Not sure if this will make sense to anyone but me. There are songs on every album (EXCEPT TLR) that I skip at least 90% of the time. So as I rank these albums, I am pretty much always focusing on the stuff I do listen to and how i feel they hold up to each other. Probably not the right way to do it and that's probably why I am completely in the opposite direction as everyone else playing for the most part.

As I've said in the past, I just don't (and probably don't even know how) pick apart certain guitar solos, who sings what background part, falsetto parts, or what words make sense and which ones don't. If I like a song, I like a song, if I don't, I don't. I'm probably not even qualified to play this game and shouldn't be allowed to. :hilarious:

I'm the same way as you pretty much. If I like it, I like it! If I don't, I don't.

I'm with you and Brooke on this, Willie.
Which is why I earlier (post # 218) said

I suspect that OTB has gone for the simple reason that it's not in the 'top three' of most people's list of 'favourites'. Although it's an 'OK' sort of album, and I like six of the songs there's not one which I would rush to play.
(In fact, I can't think why I'm an Eagles fan because I'm sure that if I added up their songs I would find that I skip more than I play. )
And the 'ranking' of songs, and the number of them I skip, is why I have been so far been voting for Hotel California. (That might change in this round, depending on the votes go.)

As we always stress in these Survivor games, everyone has different criteria about how they choose what to vote for - there is no wrong or right way. I think whenever there are differences of opinion that's what it usually boils down to - folks are focusing on different things to decide if something is bad or good.

I certainly appreciate that some folks prefer not to pick things apart and just like what they like. I typically form an initial judgment about a song that way. But then, I usually end up listening for other things a little closer at some point, particularly with songs that are heard over and over. For me, that's probably why I don't tire of songs too easily - I try to listen to them "differently" whenever I hear them.

Since we are voting for albums in this game, I am trying to judge them each as a collective piece of work so my criteria is different than just judging individual songs. That may explain why my two favorite albums are the concept albums - I just love how the songs are all different but fit together so well as a cohesive unit.

ETA: One more thought I'd like to add - Most of you have probably heard the old saying that 'you can't judge an album by its cover' ... well, to me, you can't judge it by just one or two songs either. It's kinda like judging people based on whether or not they are tall, thin, and blonde.

Ive always been a dreamer
11-29-2011, 06:18 PM
Wow - it's been quiet in here today. We still have quite a few outstanding votes based on previous rounds so anything can happen if those folks come in to vote.

I don't need to wait any longer to vote because I won't change my mind due to the closeness of this round. As I have already said numerous times, I believe song for song from start to finish when you compare Desperado with the Eagles album, Desperado is a much stronger album. It's funny because when Desperado was first released, like a lot of people, I wasn't particularly enamored with it, and I liked Eagles better. But after time, also like I lot of people, I came to appreciate Desperado as a very high quality piece of work and now I absolutely love it. Therefore ...

I cast my vote for Eagles.

It makes perfect sense to me! 90% sounds about right and I rank them the same way. I don't necessarily make my choices by who sings lead or who wrote a particular song. It's usually the vocal that pulls me in, but its the melody and the story being told that keeps me coming back for more.

Well, I said I wasn't going to fight for another album since HFO got the boot, but I can't keep my fat mouth shut. I for one have to say after the first Eagles album, & I was a fan back then, I was so hugely DISAPPOINTED in the DESPERADO album when I got it. I hardly listened to it at the time & I never loaded it to my Ipod, so I guess I don't miss it. The EAGLES LP was their breakout album & it was quite a debut for them. Not every song is fabulous, but it was their claim to fame & for a first album, very successful, & I believe put them on the road to Stardom! I have sentimental attachments to some of these albums & the Eagles LP is that for me being that it started it all.

So I am asking those who have not yet voted to spare the EAGLES LP & Vote DESPERADO off the island.....PLEASE

No suspense here, for the third straight round I vote to eliminate One of These Nights. C'mon, how did this one make it into the 'Top 4' albums? Please don't let it go any further. All the other remaining albums are so much better, and 'deserve' to be near the top.

Anyway, there's no question that everyone has their own favorite songs and albums, but what has been most surprising to me from this game is the high number of dedicated Eagles fans (that is, members of this forum) that have said they 'skip over' alot of songs on the various albums. That is something I almost never do. If I put on an album, I listen to the whole album (Isn't that the whole point of 'albums'?). Now, certainly there are some albums I listen to a lot more than others (and some I just never listen to, like OOTN), but if I am going to listen to an album, I listen to the whole thing (and besides, MOST of the Eagles albums are very good to great from start to finish). In fact, there are only 4 Eagles songs I can think of that I would ever even consider 'skipping', and they are: Teenage Jail, Disco Strangler, Fast Company, and One of These Nights (and since I rarely listen to TLR and never listen to OOTN, it doesn't come up much), but everything else I listen to every song every time. Anyway, I just thought that was interesting and somewhat surprising.

I agree with you. I don't 'skip' songs either. But if I did they would be these tracks: Journey Of The Sorcerer, Visions, I Wish You Peace (all from OOTN) and the two tracks which I don't even have on my iPod - Love Will Keep Us Alive & Please Come Home For Christmas. I apologise to the people who like those last two songs. I wouldn't skip Teenage Jail because mediocre though it is, Glenn sings some of it, which was a rare event in that stage of the band's career. I don't skip solo songs either, but that is another discussion.

I'm one of those types who likes to listen to every song on an album without skipping... but I always figured that was just me. When you think about it, it is kind of odd to subject yourself to a song you don't like just because you want to hear every song on the album... yet I do it anyway. People are funny!

Well that's not a problem for me when it comes to the Eagles, Soda, cause as I said earlier, there's no Eagles song that I can't listen too - I like 'em all! I wonder if people who generally listen to albums all the way through do it because they grew up on vinyl or cassettes - and that was just what you did. (Can't imagine my son listening to an album the whole way through - he buys "songs" not "albums").

I developed a bit of habit of skipping from car trips that aren't long enough to play a whole album - so I choose the songs I like most.

Willie, it's ok! See, the Eagles have music for everybody!

I cast my vote this time for One of These Nights. Didn't Glenn say that it was his favorite song in the booklet of VBO? One of my faves, too! I absolutely love that sexy vocal of Don's on this song! :sigh:

I've always loved the title track, Lyin' Eyes, After The Thrill Is Gone, Take It To The Limit, and Hollywood Waltz. I'm one that kind of likes I Wish You Peace and Too Many Hands. If I skip any it would be Visions and JOTS.

I don't skip songs too often. If I have time I will listen to the whole album. If I don't, I will skip the songs I don't really care for. My husband is one that usually just listens to the songs he loves. He says he doesn't have time for the rest. I tell him he's missing out on lots of good music.

You know, it's very hard to vote against any Eagles song any time, but in this game, that's just what you have to do. It doesn't mean I hate any of their songs. Quite the contrary!

EK - You make a very good point about those of us that "grew up" listening to albums. Very different from today's trend of just downloading a single song that you like. As far as the compilations, I really don't listen to the band's released compilation CDs that much. Well, actually, I have been known to listen to "The Very Best of ..." and "Eagles Live" quite a bit. In today's world of downloading and burning CDs, I kinda cheat a little and make my own compilation CDs with my very favorite songs.

As far as the One of These Nights album, I starting commenting on it, and I realized that what I was writing sounded very much like something I'd already said before. So I went back and searched through a few old thread and found this ...

While I've been posting on the board today, I listened to the One of These Nights albums again. Even though I agree the albums biggest problems is its 'uneveness', it is still a very good album. To me, OOTN, LE, TITTL, and ATTIG are so great that they overshadow the other songs. I also agree with what Freypower said earlier in this thread about the Hollywood Waltz lyrics foreshadowing Hotel California. Actually, I think this is probably true about the lyrics of the other songs as well, with the exception of I Wish You Peace. To me, it's not that IWYP is a bad song, it's just that it seems out of place on the album. I think bluegrass flavored JOTS is also out of place. As much love and respect as I have for Bernie, I think his contributions on this albums exacerbate the problems he was having fitting in with the rest of the band at this point. It is very evident to me that the band and Bernie were moving in very different musical directions by the time this album was recorded.

This is pretty much exactly the way I still feel about this album. Barring some unforeseen surprise, it looks like this album will be going down this time, and rightly so, IMHO. This has been the only easy round in this game for me, but I'm thinking the remaining ones are gonna be a dog fight. So - since voting strategically won't really affect the outcome of the remaining rounds at this point, I am going to vote the way both my heart and my head tell me ...

I cast my vote for One of These Nights.

This is a really hard choice. I love all 3 of these albums.

I'm very reluctantly voting for DESPERADO. Even though I like playing the album from start to finish, this is one where I wouldn't select all the songs to play individually or to add to a play list - I think they work best as an (outstanding) album.

LROOE and HC work as both albums and the majority of the tracks as individual songs to listen to any time (IMHO).

This got me thinking, I'm from the album generation and am still an avid vinyl collector-I have advocated in other discussions to people who only listen to the hits, telling them that you may be missing so much good stuff if you don't listen to anything but just the hits. BUT I have to admit, if I'm listening to a cd or my ipod, I do tend to skip songs BUT if I have an album on, I do tend to listen to the whole thing. So there's obviously something to that theory for sure.

My vote, once again, goes to Desperado!

When we played this same game on The Border a few years ago, these were the last three remaining albums, so it doesn't really surprise me that they are the last three standing in this game as well. I won't be a spoiler and say how the last game ended up though. Anyone who wants to know can go back and read the thread.

I think a lot of fans here feel more of a connection to LROOE since this is the band's only recent album. While it's not in my personal top three, I do think it's a very good album that stands up well against the band's 70s work. As far as Desperado, all I can say is no matter what happens from here, it put up a valiant fight in this game - a testament to the quality of the album and how many fans still love it almost 40 years after its less than stellar debut.

I cast my vote for Long Road Out of Eden.

I think it's a great album, but some of the songs do not sound like Eagles songs to me. Particularly some of Glenn's songs like I Love To Watch A Woman Dance, What Do I Do With My Heart, and It's Your World Now. Love the songs, but imo, they aren't Eagles songs. And also there are several songs that I just don't really care for at all, namely Fast Company and Don's rant, Frail Grasp.

Desperado and Hotel California are classic Eagles albums and I think deserve to be in the final two. They have stood the test of time. JMO.

LROOE has SO many songs to choose from and many I love! There are a few I can do w/out, but overall it's a great album.

I'm happy with the top three contenders. I'm not sure if I'm surprised or not w/this outcome, because we all have such different tastes. It's nice to see that one album from the early years and the most recent are still standing.

I think I may be surprising myself with this vote... but here it is anyway...

I vote for Desperado.

I'm happy with the top three, and I think it's a testament to the band's skill that their most recent album stands with their best work.

However, I have to agree with those that say Long Road Out of Eden doesn't have as much of a "band" feel as Desperado and Hotel California. Several songs were solo material adapted for band use and a lot of the work was done over email.

Additionally, while many of the tracks are superior, songs like "Frail Grasp" and "Fast Company" do bring it down a bit. I'm also not hugely enamored of the title track (blasphemy, I know).

Should that matter? I leave it to you to decide. However, for me...

I cast my vote for Long Road Out of Eden.

As for the title track, I love it live, but have skipped it many times on the album.

What do you mean by the term "band feeling"? That is a term I have never heard of. The band is the band... There are different players throughout the years, as well, there have been writings with other song writers on both Desperado & LROOE. All bands use the new technology, which was unavailable at the time Desperado was made. Besides, that "band feeling" apparently wasn't a very good one due to all the fighting that was going on within the band..

To me Desperado was a huge let down after a well produced & outstanding first album, the Eagles lp. I do not understand all the whoop-la over Desperado, as some kind of breakthrough, masterpiece for the band. To me it wasn't. The only masterpiece, to me was HOTEL CALIFORNIA. That is what brought the Eagles to the next level...in terms of the writing, the execution & the musicianship.

Yeah, I'm fine with these as the 'Top 3', and only fitting that they represent the best from three different 'eras' and band lineups throughout the years. In this assemblage, there is something for everyone, from the classic album from the original quartet (Desperado), the classic album from their more 'Rockin' lineup (with addition of Felder and Walsh), and their most recent success with the current (and most long-lasting) lineup, Henley, Frey, Schmit, and Walsh, for those that like the newer stuff best.

So, all in all, despite all the struggles and turmoil of this game, it worked out pretty well to this point. I. personally, would have had On The Border in the #3 spot, instead of LROOE, but I have no conplaint with LROOE making it this far. It really is a very good album, was a great 'comeback' album, and just surprisingly strong throughout (I have to admit that before it came out I was worried that the album would not live up to the previous high musical standards and would rank up with their best stuff, but it really does.

However, with all that said, I would still have to say that it does not quite rank up with Desperado and Hotel California. As good as the individual songs are, I agree with the others that noted that it does seem as much of a true 'band' or 'Eagles' effort, and many of the songs are more like a collection of their various solo efforts. now, this is not surprising, because despite the long history of the band, they have each actually spent more recording and performing as solo artists, than they have as 'The Eagles' (taking 14 and 12 year breaks between albums will do that). So, it's not at all surprising, but it still does detract a bit from the 'Band feeling' as Soda said. In addition, despite the overall high quality, it does contain a couple of really sub-par tracks in Fast Company and Frail Grasp. Thus, although a very good album that I really like alot, it just is not quite in the same league as Desperado and HC, which are true classics in every sense of the word, every song stellar, and both being among the greatest rock albums ever made.

So, with kudos and applause to LROOE for making it this far and establishing itself as being among the Eagles best albums, I nonetheless have to cast my vote to eliminate Long Road Out of Eden from the competition, and let Desperado and Hotel California duke it out for the title, as they truly should.

In my opinion if the band had been 'fighting' as much as you claim they would not have been able to record LROOE at all. There was some dispute about how many songs were to be released, I know that; but I'm not aware of anything worse than that.

What I think people mean by 'band feeling' is the fact that a lot of the music appears to have been played by the backing musicians; we do not know who plays on which tracks; on some of Glenn's tracks Don appears to be absent and so on. As others have said, some of the tracks seem to be more solo songs than Eagles songs.

The band fighting I mentioned is during Desperado, not LROOE. There are different band members on these 2 albums. The reasons that Bernie & Randy quit the band, is what I mean....I think the later band, meaning with Joe & Tim, seem to get along a lot better. Maybe because they are older & wiser, they seemed to have settled into a happier working relationship.

I have also commented in the past that I don't think some of the songs on LROOE have a "band" feel to them and that they sound more like solo songs to me as well ... in particular - Waiting In the Weeds, You Are Not Alone, and I Love To Watch a Woman Dance (even though I adore all three of these songs). But honestly, I think that was sometimes the case with some of the earlier music as well. I just don't think we noticed it as much because it was before the band members had solo careers and we weren't as familiar with their individual styles like we are now. But, having said that, the album does seem less of a collaborative band effort than their best 70's work. However, it does seem right somehow that these three albums finished in the top three to represent each important era for the band. I'm not sure my vote will make a difference at this point in saving Desperado, but ...

I cast my vote for Long Road Out of Eden.

I'm sorry that I have not been around since the first round. I was away for a bit, but mostly I have been experiencing VERY FRUSTRATING internet problems! :enraged: :censored: After many hours on the phone with our internet provider & 3 service calls the problem has not been completely solved so, as of yesterday, we have switched to another internet provider. I was having "The Border" withdrawal!

Anyway, I have read all the previous posts & have found the comments most interesting. My favorite album, OTB has been eliminated, but I am pleased to see that my favorite, Desperado, is still in the running. I love LROOE, even though there are some songs that I will skip some of the time. I don't care much for Fast Company, in particular. Contrary to the opinions of others, I do like Frail Grasp. While I think Hotel California is a great album, it doesn't do as much for me as it does for many. I love HC & NKIT. I very much like LITFF, VOL & WT. I don't dislike any of the songs on the album, but the remaining ones & just "like".

So, ducking & running (especially from Austin ),

I cast my vote for Hotel California.

I get what Nancy means by the phrase 'Band Feeling'. I guess its the kinda cohesive force that defines the band as one entity as opposed to a 'sum of parts'. I also try to consider whether I PERSONALLY prefer an album over another, or which objectively would be considered a more superior album in general.

I'm surprised and pleased that LROOE has made it this far. I love many of the songs on it, and really enjoy playing it. That said, Desperado and HC have really stood the test of time. For example, when I decided to explore the Eagles music in more detail and went looking in my music stores to buy their albums, those two were the ones which consistently showed up. Obviously they are the ones which sell, and the ones which people associate most with the Eagles. So no surprise that they are still in the running too.

Anyway I guess all this verbal rot is to try to let myself decide which to eliminate. I have been considering it a lot today.

Ok My decision is to eliminate 'Long Road Out Of Eden'

This is a hard decision for me as my top two albums are LROOE and Desperado. LROOE because it's the one responsible for me growing to love (some of!) the Eagles' songs (and then Tim ) and Desperado because it has some of my favourite Eagles' songs on it.
One of them is definitely going to go this round, and I can't try to save one more than the other, so it's a case of 'what will be, will be' as to which one goes, and my vote is for Hotel California.

Now, as for which one I want to win, I think the album that the band is best known for and that has had a huge impact on not only music culture but pop culture in general should be the winner. I mean, this album not only produced hit after hit that got ingrained in the minds of listeners around the world, it made "life in the fast lane" and "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave" catch phrases that get instant recognition to this day.

I noticed some of the songs that I had previously just glossed over, like: Business As Usual, Guilty of the Crime, & What Do I Do With My Heart....and then there are the songs I absolutely LOVE, like Waiting In the Weeds, I Don't Want To Hear Anymore, & Fast Company, but it is the reality that this album, as great as it is, will never reach the ABSOLUTE ICONIC STATUS of HOTEL CALIFORNIA, so it is with a little bit of sadness:

I love both of these albums, although neither are my favourite. However I'm voting for
HOTEL CALIFORNIA

for the win. Simply because it is in many ways the album which people generally think about if they mention the Eagles! As is the title track when people discuss them. It was written when the Eagles were at their peak in the 70s and has stood the test of time since then. It appears in many 'Top Ten' album lists and is considered by both professional musicians and amateur fans alike to be a classic album.

I'm sure time will be kind to LROOE as well, but IMHO it's just not quite in the same league as HC.

Well, I thought that with the demise of Desperado last round (which I believe is the Eagles best and greatest album), the voting was pretty much moot for this round, that it would be a near unanimous rout for HC, and since I couldn't vote for Desperado, I wasn't really planning on voting. But I didn't expect such strong support for for LROOE, such that this round might really be close.

Now, as I said previously, LROOE is a great album, and it was nice to see it get the support to make it to the top 3. But, really, beyond that is a bit much. As others have said, Hotel California is THE classic, that has not only stood the test of time, but has increased in stature and importance over the years. as much as I like LROOE, there is just no comparison with HC for the 'best album' title. Yes, LROOE is a great album, and very enjoyable, but HC is an all-time classic. We can check back in 20-30 years and see if by then LROOE has achieved the kind of acclaim and stature that HC has. But until then, the winner between these two just has to be Hotel California.

So, I definitively cast my vote for Hotel California (even though Desperado is still better).

WalshFan88
12-05-2011, 08:05 PM
Glad to see these votes for Hotel. :partytime: I would have to disagree though that Desperado is better than Hotel California. Desperado isn't even in the same class. IMO it's the "worst" Eagles album and the one with the least amount of good hit songs.

Although one cannot say which one is better though, as it is subjective so one cannot say Desperado is better or vice versa, but IMO Hotel California trumps not only Desperado but every other Eagles album and many other albums by many big bands.

Simply put, Hotel California is the best album ever made and the true masterpiece of this band and also classic rock history, IMEO. It's no secret I'm not a big fan of the first 2 albums until Don Felder got in there to rock it up and then ultimately when Bernie Leadon was replaced is when the Eagles became a true rock Supergroup with Joe Walsh in there who IMHO is not only a better guitarist but also had/has lots of experience prior to the band with rock and roll and writing great hit songs. HC is the masterpiece record of the 70s and totally sums up the rock n' roll lifestyle and LA living. It's the best concept album ever made I think. It truly is packed from beginning to end with hit songs and great musical songs with amazing lyrics and can we not forget some of the greatest guitar licks, riffs, and solos of all time. The HC solo is the best electric guitar solo of all time in many guitarist's eyes including my own. It is truly a masterpiece. And I never skip one song on HC when listening to it. I can't say that about any other Eagles album. The only songs on Desperado I can stomach are the title track and "Out Of Control". I cannot stomach Tequila Sunrise. It has to be one of the poorest Eagles tunes IMO. If they had more songs in the same vain as OOC I'd love the album. But most of it is depressing country music. I don't even like most happy country music! :hilarious: But Out Of Control is more my speed. And I'm putting my rock n' roll and HC bias aside when I say Desperado is the poorest. I'm evaluating the music itself, just FWIW. I think it just doesn't have much substance, personal connection, or story to the music other than a general theme but I find it hard to connect to any of the songs in a personal way except perhaps the title track which is miles above the other songs (except OOC but it's more of a feel good song and not a story/life connection song). Again music is SO personal and completely subjective.

When I say Desperado is the worst Eagles album, I mean that somewhat lightheartedly because I also believe like many here that the Eagles cannot make a bad album and that there are no bad Eagles albums. Perhaps "poorest" would be a better choice of words here.

Again JMO and some closing statements prior to the end of the round. It's all subjective and my opinion so please take my comments as such! :)

Well - this is a no brainer for me as well. As much as I love LROOE and understand how some fans may connect more with the newer material, it definitely has not achieved the same stature as Hotel California. I'll try not to repeat too much of what others have said, but Hotel California is almost always in the Top 10 of just about any "Best Albums" list you ever see. And to me, it deserves to be there. At the time it was recorded, this album had a significant social and cultural impact that very few other albums in rock and roll have had. It is in an elite class with only a handful of other albums in that regard. So my head tells me that the album should win this game.

My heart also tells me that it should win. Personally, I get emotional every whenever I hear the song performed live. This may sound weird, but it's at that point at every Eagles concert that I've ever attended when I realize how priviledged I am to be listening to one of the greatest bands ever performing one of the greatest songs ever. It gets to me and I choke up every single time. As far as the album, I'm still in awe of it's brilliance everytime I listen to it. I never take it for granted - to this very day, I appreciate it for the masterpiece that I believe it is! So, in case you haven't figured it out by now ...

I VOTE FOR HOTEL CALIFORNIA TO WIN THIS GAME!!!

Can we get an Amen? AMEN! :hilarious: I also share the emotional connection to the song/album as well, as you already know.

A recent version - the guy filmed the screens for the most part so it's really good for a fan-filmed vid!

Ahem - the best album in your opinion won.

One thing that people often say when we ask them for a favourite song/album is 'that's what I would choose today- tomorrow may be different'. And it's therefore interesting to note that four people changed their choice from the last Albums Survivor. Three who previously voted for HC this time chose LROOE; one changed from LROOE to HC.

Perhaps, but I'm far from the only one that thinks HC is the best Eagles album and some even best album of all time. :D ;) But yes, IMO it is the best. It blows my mind to think people would put Desperado in front of it. Mind = blown. :hilarious: Not even in the same class as far as I'm concerned. :D

Wow. I agree that HC is a great album & that it has stood the test of time. But for me personally, I know it too well & I have to be quite honest become somwhat tired of it. Really only the first three songs are the ones that still get me excited, although I still love VOL, PMIAR and to a lesser extent TALA. It may be heresy to say so but right now, I find LROOE fresher and with more to say. And I voted in this game for what meant most to me, not critics. Heresy, yes.

I'm happy HC won... it probably would have been strange if it hadn't... I mean, it's such an iconic album!

I've found lately that I have a hard time listening to HC in its recorded version. The songs have appeared in so many live formats that those have become my preferred versions. Fortunately, every song but one is recorded live somewhere.

Still, live or recorded, the songs hold up after all these years. That's why it got my vote.

Congratulations again to Hotel California!!!

Honestly, I can't imagine any other album winning this game. To me, no matter how you slice it, whether you like the album best or not, whether you're tired of the songs or not, whether you prefer live versions or not, I'm guessing that most of the planet would agree that this album remains the band's crowning achievement.

And for the record, as some of us do after these games, here is my ranking of the albums ...

1. Hotel California
2. Desperado
3. On the Border
4. Long Road Out of Eden
5. The Long Run
6. One of These Nights
7. Eagles
8. Eagles Live
9. Hell Freezes Over

I'd say my list was a little bit off from the game, especially in those killer middle rounds.

The Long Run
Long Road Out Of Eden

Desperado

And to be honest, other than the first 2, they probably change in order from time to time.

Yes, I do know what you mean! Hotel California's success - both commercially and artistically - and its corresponding cultural influence is absolutely epic. I also believe it deserves this win.

However, I do think it's interesting that many hardcores don't list Hotel California as their favorite Eagles album. Perhaps it's because we focus on more than just the hits and popular sentiment.

It was my favourite Eagles album for decades. It was my second favourite album after Band On The Run for decades. But as I said times have changed for me at least. While LROOE may now be my second favourite Eagles album, it is not my second favourite album of all time (for the record my favourite album is now the Beatles' Revolver). I'm not going to bore you with a list of what are probably my ten favourite albums now. All I would say is both LROOE & HC would be in there somewhere.

I found it very interesting to see how differently many of us have ranked the albums, but I guess that's what made the game interesting. Only about 24 or so people played the game, so I really wonder what other Eagle fans think.

Well, the one thing most agree on is that HOTEL CALIFORNIA is the winner of Survivor & nobody can dispute that this was the album that gave the Eagles the most recognition, fame & took the Eagles to the next level of Superstardom!

Once again; CONGRATULATIONS TO HOTEL CALIFORNIA

Now - as far as that line that I wrote in the final results, I'm glad you liked it. As I went back and read it, I realized that it's pretty clumsy grammatically, but, heck, you all get the point!

OK, since others are listing their preference list, Here's mine 'for the record'.

1. Desperado

2. Hotel California
3. On The Border
4. Eagles
5. Long Road Out of Eden

6. Hell Freezes Over
7. The Long Run
8. Eagles Live
9. One of These Nights

Yes, we all have very different tastes, styles, and interests, yet we all 'love' the Eagles music. But, I guess that's what makes these 'games' so intense, exciting, and sometimes frustrating. It's always interesting to hear what everyone has to say about the albums and music, even if I disagree strongly with some of the views. But variety is the spice of life, as they say.

Absolutely. And I would add to that - some of us rate the songs that appeal emotionally (which varies by person & what's happening in their life), some by various aspects of musicality - complexity, technique, melody, harmony, vocals, guitar playing etc etc - some by lyrics and most of us by varying combinations of all those factors. And Eagles music has something for all of us in all those areas.

For me, after the first 4 it gets difficult to pick the rest.... I really like Desparado, On the Border and One of These Nights, but the first 4 just stand out! It is weird for me to put Eagles Live on the bottom as I love their live music even more than the recorded, but it isn't my favorite of their recorded work.

Hey all - Since so many players posted their favorites list at the end of this game, a few folks have suggested that we compile the results of the lists as we do in the album celebration threads and post the results to see how they compare to the results of the game. I have compiled the results so far, but will wait a few days before posting them to see if any others who played the game want to post their list. It should be interesting!

I know some folks get a little nervous whenever people disagree, but I have to admit I love it when people passionately defend their favorites! This game certainly had its share of that!

Okay - I going to go ahead and post the compiled results of everyone's lists. The results are pretty interesting compared to the results of the Survivor game. A little over half of the folks that played the game posted a list so I guess it may be hard to draw any real conclusions from this, but here we go anyways ...

First of all, just to refresh your memory, the results of the Survivor game, in reverse order were:

1. Hotel California
2. Long Road Out of Eden
3. Desperado
4. One of These Nights
5. Eagles
6. On the Border
7. The Long Run
8. Hell Freezes Over
9. Eagles Live

And the results of the poll are as follows:

1. Hotel California - 105 points
2. Long Road Out of Eden - 80 points (tied for 2nd/3rd place)
3. The Long Run - 80 points (tied for 2nd/3rd place)
4. On the Border - 78 points
5. Desperado - 77 points
6. One of These Nights - 64 points
7. Hell Freezes Over - 57 points
8. Eagles - 55 points
9. Eagles Live - 34 points

Now - since the results between LROOE, The Long Run, On the Border, and Desperado are so close - only 3 points separate the 4 albums, I decided to see if the results would differ much if I removed the two compilation albums (HFO and Eagles Live) from the mix and just counted the 7 studio albums. So here are the results when I did that ...

1. Hotel California - 80 points
2. Long Road Out of Eden - 61 points
3. Desperado - 58 points
4. The Long Run - 57 points
5. On the Border - 56 points
6. One of These Nights - 44 points
7. Eagles - 36 points

So even though it did change the order somewhat, there are still only 5 points that separate those 4 albums. So who knows how it would turn out if everyone had posted a list. :?: :?: :?:

VAisForEagleLovers

I didn't post a list because my list changes depending on what mood I'm in. That doesn't happen as much with other artists, but with the Eagle's wide range of influences, my favorites this week might be at the bottom of the list next week.

My list would change too. I have an easy top 3 - HC, LROOE and Desperado (not necessarily in that order though) and then the rest would change their order- but probably would never replace the top 3.
