 Zelda
I did the antibiotic thing about 2-3 weeks ago...remarkably, this was the first time in a long time I was able to donate blood at the school's blood drive--I'm usually on antibiotics or running a fever :yuck:
However...I felt a little iffy before the donation, so I ate some potato chips...then after, I just felt sleepy/draggy all day--that's never happened!! I figure I should have eaten more protein at breakfast (thought I had...)

Zelda, hope your better soon!
I had to get talked into getting an Ipod years ago, now mine goes with me everywhere I go. I feel your pain, Brooke. If I die tomorrow and people look at what I have on my Ipod, I wonder what they will think...the other day I downloaded Kid Rock and the Cowsills.
Lol, Molly! Same here!
I went online at Apple about mine to try to find a customer service number to call and it told me when I put in my serial number that it had been manufactured over five years ago and too old for service. I bought it in July of 2010. Not even three years old! I guess I'm screwed! Never could find a phone number. :scowl:

It's an ipod Nano, 4th or 5th generation.
Thank you Tk, but you don't need to do that. I found online where it costs $19 to talk to them about a repair because it's out of warranty and then $79-$99 for a repair, if it's possible. Might as well buy a new one!

I haven't read the backlog of posts but have you done a hard reset? If you have and it's still not working - it's definitely cheaper and more feasible to get a new one. If it's just a battery problem that's one thing (I change those out for people locally) but if it's a main board, it's definitely better to get a new one.

I haven't tried that Austin, but I will. Thanks for the suggestion.
It seems to be in the jack, where you plug in the cord....no sound through the speakers but some loud pops when you push it in or out. The music plays through the ipod itself though.

EL, I'm glad you got it figured out!! The VPN system my company used to have would block the sites, but it always told me it was doing it. It was hard for me to remember if I was on the company network or not, so it happened a lot. Now, I don't need to worry about it. Perhaps that was the issue, or something like it? Just guessing here...
As for me, I got some great financial news last evening. If things pan out the way they are supposed to, I'll have a windfall I hadn't expected. I'm tempted to spend it all on VIP tickets to see our guys, and I will do one or two of those at some point. However, I'm seeing a new water heater in my future, and getting someone else to install it so I don't set the house on fire while trying to sweat out and resolder the copper. Maybe a new washing machine and some rain gutters. Oh, the things a girl dreams about... Maybe I'll win tonight's lottery and I can just buy a new house. Somewhere warm.

Hopefully, it'll pan out, especially as I didn't win the Powerball drawing last night! Z, I'm very tempted to spend it on four handsome men, especially after not being at the concert last night. However, I'd like to think that God gave me a brain for a reason, so I'll only spend some of it on four handsome men, at some point in the future. I have to say, I'm so very tempted to say the heck with it and spend it on Lasik eye surgery. No idea how much that costs these days, I'm due for an eye appointment soon, maybe I'll ask.

So...has anyone here ever had a pneumonia vaccine? My doctor thinks I should get one, even though I've only ever had it once.
I know my dad had one & he told me to get one. I think I did have it, but I can't remember when. I think it lasts for 5 years. I don't think it's a bad idea if the doctor recommends it for you. Most people don't even know about it & it's very good for older people to get because many do die from pneumonia.
pueblo47
03-28-2013, 04:50 PM
I got one last year along with the flu shot and shingles shot. One pneumonia vaccine will last MOST people a lifetime, some with a weak immune system due to organ transplant, kidney disease, HIV infections, or other conditions may require periodic shots.

Since I'm allergic to honeysuckle of all things, and my reaction to it is asthma, this is the main reason he thinks I should get it. The state of VA has planted it as ground cover everywhere, so there's no getting away from it.

Tiffanny Twisted
03-28-2013, 06:24 PM
Oh Va....did you just find out you were allergic to it?
I get the flu shot every year due to working in the health industry iwth direct patient contact and chronic ilness . I asked about that shot and was told too young for it. I also wanted the shingles shot and told too young for that too.
I dissagree with the not being old enough to get the shingles shot since anyone who had chicken pox has it still dormat in their system. We have seen a rise in college kids with shingles in their eyes. It comes down to the insurance company doesitn want to be on the hook for paying for it.
If your docotr said to get I am sure he had his reasons, something to think about.
VAisForEagleLovers
03-28-2013, 06:39 PM
No, I learned the hard way about ten years ago that I'm allergic to it. I've been allergic to it to touch, touching it is like poison ivy for me. It's only been in the last few years that it's gotten bad when it's in bloom and bothered my breathing. Last spring, we had such hot weather, it started to bloom right about now. Then it got cool through the end of April and May and even into June, it didn't go away here in my neighborhood until the 100+ temps we had before the 4th of July.

It is very weird. My doctor even told me it's weird. (Gotta love him.) As far as the scent, it doesn't trigger any sinus issues like hayfever or anything. Just the asthma, and it's more of a coughing thing than wheezing or anything like that. I just cough and if I can't solve the issue, it turns into bronchitis. I was very worried about the first Atlanta Eagles show last year because we had front row seats and I was coughing all the time. Then I left Virginia and the problem was solved. Until I came back four days later!

Ugh...mine is like that (more of a serious cough)...I've only once felt like I was about to have a full-blown attack (due to some poor gal's perfume at church)...sadly, I have to put up with the smell of freshly waxed school floors every August, that's a BIG trigger for me...plus the crew might buff our floors over spring break, ack!!

VA, sorry about your allergy. I love the smell of honeysuckle and have a huge vine of it growing up a corner of our deck. If your doctor recommends the shot, I would think it would be a good idea for you.
Thankfully, I don't have much of a problem with any allergies. Something bothers me a little because I have to blow my nose a lot. Dust probably, but not a real bother.

I did mine the night before the Eagles concerts were announced (good timing) and got my state refund the same week. Gotta love Turbo Tax! Mine aren't very complicated, standard homeowner deductions on Schedule A, and I learned years ago not to sell any stocks, bonds, and such unless I'm either dying or down to my last nickel. Dealing with Schedule D isn't worth it. If I'm dying, then it's someone else's problem at tax time.

You all are indeed lovely people. I can see why the spirit of New Yorkers shone so much during the dark days during and after the 9/11 attacks, and how their resilience is allowing the WTC to rise again. I know too from some of the people I met and spoke with that the memory of that awful time is still as alive as ever.

So true that the memory of that time will be with us forever. I've pretty much always worked in lower Manhattan, since I moved to NYC, so it's been gratifying to see the towers rise after so long. And I think the memorial is beautiful.
I hope you also got to see the Irish Hunger Memorial, which is right here too. I think that is so simple and beautiful as well. It took me a while to even realize what it was! It's lovely, and sometimes I'll just go over there and walk around in it. A little oasis of green amongst the buildings.

Good news for my bass teacher...he's accepting a full-time position at a church about 30 minutes away ...but the bad news is that he's moving 30 minutes away, don't expect him to be able to continue with his teaching here in JC (that was his other PT job other than being our music leader at church)...happy for him but anxious to find out who he's going to hook me up with for lessons...

Back in 1993 when I graduated from Grade 8, I had a party with family and friends. Well a baby girl and her parents attended, She was 18 months old at the time. I have a pic of the two of us at the party with her on my hip. A few years later our families lost touch and I only reconnected with her this past year thru FB.
Well today this young lady graduated from UNIVERSITY!!! Where have the years gone, It is a very strange feeling indeed.

I am. I'm still very stressed for two reasons. One, she HATES asking for help and is very much a DIY person. I'm so afraid she will overdo it and hurt herself in the process. Trying to keep her cooped up or keep her from doing too much is a fulltime job. And two, she has a small hematoma at the incision site that is causing pain but the nurse in the recovery room before we left said it was ok and that she wasn't too concerned. It looks slightly better now but very painful.

Austin, glad to hear your mother is doing well! As for keeping her from doing too much, one trick I've used on my mother is once she gets me thoroughly exasperated, I just ask her, "Mom, if it were me who just had the surgery and wanting to be doing this, what would you tell me to do?" It doesn't always work, but it's worth a try!

I'm trying that! Thanks for the tip... She is a very active person and this is her first "real" surgery (other than LASIK and a C section when I was born). It's killing her that she is in pain and can't get up and take care of us. She doesn't realize she just had MAJOR back surgery. :brickwall:

You probably remember me telling last winter about my snl's baby that wasn't developing......she had the baby about a month ago, just a couple weeks early. The baby girl passed away just before birth and weighed just three pounds. Looked normal in every way. Mom and Dad are dealing with it very well. They had a long time to adjust, but it was horrible for them knowing and having to carry the baby to term. We are all very sad about it.
I am also a great auntie again. It should be happy news, but it was also very hard since my snl above was good friends/aunt with the new momma. Baby girl named Meg Allyn born Friday night. All doing well, thankfully.
Bad news: my daughter in law's mother has had a stroke and is in the hospital awaiting test results. She is about my age! My son and dnl were called at work yesterday to come as quickly as possible to KC to the hospital. Prayers needed for her recovery. She is having speech and motor skills problems so far, but is stable.

Thanks guys for all the thoughts and prayers. My dnl's mother is back home and doing fine already! It sounded like she had a mini stroke, but the doctors would never say for sure. I don't know, GS, this is a public board. You probably shouldn't post your plans like that, but if you're asking for input, I'm not sure chickens in the library would cause a delay or cancellation. Zombies might, if they look significantly scary. Personally, I think that shouting "Niall Horan is out in the parking lot" would clear the school pretty quickly.

VAisForEagleLovers
04-26-2013, 10:41 AM
Hmm. Vanilla pudding in a mayo jar. This sounds like a good trick to play on my family. I wonder if my nephews would even notice? You know, you go to someone's house and they serve you something like this and hesitate to say anything. My aunt once made a pumpkin pie and used salt instead of sugar and no one said a word to her. Of course, she didn't do it on purpose.
So...you gotta like a well-trained boss! Mine just called me and his opening statement after 'hello' was, "Do you have any Eagles concerts to go to in and around May 8?" Of course I said 'no'. Then he asked if I'd be willing to make a quick business trip then.
The downside of this trip is that all my business suits except one are pants, and I don't think that's going to cut it. So I need to go out and spend money on new suits and probably shoes, since all mine are either flats or very high-heeled. Can't wear flats with a skirt and I'm not standing for eight hours for days on end in high heels. Good grief.
Brooke

I sat with his mother(my friend) and held her while she cried as she held the ashes of her son in a box on her lap. I could only hold her and rock her as she cried.
He was such a talented young man and every time he saw me had the biggest smile and said "Oh you are a friend of my moms. I am so proud of her...she is so talented".
So, hug your loved ones to nite and please say a prayer for Liams family. They need it..My heartjust aches ...there are no words.

Congratulations TBF on your son's graduation. You must be very proud. Have a great time.
TT; so sorry to hear that story...how terrible. Glad you were there to comfort this young man's mother. Nothing you can say,but to be there & support her will be a help. Very sad story There are too many drunks on the road & they just keep doing it over & over again. Now this guy has taken a life. I hope he goes to jail for a long time.
Brooke, glad you got your shot for shingles. My next door neighbor had it & it was terrible. Hope you hubby is better, I think it takes awhile. I never had the chicken pox, so I won't get it, but I guess I can still get chicken pox, but I doubt I will. Both my brothers had it, & I never got it as a kid.
We had a party at work because the company is having a 20 year anniversary so we had champagne & cake. They are taking us for a nice lunch on Tues. My boss was in a good mood & sent me home an hour early, so I was a happy camper!

My hubby is getting better every day! Thanks for all your thoughts! Shingles really is a terrible thing, so if anyone needs that vaccine-get it. It's worth it and painless. Check with your insurance and doctor. They may have to approve it first. Mine did and paid for it.

Back from a wonderful weekend. The only thing that would have made it better would have been the weather. It was rather cool for down there and rained off and on but not enough to dampen the spirit of things.
As for Dillon's plans, GA, he's signed up with Americorps. They place people in different jobs in areas where they are needed most in their fields. Usually teaching in rural or urban areas, etc.... Dillon has put in for the Seattle area or the Bay Area. Not sure how I feel about that since those places are so far away. It could be a year or so before he gets placed. In the meantime, he's staying in Bloomington and working a couple of jobs, actually interviewing for a third one tomorrow. I know this will not be the last of his schooling. If he could get paid to go to school, he would do it. He LOVES school and always has. He's talked about getting his PhD and/or law degree. We'll see what happens. Whatever makes him happy is how I feel about that.
Larry held up well for the weekend. The doctor had made him take Thurs and Fri off to be flat on his back to prepare his back for all the riding/walking he would be doing. By the end of Saturday tho, he was hurting and exhausted but it was worth it. Nothing was going to keep him from attending this graduation. He has another new doctor who is working with aligning his spine again and we seem to be seeing some progress with less pain also. Win/win. Keeping our fingers crossed.
Have an update on the baby that we lost in March. According to the autopsy report, they believe it was pnemonitis/bronchitis and a viral infection in her lungs. Joanna had been telling the doctor every time they were in that she seemed to have trouble breathing but they kept telling her to use a nasal mist. She was a preemie and she had worried that maybe her lungs were under developed or something. A week before Katrina passed away, she had her 4 months shots. Prior to them, Joanna once again expressed her concerns but the doctor said her lungs sounded clear and to keep using the nasal spray and proceeded to give her 4 vaccines and 1 oral vaccine. They now think that the oral vaccine might have caused havoc with the virus that she already had. To top it off, they say that perhaps a simple nasal swab would have told them about the virus and they could of treated her and held off on the shots. Joanna is devastated to say the least but is at least glad she does have a definitive answer on why. Her and I continue to work together in healing but not a day and even an hour go by without me thinking of it.

How very sad, TBF. At least you have an idea what really happened and maybe that will help all of you deal with it. It seems like sometimes doctors don't really listen and think they know everything and we trust that they do. But what else can we do? They are the experts. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

TBF, I've been wondering how all of you have been dealing with the loss of the baby. While I'm glad there's some answers as to what caused it, it bothers me that the doctor so easily brushed Joanna's comments aside. I'm sure he has to deal with parents constantly expecting him to immediately fix the least little sniffle, but it seems to me that especially when a baby is a preemie, extra caution needs to be taken.
As for Dillon, I can't even imagine how proud you must be of him. Not only to graduate, but to be such a responsible young adult along with it. Of course, it just means you raised him very well. :)

I'm delighted that both you and Larry had a great time at Dillon's graduation Willie! He has sure done you proud, and I hope he gets his chance to do that PHD. Has he expored the possibility of grants of spomsorship to hekp with the funding?
I'm glad you have answers re the passing of baby Katrina, but it seems like the doc could have done more. I remember once when Chris was about a month old he had a cold too and we were told that there was no appoinment available for him. Hubby as ked 'is is necessary for me 4 week old child to let me know when he is going to be sick so you can faciliatate and appointment for him?'. In nay case we brought him back to the hospital he was born in. But I do think parents concerns are for the most part genuiine and should be taken seriously.
I'm sure Joanna will never fully get over the death of her dear daughter, but at least she has a few answers.
Hang in Willie. I know things can be tough some times, but hopefully they will improve soon. :grouphug:

Get it ASAP! This is on my husband's thigh and his whole lower half is in pain. It looks awful! It's just so ironic that he got them and I got the vaccine. He said he would never laugh about such things again. He's still working though, if he can stand it, poor thing.
Poor guy - hope he feels better soon!

TT, It won't bring him back, but this man needs to pay the consequences for what his has done & most importantly get him off the streets. When drunk drivers get a slap on the wrist, they just go out & do it again. This is what happens when they let them go...Hope he goes to jail, where he belongs. I have no sympathy for drunk drivers. Too many innocent lives are lost to these people.

Well, listen to this one....I come home from work at about 10 to 7 & listen to the messages on my answering machine...There is a message from this guy Andy from the radio station Q104.3 telling me that I won 2 tickets to see Rod Stewart TONIGHT at 7:30 at IHeartRadio...This is where I had seen Joe a few months ago. Well, since I am back home in Queens, I can't get there in time. Why didn't they Email me this info or call me on my cell phone, because I could have gone to this theater right after work. I was SO PISSED OFF.
Last time I got tickets, I had a days notice, but they called me same day. I don't even know what time they left the message because the time on my machine is not correct.
How mad am I that I miss out on a free show at a great small venue???YEAH, I'm pissed. This guy Andy is gonna be hearing from me tomorrow. So instead I'm home watching American Idol & Glee....How depressing?

I'm not around much for the past and probably next week! Its incredibly busy at work as deadlines approach for projects (for kids who just don't get it!), then Laura makes her confirmation on Tuesday. Our nephew made his yesterday, and that lads younger brother will make his First Holy Communion next Saturday.
Meantime my Dad had a fall on Tuesday and I went with him for his follow up appoitment today. Because he was complaining of pain at the base of the hand and the thumb joint they had it x-rayed again, and then decided to put it in a cast for the next few weeks. So I'll be keeping an eye out for him too! He broke his little finger on the right hand so that is already splinted as well. And cut his middle finger, but that seems to be healing well thank God! He doesn't really remember much, if anything about the fall, so he keeps wondering what happened his hand.

I finally finished my room and that took me about 2 months. First I had to remove all the paper-hanging (took me long enough), please remind me never to put that stuff on a wall again! It was horrible to get rid of it. After that I started painting one wall grey and all the others white, I ended up with re-painting every wall 3 times before I was satisfied :p
When everything was dry I moved in a new bed and I mounted a wooden board at the wall in front my desk so I could hang up my vinyl singles.
The biggest challenge I had was to figure out what I wanted to hang on my wall behind my bed. At first nothing, after that I wanted a big poster from New York in a frame and so on. I couldn’t make up my mind. When I went to the local record shop I saw some Eagles album with good looking album covers (the one’s I had didn’t look all that good). I bought them and asked my dad if he had some frames I could use. He looked and found three identical frames on the attic. With a little help from my dad we made our own framed Eagles albums! The recently bought albums look really good in them! And know my room is finally finished! Tell me what you think of it ;)
