the CD booklet and a pen out of my purse - I was prepared! He looked really surprised, then smiled at me and said "Sure!" He asked me my name, shook my hand, and wrote "Dear Nancy, Keep on Rockin' - Billy Burnette." Nice!

The concert was not what I expected - that's for sure! - but I'm still glad I went. I also now have a new prize for my memorabilia collection!

Side note: I actually got in free! I got a little lost, so I arrived at 8:10 instead of 8:00 when the show started. I went to the ticket window but no one was there. I knocked on the door and security let me in to the foyer. "Where can I buy a ticket?" I asked. "Oh, the guy who works the ticket booth will be back soon, I'm sure - don't know where he is right now..." everyone - security, the people at the concession stands - started looking around to see if they can find him. Nobody can. After about five minutes, we could hear that the show was starting - still, no ticket guy. After several more minutes of waiting, one of the security guys finally says, "Just come in with me - you can be my special guest tonight" and escorted me into the theater, all the way to an empty seat in the fifth row, before going back to his post. Very cool!

I saw a bit of an Elvis impersonators competition on TV which was also on in Memphis.

I have never understood why so many of these people do the 'jumpsuit' years (including Glenn....) maybe because there was nobody like young, hot, raw, Elvis. I don't regard myself as a real fan but I get so bored with the finger pointing and the 'thangyouveramuch' stuff. There was more to him than that. He ended up a parody of himself. Why does he have to be remembered that way?

Brooke

I agree, Fp. I prefer to remember him in his younger days when he was so gorgeous.

I guess the jumpsuit is a more recognizable image to caricature. Back in the Elvis days, Elvis dressed pretty normally, and Elvis impersonators probably feel like they should do more than put on jeans and a button-down shirt!

I do wish more would imitate the all-leather outfit from the late 60s special though...

One thing I didn't mention before was that Elvis' second cousin is some kind of Elvis impersonator himself! He came out for a moment to thank everyone as a representative of the Presley family, and he had his hair styled like Elvis and a lot of stage make up on - so much so that the powder looked caked on his face. Kind of creepy.

I went to the Mile High Music Festival with my brother today. It was so awesome! We had a great time, and I got the chance to hear bands that I've never heard before. My top favorite bands that played were Donavan Frankenreiter, Houses, and Steve Miller Band. Jack Johnson was also pretty good. Thanks Koala and PM! I really did have such a wonderful time-it was the kind of concert I never wanted to end! Of course, that has happened with other performers too! I remember the last time I saw the Eagles (in Scotland), when "Desperado" started, I became quite emotional, knowing it was the last song, and not knowing when I would see them again!
PM-glad you enjoyed your concert too. I know what you mean about the heat-at the Philadelphia Folk Festival, I could feel the sweat just pouring off me. I think I lost a few pounds that day!

Yeah, there were a couple of times at the Celebration when we were standing in the sun listening to a band and we had to go find some shade before I passed out! The heat has never affected me like that - it was irritating, but sort of scary too.

At one point we were standing about 200 feet from the Christian stage listening to a young woman (Francesca Battistelli) sing who was 8 months pregnant. She caught our attention because she had such a beautiful voice. Anyway, she was sitting down on the drummer's stage because she was feeling ill because of the heat, but she was still singing. We turned to our left just in time to see a teenage girl pass out and fall onto the street! It looked like she was with her mother and another girl, who were aiding her. Within 1 minute an golf cart-like vehicle was there with ETM's aboard. After keeping her down for about 10 minutes they loaded her onto a stretcher and off she went into an ambulance parked not too far away.

I enjoy going to the Celebration every year. I hope it's never that hot again!

SANTANA

Great concert at "The Joint" in the Hard Rock Cafe.

Will get my videos processed and if they turn out, I'll post them. The Joint is about as good as it gets acoustically....especially for Carlos. We could literally feel the seats buzzing from the bass and drums...and Carlos has three sets of drums going full bore the entire concert...But that's Latino music and it is the style Carlos has played since I first heard him back in '68 or something like that.

I did take a few pictures too. Have NO IDEA whether any of them turned out. We were back in the back so I moved a few times to the large video monitors for some of the recording. I don't think I have the software to process them on my notebook computer. I'll try to grab some stills off the camera today though and get them posted.

Carlos is getting married! He announced it during the concert and his fiance came out and set in on drums for one song. The lady can get completely down on the skins! I'm not sure what Nationality she is. Very pretty and I think maybe from either Africa or Jamaica. No matter....he should be able to save some money by letting her tour with him on drums!

Time has run out on my Broadband connection this morning. I'll get the pictures processed if I can and upload them when I log back in later today.

Unfortunately, only one picture turned out and one of the videos. When the battery is running low, my camera just doesn't have the juice to capture either full video or full audio. But "Black Magic Woman" did turn out pretty good...about 8 minutes of it! And this stage shot turned out pretty good too.

I'll have to wait until I get home to convert the video. It is a AVI and a MONSTER in size. I think I used "FLASH" before to get a good upload that would play and that didn't take up half of a server <LOL> I got it converted to WMV with a SubTitle at the beginning and it sounds good, but way too large to upload in this format. I will have to wait until I get home to shrink it and put it into FLASH format. Wish I had that HTML5 conversion. May go out and look for it.

Hey Lou--although I've never seen them, Gaslight Anthem is from New Brunswick, NJ which is only about a half hour from where I live. They began as a NJ punk band, but then embraced elements of the 'Jersey shore sound' as lead singer Brian Fallon incorporated his fondness for a certain artist known as The Boss. :-D Springsteen also recently said in an interview that Gaslight Anthem is one of his favorite current artists. These facts made me realize that I probably should have made it a point to have seen GA before now. I just went on their website, and other than a few more US dates that I cannot make, they will be in Europe and Australia for months and months. Oh well, there's always next summer, I guess...

On another note, I'm going out on a limb, and want to make you (Lou, and any other UK'ers) a concert recommendation. I noticed that in October, one of my favorite bands of all time, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, will be playing several dates in the UK. I've read that they have always been very well received in the UK, and have developed quite a following there as well as in other parts of Europe. Anyway, Southside and many of his bandmates played along with the likes of Bruce and many of his bandmates especially in the early days (but even still currently), together becoming synonymous with the Jersey shore sound. The Asbury Jukes are a horn-based rock, blues, and blue-eyed soul band...and Lou, I know you will LOVE Southside Johnny's pure but at times raspy vocals (reminiscent of an Eagle we all know and love!) If you can, check out his version of "Hearts of Stone" or "The Fever" and you'll see what I mean. Other standbys include "Talk to Me," "Trapped Again," "Walk Away Rene," and "Vertigo." (I'm sorry, I don't know how to embed You-Tube.) Their second-to-last album, Grapefruit Moon, was actually a 20-pc. Big Band Jazz album of Tom Waits covers, so their music spans a lot of what we love in the other musicians we love. Take my word and go see them...you will not be disappointed!:headbang:

I am so excited about seeing them. Great music, some really poetic lyrics - and Brian's a hottie!

Thanks again! I always love being introduced to new music.

Ooh, that was a nice performance!! And a huge crowd! Bruce released a 2-DVD set in June called London Calling--Live in Hyde Park. It features the 3 hours of Bruce's concert, including one song that Brian joins him on ('No Surrender'). Unfortunately, it doesn't show any of the rest of Gaslight Anthem's gig.

OK, after 2000 posts, I am going to try to post a video for the first time. All for the sake of Lou and her fellow UK'ers, so they don't lose the opportunity to see my man Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes this October.

http://youtu.be/f3Hqo6mMQ20

Ooh, I think it worked! From the looks of SSJ and the various Jukes in attendance, I'm guessing this vid of Talk to Me is from the early 80's. I chose it because I wanted y'all to hear what the "Jersey shore sound" really is...those horns behind the guitars. And that voice...:singer::smitten:

I'm going to try to check out SSJ's last Jersey show (before he crosses the Pond) this coming Friday. The only problem with that is we also have tickets to see JD Souther this Saturday. And the only problem with that is my dreamy concert schedule doesn't really allow me enough time to do my day job justice (considering I work Thurs/Fri/Sat, usually fairly late into the evenings.) Oh well, what's a few files to write up and phone calls to make when blue-eyed soul and California rock are calling??

ETA: After checking out the hidden text under the YouTube, the concert shown was from 1985 in Germany. (Not a bad guess above, if I do say so myself.)

eaglesvet
09-21-2010, 03:26 AM
Now I found two early ones from the Cleveland Agora (Cleveland Rocks!) from 1978, featuring Southside and the Jukes, plus a very boyishly handsome Springsteen...I'm about ready to :faint:

The first one is one of SSJ's signature songs, I Don't Want to Go Home, written by Miami Steve Van Zandt-- who was a Juke in his early career. All of the Jersey shore bands used to trade musicians around over the years. Lou, Southside will play this song at every concert.

http://youtu.be/fXB_0wvLUm8

And, finally for those of you with 8 1/2 minutes of staying power, you will not be disappointed! Same show, same artists (in fact, you can see Miami Steve in his white shirt, black vest and black bandanna throughout the vid...keep your eyes open.) Bruce wrote the song The Fever and gave it up for SSJ, and it's said that Johnny built his career on this performance of it. He overshadows even Bruce (although I still cannot get over the Boss cuteness factor...). You can also find Clarence Clemons dressed all in khaki, including his Panama hat, lending his low voice to the mix.

Oh, I guess I was so passionate about him I forgot to mention his passion! I'm glad you picked up on that :hilarious:! He bills his band as the "World's Best Bar Band"--the quintessential party band-- even though they have 28 albums out! It's too bad they never gained national attention here in the US; always just a notch under the radar in that regard. Definitely would get radio airplay in the NYC/NY metropolitan area, and probably other Bruce-friendly markets back in the day. But now, it's just the US and European tours to support the albums-- even I would rarely hear one of their songs on the radio anymore, unfortunately.

I saw Supertramp tonight live in London, and it was SENSATIONAL! I wrote this in an email to one of my friends who is a fan of theirs, so I'll post it here as a sort of mini-review:

Well, I'm home - a little sleepy and hoarse - but totally on a high! It was an INCREDIBLE show. No support act, no interval, just two hours of solid music. The tour is called "70-10", so they played all of the songs you'd expect from their back catalogue; Breakfast In America, Rudy, Give A Little Bit, From Now On, Crime Of The Century (this was their last song), It's Raining Again, Take The Long Way Home, The Logical Song, Goodbye Stranger...

Rick Davies was on top form - his piano playing was amazing to watch close-up on the screen, and his voice is as fantastic as ever. I knew they were going to be good, but they were better than I could have imagined. Roger Hodgson isn't touring with them, but Jesse Siebenburg (son of their drummer, Bob Siebenburg) is outstanding - his voice is very similar to Roger's and he sings songs like Dreamer and Give A Little Bit flawlessly.

John Helliwell, the saxophonist, was front and centre for most of the concert, and he was pretty charismatic and got the audience going. I've never seen anyone play "air piano" as enthusiastically (and accurately!) as he does.

They also played Downstream, which was really beautiful. They had a video screen behind them with images of a lake, which was calming and obviously fitted the song. The screen was used to great effect during Rudy, when it basically took you on a high-speed, black and white train ride. The camera was zooming down the tracks and around bends, and it was really cool with the music pounding through your body. You really felt like you were hurtling along through the countryside!

The encore was comprised of School, Dreamer, and Crime Of The Century. The actual playing just blew me away. Some songs seemed to go on forever - imagine complete, over the top, exquisite jamming! - and I loved every minute of it. I was just in awe of the way those guys played. It was cool that the piano, drums and sax basically dominated the show, too - the electric guitar only took centre stage a couple of times, which I guess is quite unusual in a rock band!

I really hope other people get the chance to see them, because you will be completely blown away. :inlove:

I've been to a few in my life. I've seen the Eagles in Chicago (the best one I've ever been to), Aerosmith in Peoria, Def Leppard in Peoria, AC/DC in Chicago, Tesla in Peoria, Cheap Trick in Peoria, REO Speedwagon in Springfield, Lynyrd Skynyrd in Peoria, .38 Special in both Peoria and Springfield, and Styx in Springfield. I still want to see the Rolling Stones in concert, they are my 2nd favorite band (after you-know-who! :D).

The most recent one I was at was in March in Springfield, IL at the convention center to see REO Speedwagon, Styx, and .38 Special and the best part is that I was front row, my first time being front row and now I think I'm ruined for other seats! :hilarious: It was a great show. I went to see .38 and REO as I am not a big Styx fan but I have to say I was really surprised. They rocked out and put on a great show. Didn't do much of the broadway Dennis DeYoung songs, and instead rocked out and I thought their sound was better than REO's actually, which was a surprise to me. REO was great though and .38 Special was great. I had seen them before with Skynyrd in Peoria.

Isn't Styx wonderful? How did you like Lawrence Gowan's voice? And that spinning keyboard of his is just fun to watch him play.

Here is the thread of my review for them when I went and saw them last year with Kansas in South Bend, if you're interested in reading it. I recently tried to get decent seats in Merrillville IN a couple weeks ago for them again but I'm a bit spoiled and couldn't pull up a seat that satisfied me.

Yes he played the 2nd guitar solo on Dirty Laundry. Joe Walsh played the 1st guitar solo. He's a great player (Steve). In fact Joe uses Steve's signature model guitar on stage now on a song or two.

Yes, he the best guitar player I've ever seen live. And played on almost 1000 albums. The Eagles have to share the #1 of my all time favorite bands with Toto and him :) I didn't know that Michael Jackson's Human Nature is actually a Toto song with Michael sang on it LOL Almost 50 % of Thriller is all Toto. I will go at least 3 times to see Toto next year and now I'm waiting for more Luke gigs in 2011.

As promised some photos from the VIP experience:

Ok, I'm there almost every day not just to talk to him but find a lot of new friends which I met at the show. Sometimes we are just on this page to talk to each other without noticing that we are on Luke's page LOL He does not mind at all. He knows us meanwhile and laughs about us. What I like about him is that he is a normal guy, humble, nice and totally dirty minded which I really like LOL

I guess Troub knows what I'm talking about when I mention the song 68 LMAO Troub, I don't know where you were standing but did you see the little brontosaurus on stage? There's a special story about him :)

He's got a boyishness about him that is really endearing. I love the fact that he is so down to earth. No bullsh*t, and he wears his heart on his sleeve. Great guy, and a fantastic show.

Yes, he talks alot about his private life. He's going through a very hard time... his mom died this summer, then the divorce and at the top he has another boy coming in January.
He changed his life, lives healthy, stopped smoking and boozing, trying to be the best he could be but then his whole life fell apart. I feel sorry for him. When you see him in interviews talking about his life you just want to give him a big hug to comfort him.
As for the brontosaurus... it's a gift from our fan group page on facebook. We are only 20 people there, only those who have the same sense of humor. We "met" on Luke's page and then started to put up our own page to share concert experiences, for discussions and making plans for shows. It's like a forum in some way. Luke found out about this page and sent us a request, he wanted to join us LOL We first accepted him, then realized we can't talk there anymore like we used to talk, so we decided to kick him out LOL Later we told him we accidently deleted him and he said: "I would delete me too, hahaha"
The brontosaurus... he once tweeted on twitter: My p***s is like a brontosaurus neck LOL Alot of people commented on this as you can imagine and he had great fun. So one of us who went to his first show this month brought him this bronty, put our group name on it and since then Bronty is on stage every night... he just loves him LOL

Last spring, I had the pleasure of seeing Esperanza Spalding-- last night's Grammy winner for Best New Artist-- at the Prudential Center in Newark, an awesome concert venue. My 11-yr-old son had actually won the tickets at a Cub Scout event there, and since sophisticated jazz events are really not to his liking, he graciously gave the pair to me. A friend and I enjoyed a lovely evening watching this relative unknown jazz bass player/singer (well, unknown to us, and I'm sure to others at the time.) Esperanza was the opener to another more famous jazz crooner, Cassandra Wilson. Little did I realize I was seeing the future of music...as I literally jumped out of my seat on the couch last night when Esperanza was announced as the winner of the Grammy over teen-dream Justin Bieber! Way to go!

Well it looks like I have a concert coming up I will be going to. I wanted to go see Jackson Browne but it looks like that will be when I am in Florida visiting my grandma/stepgrandpa. :(

But it looks as if I will be going to see Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top in Peoria in late May!!! I have always wanted to see ZZ Top. Lynyrd Skynyrd will be good too. It's not the same as their original band but I go to concerts for entertainment and the truth is - they still play those songs spot on and play them like the originals. I don't buy their new albums but I love to hear their old songs and so I will enjoy Skynyrd too.

It's a co-headline concert on May 26th at 7PM. Tickets go on sale this Friday. We are going to try to get Front Row Tickets!!!! If we do, I'm going to take my pickguard off of "Ruby" (my #1 guitar) and get it signed by both Billy Gibbons and the guy who is the original member in Skynyrd (the only original member left) who plays Les Pauls, Gary Rossington!!!!

I'm very excited about this. I saw Skynyrd back in '07 in Peoria. I have never seen ZZ Top! I can't wait!!!!!!

We went to see Tim Minchin at the Opera House with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. He is a talented pianist/comedian/singer-songwriter but I think most of his material would be a bit over the top for most people here. This is one of his milder songs which he played last night, Rock'n'Roll Nerd:

You guys aren't going to believe this but it's actually looking as if I might not be going to see The Cars next month for several reasons. First, the concert is on a Wednesday night and hubby is having trouble getting time off, no one else wants to go AND it looks like that is the week my son will be moving back home from college for the summer and we will need to do that. I'm just not one to take off on my own to do it either, add to the fact that my hubby would have a cow worrying if I did. Now, if Benjamin was still with them, I would definitely be doing it alone, even if I had to walk all the way there. It was gonna be a bittersweet experience anyways seeing them without my beloved Benjamin but I was really wanting to do so. It may still happen, but right now, isn't looking to promising. Will have to settle for the new album that comes out the week before the concert and hope they add some more dates in the area-preferably on a weekend or a whole lot closer.

Real life sure gets in the way of the fun stuff a lot!!

I'm sorry too, Willie. Hopefully if will work out for you.

I know what you mean though. It's really hard for me to go to concerts during the week. As far as I usually have to travel it means taking at least a day and a half off work. Plus the expense of staying over and food.

Why can't all concerts be on Saturday night?

I've got a ticket to the Crosby/Nash concert down in Oklahoma this coming weekend. It'll be interesting to see what kind of crowd they draw to the Casino down there.

MikeA
04-11-2011, 05:36 PM
The BAD thing about this concert and the only Reservation (no pun intended) that I have about it is that it is at one of the Native American Casinos down in Oklahoma. Figure the concert may last 2 hours. I'll have to be there at least an hour early to wait in line to get it to the first-come-first-serve venue. The only seating reservations are the first 10 rows and those are available ONLY to Tribal members! The $91.00 VIP tickets are for non-tribal ticket buyers and you get into the 10th to 20th rows or something like that.

So, for the general admission...you KNOW you are not going to get good seats for your $41.00 but you are not going to get good seats for your $91.00 either!

I can deal with that though. A good pair of binoculars will bring the duo into my lap!

I honestly was struggling with my own emotions when it came to getting that ticket. I "like" Crosby and I "like" Nash...but I'm not obsessed with them. It's only because it is on a Saturday night and only 60 miles away that I talked myself into going. It is hard for me to imagine them without Stills or Young....especially Stills.

I got on a rant here below on the conditions in Oklahoma Casinos so skip it. I should have erased it I guess, but every once in a while, I have to blow off steam.

No, what I don't like about it is that because it is at a Casino, my wife is going to want to go. She cares ZIP-ZERO-NADA about Crosby and Nash yet she'll want to go to the Casino. And she will NOT be ready to leave when the Cert is over! So I'll be stuck watching idiots pay $.50 a hand to bet $5.00 on each hand of blackjack they play! That's not gambling. That's making contributions to the Tribal Treasury! I absolutely REFUSE to gamble in Oklahoma!

Look, I know Jess deals Blackjack at a Native American Casino in Oklahoma and I'm tickled pink that she has a good job there! I don't even blame the Native Americans for the conditions of the Casinos in Oklahoma. Mostly it is the GREED of the State Government. It is very fortunate for them that most people do not have my attitude about that larceny at the Blackjack tables. Their tables are usually full so my informal boycott is producing no results that diminish their coffers <LOL>.

That Table Ante at Blackjack rates right up there with the Casinos in Las Vegas changing the payout on Blackjacks from 3:2 to 6:5. Some of them even ADVERTISED it as a GOOD THING <LOL> And people BOUGHT IT! Heck yeah! 6:5 is more that 3:2 right? I mean who wouldn't rather get a $6.50 return on a $5 bet rather than getting a $7.50 return on that same $5 bet! How many do think realize that that reduces the expected return on Blackjack for the player by 2.5%? For that matter, how many do you think might realize the significance of that little piece of elementary mathematics? Blackjack played using basic strategy, will see the player losing ONLY .4% over the long haul. 2.5% is HUGE!

But on a $5 bet with a $.50 ante....what do you think the loss is on that...and it is NOT an EXPECTED LOSS. It is a SURE THING! That is an additional 10% guaranteed LOSS! Even if you push or tie the hand you STILL LOSE that $.50. And still people play it.

It has been a Year years since I was at a casino in Oklahoma and that was because we stopped at a hotel on the way down to my Brother's Funeral and the casino was the only place around to get anything to eat.

Purchased Eddie Money tickets over the weekend for May 12th. Hubby had bought me and a friend tickets back in the mid 80s because he had to work. So this is my 2nd time seeing him and his 1st.

Still trying to work something out for The Cars yet. Still isn't looking to promising for that week but I wont give up hope just yet!

I'm proud to call Alison a native of Central Illinois. She was born in Decatur, IL (approx. 1 1/2 hours from me) and was raised in Champaign, IL (1/2 hour from me). Unfortunately I have never seen her perform live.

There are some bands I dislike though. Rush and Pink Floyd I'm not a fan of.

Thanks for the good wishes on the Neil Young concert, everyone! It was a fantastic show!

Neil was solo, and played several different instruments, including acoustic and electric guitars, harmonica, keyboards and pump organ. He played several songs from his latest album, Le Noise, and also dipped into his back catalog. Being a fan of Neil's since the seventies, I was so excited to hear such songs as "After the Goldrush", "I Believe in You", "Cortez the Killer", and "Tell Me Why". For this tour, Neil has been doing the same setlist every night, so when people yelled out for songs, he just ignored them. He didn't talk too much during the concert, letting the songs speak for themselves.

Before the concert, hubby and I met up with some other fans at a near by pub. I have been on an online Neil internet group for nine years now, and it was so much fun to put faces to names, much like meeting other Eagles fans from the Border!

So it was a great night, and as always, I left wanting to hear more Neil!:headbang::guitar:

Hehe you all know how much I love my over the top rock shows (we've discussed it in another thread about stage effects!) I'm not a "huge" KISS fan but I've always wanted to go to one of their shows just for the experience and entertainment. Their pyrotechnics, confetti, stage antics, suits/makeup, and effects are SO cool. But I do agree their music isn't the best in the world, but I do like Rock And Roll All Nite, Detroit Rock City, and Love Gun.

What can I say - I just love high energy over-the-top rock shows. It's just my thing. It's why I like AC/DC, Aerosmith, etc so much although their music is a lot better than KISS. But KISS is the king of the rock show and focusing more on just entertainment through everything (Stage effects, Makeup, Pyro, etc). They are more entertainers than musicians. It's kind of like a show with music. LOL!

Yeah I don't consider them a real strong "musical" band or that they are great musicians or songwriters, but they've always been focuses on the live show and putting on the best entertainment they can and giving people their money's worth. But do I put them in the same category musically as AC/DC, Zep, Aerosmith, etc? No.

In my opinion NONE of those bands you mention are in the same category with Led Zeppelin.

Well that's fine. But I like hard rock n' roll and that's what I like. I consider Guns n Roses, AC/DC, Aerosmith, late Stones (Mick Taylor era) etc to be the same kind of music as Led Zeppelin and in the same category of greatness. But I'm very picky about Zep's music. I like their hard rock music and can't stand their folkier stuff. As you know I'm not a country/bluegrass/folk music fan. Zep IV is probably the only Zep album I really like. I also like 80s stuff like Def Leppard, Ratt, Motley Crue, etc.

It makes me wonder at times how I got into a band like the Eagles that are nowhere near that heavy, but everyone knows my story by know. But I'm a hard rock fan to the highest level. I can even get into some of the early metal like Ozzy solo (I can't stand Black Sabbath though), and some of the 80s stuff. My tastes stop after the 80s. I really haven't heard anything past that time that I can say I really like that much.. 70s/80s is my stuff. Mid-to-late 70s is my favorite. Love the power ballad bands/melodic rock bands too like REO Speedwagon, Journey, etc. I love all of that stuff.

Once a rocker/metalhead always a rocker/metalhead I guess. I just love that over the top high energy rock n roll from the 70s/80s. I love those loud distorted guitars, high pitched vocals, and raunchy lyrics/stage props! But I cannot stand new music like death metal, screamo, rap, hip/hop, pop (Bieber, Gaga, Jonas Bros, etc), modern rock, indie, etc. All of those bands/artists SUCK! I'm into old school classic and hard rock music. Hence why with the Eagles I prefer HC and TLR Eagles albums over any of their country rock albums. I'm just into that rock music stuff. If you want a slow song, listen to Journey's "Lights" or something. Something that still "rocks".

OK, but I will just say that if you don't like Zep's folkier material then you are missing a great deal of why they were a great band. But we've had this discussion about why you also don't like the Desperado album.

You are a bit like my husband who also prefers what he calls 'noise'. The number of ballads he likes can be counted on one hand. I on the other hand will listen to bands who are able to produce both high energy rock & ballads. I cannot listen to someone who is all one and not the other.

I like "power" ballads which are ballads with electric guitars in them! :hilarious:

I have a date with Eddie Money tonight---I'm taking my husband along also. :heybaby:

I hope everything goes off without a hitch. Hubby walked out to the garage today to go to work and found a puddle of brake fluid under his truck so back inside to take my car. Daughter works tonight and will need my car to go so really hoping son has nothing going on tonight so we can take his car. Either that, or Eddie will have to come pick me up before the concert!! :hilarious:

You guys will be so proud of me---I actually kept track of the setlist!!! YAY!!! :D Ok--it might not be in the exact order because I would forget to write it down but then I would have to backtrack.

Let me start by saying Eddie Money was just as awesome last night as he was 25 years ago when I saw him!!! The venue was a very small, general admission setting called Club Fever in downtown South Bend. The venue has tables all away around the floor on the first and second story and then several rows of seats on the floor. Even tho we were about 40 or 50th in line, we got right up front on the floor. He came on around 7:30 and played for a little over an hour and a half. Simple band of 1 guitarist, 1 bassist, 1 keyboardist and a drummer and Eddie playing harmonica and sax on some of the songs. He encouraged everyone to sing along and get on their feet and come up by the stage and dance. He really believed in audience participation. Seemed genuinely pleased that everyone knew all the words to the songs.

Here's the setlist:

Baby Hold On
Wanna Be A Rock N Roll Star
You've Really Got A Hold Of Me
No Control
We Should Be Sleeping
Maureen
Maybe I'm A Fool
Walk On Water
One More Soldier Coming Home (new song-proceeds go to fallen veteran families)
Endless Nights
Think I'm In Love
I Wanna Go Back
Two Tickets To Paradise
Take Me Home Tonight
Call On Me
Gimme Some Water

Encore:
Shakin'
My Friends

He stayed after the show and signed special t-shirts for the Fallen Veteran Family Fund and a children's charity. We didn't stick around because he was taking his time.

For a grand total of $57.00 for 2 tickets (face value of $20.00 each), we definitely got our MONEY's worth.

Got a few pictures with my lousy camera phone.
