Yes, this tour is shaping up to be an odd one. No NYC, I hope they don't consider Bethel to be close enough.
me too! :(
I strongly considered Bethel, but it wasn't gonna work out for me for a number of reasons. It's certainly not CLOSE ENOUGH to NYC!
and I have still never seen them :sigh:

My big question--is Bernie rehearsing with them? If that's indeed a go, how long until they formally announce it? (Maybe they're waiting to see how the rehearsal process goes? If the magic is still there? That he and Glenn can get along...? :))

I went to an Eric Clapton concert a couple of months ago. In his tour program, it listed every show/concert that he had done in his 50 years of performing. Pages & pages of solo shows, Yardbirds, Cream, guest appearances, everything! It had the date and place of each show. It was AMAZING & I would love, love, LOVE for the Eagles to do this for their History of the Eagles tour. It would be so fascinating!

I'm happy about this, if it's true.
As for the program I would like to see something rather more comprehensive than just a couple of photos of each member (not that there is anything wrong with that...); it's a History tour, so we need a few pages going back through the years. An entire list of tour dates would certainly appeal to those who like to fill in the gaps because we occasionally have enquiries here about when or where a particular show took place.

Wow, that is incredible! I wish I could see Clapton's concert list. I have seen him many times, but I don't remember the dates of each show. I have some concert stubs, but not all of them. I bet I could pick them out on a listing like that...Do you know if it is posted anywhere on the internet? Would love to see it....And YES the Eagles should do that, especially since this tour is the History of the Eagles!

Oh, to be a fly on the wall at these rehearsals....After so many years of basically the same setlist and banter, getting an entirely new set-up--including the new video inserts from the doc--it has to be a big task to get it all humming smoothly, so say nothing of "learning" old, lesser-played songs again....

That last paragraph was from a year ago and we since have heard that Bernie IS rehearsing with them and I want to believe that but who really knows, I guess.
I just don't know how you would do a "History of the Eagles Tour" without at least a member or 2. :headscratch: It's not like some groups that have had dozens of members over a shorter amount of time.
This paragraph in that article just saddens me:
Leaving the Eagles (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/artists/eagles) is like leaving the Mob: once you're gone, that's it. There's no coming back. There are no second chances. There's no reunion concert. There's not even a guest appearance at a single gig. "They came to Los Angeles for a show a few years ago and I asked if I could sit in," former bassist Randy Meisner told Rolling Stone in 2008. "I didn't get much response. I thought it would be nice to sit in with [current bassist] Timothy B. Schmit and sing 'Take It to the Limit,' but they pretty much gave me a 'no' in a round-about way. I can't blame them. They have to keep their band the way it is."
What would of hurt to let him sit in for one or two songs. It probably would have meant the world to him to do that. And I would love to know just how they gave him a "no in a round-about way". And yet Randy justifies it with the last line. Just more proof of what a great guy Randy was/is.

Randy seems so sweet. Sad that he didn't get to sit in with them at that time.
The mob analogy is pretty funny. I wonder (if Bernie is truly going to do some shows) if he is thinking "just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in" :)

This is a great idea in theory, but if I lost my credit card or had some other reason for the bank to issue a new one, and they always give a new number when you do that, I'd go crazy!!! $200+ is way too much to spend and not be able to get in the door!
VIP does a similar thing in that they're non-transferable and you have to show ID to get your ticket. Of course, those are already over face value, by far. Still cheaper than the same tix on StubHub though.

i've done paperless tickets and I've gotten better side seats than I've ever gotten during a regular onsale. It's a great system, if nothing comes up to prevent you from going to the show.
As far as losing a card, having a new number, etc. As long as you have ID and the ticket confirmation printout and replacement credit card, I think you would be fine. You would just have to go to the box office. But you could always call TM ahead of the concert to let them know if that happened, and see what they say.
The biggest drawback to me is that if your plans change, you could be out of luck. But at the arena, they basically swipe your card through the reader and print out the tickets. I've never once had them ask me for ID. So if you really couldn't use them, you could always sell the tickets to someone you trusted to use your credit card :)

Scalpers definitely have ways around it but I will say that I've gotten seats that I would have never gotten in a regular onsale. Side sections right next to the stage that never seem to be available on the sale day. It's worked great every time I've done it. If you're going to a show in your hometown, where you know you could probably give someone you trusted your credit card if something came up, I'd go for it. If you are traveling, you do always take the chance that you would lose your $ if you couldn't make the trip.
It has its drawbacks, but when I've used it (probably 12-15 times) it has worked out really well. I've never had a problem.
Hope that helps!

Toyota Center in Houston has been using a ticketless option for way over a year now. I LOVE IT for the fact that I do not have to keep up with a ticket! At TC it is called Flashseats. HOWEVER it does NOT prevent scalping! You can go to Flashseats.com and buy tickets and the prices are inflated. It works like StubHub. You can buy, sell or transfer Flashseats.

05-31-2013, 01:06 PM
It is because Flashseats allows it. I sold a ticket that I had for a Rockets game once to a co-worker. He had to set up an account on Flashseats and then we did the sell and when he went to TC, he just presented his credit card at the door. Flashseats does not require both the credit card and photo ID. It works really well EXCEPT it does not prevent scalping. Row 4 tickets for Fleetwood Mac Wednesday night are selling for $900.00 a piece right now. I forgot to mention the one good thing about Flashseats is that you can actually bid on the tickets. So if I do not want to pay $900.00 for the FM seats, I could bid $500.00 and see if the seller accepts. Most of the time as the event gets closer, they will accept lower. That part is like EBay. I have in fact seen transactions take place right in front of the door. Sorry for the long explanation! :)

I know it's not feasible, but I rather enjoy envisioning them practicing in Glenn's garage, like some high school band. ;). Totally not possibly and not true, I know, but to picture Don and his drums crammed in by Glenn's lawnmower, and Joe having to lean his guitars against Otis' bikes...to cute not to dream for a second. :)
Someone on Tumblr bought this up and I'm curious to hear theories from y'all: I know both Joe and Don have floated the notion that band members will only be on the stage for their respective era--hence, Bernie will be on for the albums he was on, then Joe, then Timothy...Now, to be it sort of seems like a waste a great talent not to have them all jam (I'm sure we'll get that in an encore, though) and a waste of Timothy's beautiful high voice and harmonies. I just don't get what they're going to do for Randy's parts in the "Eagles/Desperado/On The Border" era. Yes, they can pitch them down for any of the other three to sing, but it seems like a waste of Timmy not to bring him out. And there are certain "deep cut" songs of those three albums I associate with Randy that I just can't imagine them omitting simply because they're too high for Don, Glenn or Bernie to sing. (Midnight Flyer?)
I'm just curious to know how they're going to handle reconfiguring everything...?

I have absolutely no idea, so this is pure speculation, but IF Bernie does make a guest appearance, I'm thinking he will come out and do a song or two from his era, and other than that it will be 'business as usual', with all current Eagles on stage at all times. I know this doesn't gel with what Joe and Don have said, but really, what else can they do?

That's what I think. It just isn't possible to make it conform with the lineups for each era.
As for them having a 'jam'; I'm afraid this is the Eagles we are talking about, and doing Meisner's songs; I can't see it.

I agree. I kind of see it like the KISS unplugged in the 90s when they brought Peter Criss and Ace Frehley out for a couple of songs. But their current line-up was onstage the whole time.

I really don't know how to answer that.
I am well aware that a lot of people will say Take It To The Limit or another Meisner song even though he made it clear that he didn't want to sing those songs. That leaves Bernies' songs. The idea that he could sing a song originally sung by Don or Glenn while they were on stage with him I can't even envisage. So if I had to choose, I suppose Train Leaves Here This Morning.

No. Sorry. Not What Do I Do With My Heart. BOML possibly but I very much doubt that Don's fans would want that which is why I didn't mention it.
As PM said if you want to start a separate thread so that it isn't linked to speculation about what he will sing on tour, go ahead. Because the reality is that he isn't going to sing a song sung by Don or Glenn during an Eagles tour.

Well this is one Timothy fan that doesn't want to see anyone do BOML other than Don either. Gads, I can't imagine Don NOT doing it. One of my favorite songs and Don's vocals is the main reason.
For the record, I have to agree with the notion that there is no way they can pull off just having the members from their respective albums on stage. Not that I am planning on seeing them on this tour anyways, but if I were to put out that much money to do so, only to find out Timothy would only be on that stage for songs from LR & LROOE I would come unglued. I'm just not sure why everyone is so convinced that the Eagles (current line-up) are so awful for not including Randy. How do we know? Maybe he was asked and he decided he'd rather do whatever he's doing? He never really sought the limelight and now that he's, what, 67? Perhaps he wants no part of it now, either.

I agree. It made me sad too when I read it. They should have welcomed him with open arms. The fans would have loved it and I think Timmy would have enjoyed it as well. I wish I could say that I would have been as forgiving as Randy, but I don't think I would have been.
I just can't see them welcoming Randy back with open arms. That's just not how the Eagles operate. For Randy to do a song with them, they would require weeks of rehearsals. They are perfectionists. I don't know if Randy's voice is up to it. If he backed out of doing TITTL in '77, thinking he couldn't hit the notes....how is he going to hit them 30 years later??? Not happening!

As far as Tim singing Don or Glenn's songs, I don't want to hear it. I guess he could do some of them at one of his solo shows, but not with the Eagles. Z - One thing that may help you overcome your uneasiness is to try not to think of the big picture, but think of it in smaller segments. That helps make your goal feel more achievable. For example, don't think of your trip as driving all the way from A to E - instead focus on just driving from A to B; after that you can just focus on driving from B to C, and then C to D, and so on. When you do that, it doesn't seem so overwhelming.

Is Randy M in poor health? I've seen items lately that he was hospitalized. Perhaps his health would prevent him from performing again with the Eagles. Or is he upset about the rejection in 2008?
AEW21
06-08-2013, 12:44 AM
Randy's health hasn't been the best the past few years, and I think that precludes him performing, not only with the Eagles, but in any capacity, solo or otherwise. If you visit his thread here, Soda describes correspondence she had with his wife this past spring, detailing respiratory problems he was grappling with, in and out of the hospital...
I'm not sure if any bad blood exists between Randy and the band after all these years. Not saving they're best buddies, but I think there's a peaceable truce. Time (and record royalties from Best of...) heals all wounds. ;) If he was in better health and still in good singing voice, would he be part of the tour? Who knows? I'd like to think the invite would have been extended if he was in better health, but I'm sure it all ultimately rests on Don and Glenn's decisions.
I'm fairly sure Bernie was picked a) because he's still in good musical skill and voice and b) his name isn't Don Felder, ;) but I don't think they'd have picked him if too much bad blood and grudges still remained. They would sooner just skip that drama. The fact it's all still proceeding in rehearsals makes me think everyone is coexisting well enough...

I totally get it, Z. I think it makes for a great fantasy topic! I can understand on some level why people think certain songs 'shouldn't be messed with' but, actually, I am often surprised by my reactions to cover versions. For example, Desperado is such a Don song for me - I've always thought that husky, soulful voice fits perfectly with the lyrics and I couldn't imagine anyone else singing it - but I have to say that Glenn's version that he performs live is beautiful. Not necessarily better, but very, very good. They're just different. Think about JD Souther's great versions of Best of My Love and Doolin' Dalton... We all have our preferences but I don't think that just because we like the way the song was sung originally that it should preclude any mention of anyone else singing it. If Don had sung Tequila Sunrise, it would have been a different song, but would it have been worse? I don't think so. Just different. There is a tendency to see songs as sacred, but the reality is that songs are always evolving in some way. I have been pleasantly surprised by many cover versions in the past. The original will always exist - it won't be tainted by anybody else's attempt to sing it.

There are times I wish the guys and their management were a bit more tech-savvy and kept that website a bit better-maintained and current and a better representation of the band and it's music and history, etc. They could do so much more with it than merely use it to hawk merchandise and post tour dates.
As in for the upcoming tour--they could have a blog on "insider" tidbits on rehearsals and behind-the-scenes photos. Wouldn't have to be "spoilers" by any means, but just vague, feel-good blurbs. Even to update the site during the tour with set lists (not that they'll change ;) ) or photos on the road would be nice.
I know a majority of the band is pretty tech-phobic (maybe Joe can tweet fun things during the tour!) but I 'd think their management would know the value of a good, content-rich website in this day and age, especially before a big tour...?

Firstly, welcome Skpx.
Now to answer your question, unfortunately the Eagles aren't too good on the 'Meet and Greet' front, although I remember Joe hosting one a few years ago. I guess they are just too BBF with pre concert preparations.
However us Borderers are a much more outgoing and sociable group! In my own experience in Niagara Falls in 2011 (GF solo concerts) we all met up in various ways over the two days that we spent there. These included doing the 'Maid of the Mist' tour on the Wednesday and also the Hard Rock Cafe in Niagara Falls. We also met up for other meals and drinks before/after the shows. Several of us were in the same hotel too which made it easier.
My daughter and I met up with Mrs Frey and GEF in London in 2008 at the opening gig of the LROOE tour and I believe Steph was there too, although it was Belfast in 2009 before we would meet.
And once again in LA in 2012 (again GF solo show) I met up with Soda and FP.
I know there have been many more Border get-to-gethers that other Borderers have been to in San Jose, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Oklahoma and other cities for both Solo and Group gigs. It tends to be very informal with the emphasis on 'The More The Merrier'. Its all part of the fun. While my main aim in going to the NF and LA gigs was obviously to see Glenn  doing solo gigs, the experience was definitely enhanced by having such a wonderful group to hang out with
I'm sure if you are going to one or more of the upcoming gigs you will find that at least a few of us will be able to meet up with you.

whenever there is more than one Borderer going who feels comfortable doing so, we typically meet up either before or after the show (or both). To find out who is going to a show, check its pre-concert anticipation thread - each show gets its own. Then, in that thread, ask about meet-ups and the rest is taken care of via PM.

This article from June 10 was posted over in the Don Felder thread. In the fourth paragraph, the author gives some pretty specific information about Bernie's role in the upcoming shows - "an abbreviated mid-show set." I wonder if this is this new, specific, confirmed info, or is he just figuring that at some point during the show Bernie will play, but it won't be for the entire show, and it won't be at the beginning or the end, and it will be short? They could have Bernie do How Long with them since he did it with them originally and they have footage of it. Just a random thought. All my thoughts are random these days.

Just heard from one of my gear friends in the amp business that Joe is getting a new guitar rig for the tour and he's making the amp! He's taking it to Joe today at Eagles rehearsals. Lucky SOB. :hilarious:

Haha I will ask... He's a great guy. I have one of his amps and I love it to death. They are awesome so I know Joe will love it too. And it's nice to see Joe trying new guitar gear. I wish I could set down with him and show him all of the new gear I've discovered that gets those classic sounds with less noise/problems and just discuss guitar equipment with him.

**Sigh**. I had told HH earlier this week that new dates would be announced for November some time this week. How did I know that? Murphy's Law!! I won't know until early next week where I'll be or how much flexibility I'll have, and tickets go on sale Monday morning. As I mentioned in the 'what's happening in your life thread', I have a lot of decisions to make.
There are five concerts on this list that I had hoped to do. Who knew they'd stuff 2 dates in NYC in the same leg as dates in Florida? I suppose Tampa is out since I'm still certain that if I went there I wouldn't leave (I liked it when I was there last November for Glenn's solo show).
I had determined that if they did a concert on my birthday I'd go no matter what, but they seem to be taking the 5th off. Poor Glenn will have to work on his birthday...

Not that he's asked for my opinion, but he can release it in October and do a bit of a tour in December? I still think Glenn has all of August to do some shows, but he apparently has other plans. I suppose they have this wild and crazy idea that they should rest a bit. :D

I forgot to mention last evening... TT forwarded me an email she got. JD and the Straight Shots are opening for the Eagles and listed all the shows in the first tour leg.
This summer, we're hitting the road with the Eagles on their "History of the Eagles" tour, which kicks off on July 6 in Louisville, Kentucky with 11 shows scheduled through July 25. We can't be more excited to be joining up with our friends again!

No worries, TT. Last show in Louisville, JD came on around 7 PM and played while the crowd was shuffling in. His playing in no way impacted the 3-hour set list. He wasn't at all bothered that he didn't have the attention of half the audience. I'm trying to remember where else I saw him open for them for their 3-hour show but I'm not sure. You know all this JD bashing is really too much.. They are a great band... I listen to their music every day. :lie:
-------
It is truly a hobby thing/dream thing for JD. Evidently being a CEO isn't enough - he wants to be a rockstar as a well. :hilarious: He needs to stick to being a CEO... Or play in his own house or something. I don't like to bash other musicians but damn - anyone who hears that and doesn't think they need a lot of, um, work to be a decent BAR BAND (not even professional touring band) it's someone who's music tastes I'd not put a lot of validity in. LOL.
The only reason JD can do this and tour (especially with a top notch musical band like the Eagles) is because he's a CEO and gets friendships with real rockstars. He has the money to do it. Anyone else trying to start an opening touring band that sounds like that would be laughed out of the audition.
JD himself said it best - they are the soundcheck... Just make sure the PA works. It's a insult to other great opening bands to call them an opening band.

Not that I'm aware of. Family connections, maybe, straight money, no.
Having heard these kinds of comments, or read as the case may be, I was surprised at Atlantic City that while I wouldn't say he was good, he wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. That too. I agree. So many great bands under the radar that will never get a chance. It was definitely a lot easier AND harder back in the 70s. You had to work and pay your dues, but you would have a much better chance of getting picked up by a record label then than you would now just for being a great band/artist. Now it's money, it's looks, and it's all about the stars. If you look the part OR have high influence, you can be an artist. Just autotune/digitally fix the voice so they sound passable. There is one pop artist that comes to mind but I wouldn't dare mention it as it'd probably get me on a voodoo doll by some people. :D It saddens me. It's a lot different now, things have changed and IMO - not for the better.

I'm really looking forward to hearing those songs and a long set. As well as watching Joe (and maybe Bernie) play guitar. The band has always been a guitar band to me, and while I love the vocals and think they are the best in soft(er) rock n' roll, it's for me been always about the great guitar dueling and the great lyrical guitar playing. So I'm very excited to see that again. Joe is really the star of the show.
I believe my tickets are near Glenn/Tim's side of the stage. That should be fun, last time I was on Joe's side. And being 4th row and 6'8 you can see just about the whole stage looking straight ahead.

Interesting... The Black Crowes are a great live band - I just saw them and I have to say it was by far the best concert I've ever seen of any show I've been to.

I watched the documentary yesterday and did this - wrote down the Eagles songs I heard as they were featured. I might have missed a couple. It was harder than I thought! But I've broken it down to two categories, one where the Eagles actually play the song in performances or rehearsals, and the other where the song, or part of it is featured as background music. Note that some songs are in both categories. The number after the song represents how many times that song was featured in that category.

I guess this was informative. The only thing I noticed as I was making this list is that they didn't feature In The City once, and yet featured Pretty Maids three times. Of course, I did not list any solo songs, or songs that weren't on a record or album ( eg. Silver Dagger, aka My Daddy Was a Handsome Devil.)

That is interesting-seeing how many times they used the song especially so, TITTL being the big winner. But I'm not sure what it proves. :hilarious:

I know, right? I said I was going to try to do this when VA posted a blip from Glenn's site about how they would be performing some songs featured in the doc. I decided to really pay attention to what songs those were. So basically, it could be anything.

As I have said, there is one extremely glaring omission from that list, although it was featured in the concert video (which I still haven't watched). A song which was their third number one single & won a Grammy and which is my favourite Eagles song against all odds.

This is going to sound awful but I haven't been in the right mood. I haven't even watched HOTE through twice yet.

I might understand. I'm not sure you are a fan of 70's Glenn, but he looks great, is very much in charge, and the music is magnificent. I'd get in the mood really quick, if I were you. ;-)

The truth is I am unable to rhapsodise about that period on a personal level the way others can & I feel guilty about it. I can't explain it any better than that. I really should just concentrate on the music & try & put myself back to when the album came out, before I had any 'favourites' (although actually, I did. My favourite was Felder).

Yes, just enjoy the music. This concert DVD almost takes your breath away...that's how good the performances are.

I have no idea where to put this, but this place seems as good as any--when Glenn is culling from his "Best of.." solo hits to play during the HOTE tour, I truly hope "You Belong to the City" and "The one You Love" make it. Really adore that latter one. Yes, "Smuggler's Blues" is fun, too, but please no The H Is O. ;)
As for his lead vocals oN Eagles hits not oft played--would be nice for "Ol' 55" and "After The Thrill Is Gone" to sneak in there...

AEW, you've got some nice choices there. Ol'55 and ATTIG are both acceptable in my book!
As far as solos, I'll let him decide and surprise me!

We have a thread about what songs they should play in the On Tour forum, but my internet connection is so slow that it is impossible for me to link to it.
I admire the huge assumption you have made that Glenn is going to do solo songs. Well done. I wish I could agree with you.
I take it you have not heard the rearranged version of THIO. The Eagles did do the original version a long time ago.
ATTIG & Ol'55 are duets, but then I want him to do WDIDWMH, and that is a duet.

As far as the concert DVD. Let me put it this way. The doc was very good and I've watched it a LOT... But the concert DVD makes it for me. That alone is worth the price of admission. I watch it every couple of days. Seeing Hotel California played on the Hotel California tour is surreal. Can't imagine actually being there.

The important thing though Julie, is to not feel guilty about it. How you feel is how you feel. It's okay if you don't get off on watching the 70's stuff. Just watch for the performances.
I hadn't really watched many Eagles videos from that era, and I think I had convinced myself that they were not 'as professional' or as good vocally back then. I just assumed the newer videos would be better musically, but I was blown away by these performances, and the control they all have over their vocals.

i think for the eagles it always was their harmonys together that made them famous

I loved the concert video too. Although I had seen a few very early era videos, as well as the Houston stuff, the quality of this video and the camerawork were a revelation to me in the way it presents their vocal abilities. It is a stunning piece of concert footage. I thought they all came off really well, but the richness and sweetness of Glenn's voice shone through in particular to me. Although certainly Randy and Don were incredible on TITTL and BOML. Great, great video and their harmonies were just wonderful.

Aww, don't rain on my parade--he's gotta have at least one or two solo songs to sing, no? ;). I keep reading part if the show is supposed to have them singing solo hits, so here's to hoping that this totally redone show is less Don-Henley heavy with hits. ;). (I love Don, but c'mon, let Glenn sneak another one in!)

I just got to thinking of something - I wonder how the sitting on the road cases came about?!
I'm thinking they just did it in rehearsal because those places are full of road cases and amps and they just decided they liked it and thought it'd be cool live.
Regardless, it's a nice touch IMO. It's so laid back and somewhat informal, a rarity for the Eagles IMO. I love it.

Well, as you now know, it was certainly less Henley heavy. But Glenn was never in my opinion going to replace Henley's solo songs with his. He has not sung any solo songs with the Eagles since F1.

And I'm glad they are leaving out most solo songs. This is the Eagles!

Glenn said the sitting on boxes thing was inspired by their 1971 rehearsals - when they were first getting started, they used to do that. They were deliberately trying to duplicate the early days. SO COOL.

I'm happy that they left out most of the solo songs as well. I think that where this is the history of the "Eagles" tour it's better that they do "band" songs. JMHO :)
