WOW!!!!! Thank you soooooo much, alexandranick!!! You're an angel  and I'm in heaven!! I love that but then I love 'ye olde' country style music anyway. It might not be to everyone's taste but you have to admit Don's vocals are amazing.
P.S. jms, I agree! Don could sing the alphabet and it would sound sexy :faint:

Thanks so much.
However Parton is not to my taste & I am not crazy about the song. Don looks very good in it. Funny how there was first a colour, then a monochrome video, just like Glenn's two AH videos.
So it looks like Don will be performing on 'The Late Show' with Stephen Colbert on CBS on Monday September 21 !!
Wonder what song he'll sing ??

I am beginning to think the reason for the week delay in releasing the new album (from the 18th to the 25th) was because the latter week all the new shows start up again for the season. Lordy I hope he doesn't appear on The View.
dvr set for Cobert for the 21st. Oh wow...Dr Who starts this week!

I wonder if Don might do the Today Show or Good Morning America?

Finally, I found the correct exclusive tracks from the Target edition of CASS COUNTY:
1)It Doesn't Matter To The Sun---I think he's done this one in concert before
2)Here Come Those Tears Again---I'm hoping this is a cover of the great Jackson Browne song.
These are now listed on the Target website.

Thanks shun. I'm enjoying listening to Don's Cass County. Favourite so far She Sang Hymns Out Of Tune. Has a hint of Norwegian Wood about it. :)
According to the ASCAP website, https://www.ascap.com/Home/ace-title-search/index.aspx Timothy B. did indeed co-write Waiting Tables with Don, Stan and Steuart. :)

I enjoyed the album. I love it. Other than the other 5 songs(not counting them) I love Bramble Rose(didn't like Mick's part. Sorry. It sounded weird when he started singing), Words Can Break Your Heart, Too Much Pride, Younger Man(I love the lyrics to the song), No, Thank You(I'm a huge Vince Gill fan and always wanted my two favorite singers to sing together. I got my wish. They blended great) and Where I Am Now(a little rocking. He and Trisha sound great on this song).

I had to laugh about this. I was 12 & in the throes of my boy crush Donny when my big brother smashed my Osmond Brothers cassette tape & replaced with with his turntable & EAGLES album. I honestly never looked back at Donny after I heard Don sing.

I always say I was born in the wrong decade(born 1980). All my favorite bands and singers are from the 70s. Its funny that I like two singers with the name of Donald. Donny Osmond and Don Henley. Take A Picture Of This has spent the last few weeks at the top of the BBC Radio 2 playlist. It's still there. As we get close to release date, Cass County is also this weeks Album Of The Week. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/playlist
I think it means Janice Long will be required to play a track from it, throughout the week, during her nightly show.
I don't think Janice is very fond of the Eagles. I'm tempted to tune in. :nahnah:

Interesting that Don's daughter is doing his hair & makeup.
I went back and read the article. I don't know how I missed that. How cool is that. Don could pick anyone to go on the road to do his hair and makeup, but he picked his daughter. She gets to have daddy time with him when he's not on stage. I wonder if that's what Annabel wants to do for a living.

I don't know what products she used on him but whatever she used took years off of his face. That also explains his 'poffy' hair. Isn't it the higher the hair the closer to God big with southern women? Guess she isn't in college.

Isn't she college age? Guess maybe she is taking a break.
I would love to know what products she used on him because she took years off of him. Dang I need those. Wonder if she is responsible for his 'pouffy' hair. Don't southern women say the higher the hair the closer to God!

Is the took years off his face good or bad? With Don having thin hair, she probably trying to make it fuller.

Yes she is. I think she turns 20 in December. I think the lighting was bad at the Americana words because he didn't look tan in that Gettyimages pictures. The lighting was too dark. IF he had on makeup during the Country Music Hall of Fame interview, his makeup was great there.

Well age is what it is, unfortunately!!! I think it is a good thing. IMHO he looked so much better during the TV portion of the show than the still photo. I am fine with his hair as long as he doesn't go red again. For 68 he looks amazing. Wish I knew what she used. It is neat that he is helping his daughter.
Let me add...Don could sing twinkle twinkle little star in a speedo & a Weird Al wig and I would love it.

Despite Take A Picture Of This being put forward as the lead track from Cass County and it already spending a few weeks at the top of the BBC Radio 2 and Radio Scotland playlists, it's not, as I type, in the top 5, Don Henley songs being played on the BBC.
Current Top 5 (22/09/15):
1: Waiting Tables
2: The Cost Of Living
3: Words Can Break Your Heart
4: Younger Man
5: Praying For Rain
Dirty Laundry is no.6. The aforementioned Take A Picture Of This is way down at no. 10.

Nice pictures of Don. I like the first one. HE didn't wear his plaid shirt. All black with a tan/brownish jacket. Don look purty.
Its funny we didn't know about this one like Nashville. :hilarious:
I'm not surprised you almost didn't recognise Will. I've said it before, his beard is just horrible. It makes him look so scruffy, not to mention, old. I just have to console myself by thinking how gorgeous he is underneath the facial hair.

Too many musicians, is what I thought. Too many backing singers. Coloured hair & a waistcoat (vest) with a chain on it. Other than that.... the song is OK & will no doubt grow on me. I will not comment about Trump except to say that yes, he is covered extensively outside the US too.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/music/2015/09/23/don-henley-cass-county-feels-like-home/72575198/
However, here's the part that I find most interesting:
Also, Henley and Glenn Frey are continuing to develop a Broadway production based on the Eagles catalog. "That's tricky stuff, that musical thing," Henley says. "Several people that I highly respect have tried and failed. We want to learn more than we know now about the process and how to make it work." While such a musical would take years to get to the stage, "that's somewhere down the pike.
I don't know how a Broadway production of Eagles songs would work out.
Freypower
09-23-2015, 05:53 PM
My own view is that Henley & Frey would be much better employed at producing some new Eagles music rather than once again milking every last drop out of what is after all a somewhat limited catalogue. You may say 'well surely there are enough songs that would fit into a musical'. Perhaps. In my view they have taken the existing catalogue as far as they can go with it.

The preview answers the question of whether he played guitar on the album; no. He didn't play drums either - I would have thought that went without saying. He only ever played drums on five of his solo songs. Phil Collins he is not.

I could not agree more. I keep hoping there is another Eagles album in them, or at least, a few songs on either another dvd or live album. The thought of the Eagles having no new music ever (as a band) really saddens me.

Phil Collins he is not.
I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, FP but Phil Collins is no Don Henley nor Peter Gabriel for that matter as far as I'm concerned.
Don suffers from a bad back which has prevented him from playing drums for years and as someone who has a chronic neck problem for the last year I understand his suffering. Don has never attempted to pretend he's a great drummer - in his most recent interview (which is great btw) with Charlie Rose he admits he's a better singer and songwriter than drummer and I maintain he strums the guitar mainly as a prop because he doesn't know what to do with his hands. As he has said himself, in Nashville there are supreme musicians practically tripping you up so he wanted to have the best which in no way detracts from his own talents.

A Couple of days ago the, Vintage Vinyl News website, was bigging up the chart promise of 4 veteran artists: David Gilmour, Keith Richards, Ryan Adams (without the B) and Alabama, whilst prominently displaying the, Amazon Top 20 by Veteran Artists, which had Don's, Cass County clearly placed as Number One.
They've rectified their gaff:
http://www.vintagevinylnews.com/2015/09/another-big-week-for-new-releases-by.html

02 New Order - Music Complete
03 Los Lobos - Gates Of Gold
04 Tony Bennett & Bill Charlap - The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern
05 Anderson Ponty Band (Jon Anderson & Jean-Luc Ponty) - Better Late Than Never
06 Shawn Colvin - Uncovered
07 Widespread Panic - Street Dogs
08 John Scofield - Past Present
09 Clint Black - On Purpose
10 John McLaughlin & the 4th Dimension - Black Light

Waking up to an email from Spotify saying "Don Henley- Cass County is now available" is a nice thing! Unfortunately, I won't be able to give the album a listen until this afternoon. Soda, I hope that your Target has the album. (Or doesn't sell out)
So I am waiting for Target to open this AM to purchase my 4th copy of Cass Country (1 I tunes preorder, 2 with Concert Tickets, and one Target) Because Target has "It don't matter to the Sun" The One song I wanted! When I go in there is an "Old, Grubby, Toothless guy at the CD rack... Asking "where is the Don Henley CD? So I go to look @ something else cause I don't want anybody to think we are together... or that I am That Old! (Even tho I am);-).LOL
Checking out we were the only two people... Both with Don Henley CDs.... He wanted to visit about Music.... I had to ask him to Please move so I could Pay and get to work.....
First two purchases in my Local Target this morning were Dons CD...
So I have a brand new 2015 Cadillac and guess what NO CD Player!

And just to be clear again, there is also the 18 song version that is available only at Target. The two bonus songs are It Don't Matter to the Sun, which features Stevie Nicks and Here Come Those Tears Again with Vince Gill and Alison Krauss on backup harmonies.
I stopped at Target on my way home and picked up the CD with the two bonus tracks. They're both really good. I just bought a new Toyota a few weeks ago and, fortunately, they are still including CD players in their cars, so I was able to get about halfway through on my ride home; then I listened to the remainder of it when I got home.

Walmart had the deluxe CD sold out(which is good I guess) online. The website didn't say if they had it on my Walmart. I called Target this morning to see if they had it. We have two here in Jackson. One Target had me on hold for 10 minutes. The other one had only 2 copies. The salesperson asked me if I wanted him to hold it. I said yes. I started looking for Don's album and I didn't see it. So somebody bought the other copy while I had the copy the salesperson hold for me.

"I have three teenagers at home — there's one of them," he said, gesturing toward his daughter, Annabel, who is along with her father on the road to tend to his hair and makeup. "Being their father is extremely important to me. I've already been gone more than I'd like to be gone. So when I'm home, I try to stay engaged. And that took priority. Yep shun - I did notice Will played drums on the album. Don sheltered his kids from the public eye when they were younger, but now that they are getting older, I guess he's letting them make some choices about how much they want to be in the limelight. True, Funk 50. Some children of famous stars sometimes go into the business. This is different. Like IABAD said. Don rarely says anything about his children and I thought of Don of trying to keep them out of business and not follow in his footsteps since their are some liars and bad people in the entertainment business. I think I remembered an interview from last week when he said he didn't want Will (he didn't say Annabel or Sophie) to get into a profession that has something to do with copyright. I need to find that interview.
It's nice of him to let his 2 oldest do a little more. We might see or hear a little more of his children as they get older. Annabel might want to do hair and makeup for a living. So she started with her father which Don could had easily gotten anybody.
I was surprised to see his 17 year old playing on his father's album(depending on when Don started recording No, Thank You. He could had been 15 or 16) or Annabel going on tour with her dad to do his hair and makeup. I'm glad he did do that. I really do want to know how much of the drum playing is Will and how much of it is of the other guy, but it sounds good.

He said that about not wanting his son to go into areas concerning copyright during the Billy Joel interview. I did read somewhere recently where Don did say Will was a better drummer than he was.
I was a bit surprised that his daughter is possibly taking time away from college to do his hair/make-up. Perhaps she is the one responsible for plaid flannel not being so prominent thus far. He has however gotten a bit too much milage on the black & white dot shirt. I am not complaining but I saw it at least 3 times this past week while he was in NYC.

Thanks for posting that article, JMS. It was a great read. Sad to hear Don talking about not having his voice much longer. I wonder if he might ever publish his poetry? Ever since reading the 1979 Rolling Stone article on the band, I'd been wondering whether Don's mother was still living. Now I know, and I understand the leaving the things as the were thing.
As for not wanting to share every detail in this current generation being a southern thing, I agree. I have family who are at least a decade younger who think that same way Don does.

While my youngest son has all the social media apps he seldom posts. My oldest son, sigh, I can not tell you the amount of times I have had to call him to remove pictures. It's fine with having a few pictures of you & your friends celebrating, you can not appear professional with multiple pictures posing with HUGE drinks. I seldom post on FB. I only have Facebook. I never got the hang of twitter(don't have any friends who would follow me). I hate the idea of "selfies". (I've taken about 4 of those total in the past 3 years). I rarely, if ever, post photos of myself because I honestly hate having my photo taken. The ones from the family reunion were the first photos of me since December 2014 (GED graduation, I had no choice).
My grandmother passed back in early August. My uncle(who lived with her) has hardly touched anything of hers, except for some clothing that my mom wanted. He can't bring himself to do it. It's too much on him. The memories that come back cause him too much heartache. Her room is exactly the way that it was when she died, and I don't expect it to change. Because of this, I can understand why Don doesn't change anything, especially since, from what I gathered, he was very close to his mom..

I've only seen Don's kids in the promotional video for Inside Job that's available on DHO.
Well I would follow you! My media name is the same on here.
My mom took 5 years to throw out my dad's clothes. She threw them out when she decided she wanted the extra closet space. Going through so many memories. It was harder with my Mom because I spent so much time with her. My sister & I spent a long weekend doing it. We still laugh at the amount of cool whip/butter containers. She bought 3 storage cabinets to store her "collection".

Well, I did manage to find the 'deluxe' version of the cd at my local Best Buy on Saturday. I was duped by 'deluxe' and thought it was the one with Stevie's song on it. I didn't realize you had to go to Target to get the 'super deluxe' version and kept thinking as I was listening, where is Stevie?. :weep: But, who knows when I would make it to a Target! Does anyone know if we'll be able to download the 2 extra songs? I hope!
I've only listened a couple times so far and haven't decided yet which songs I like best. I think most all are keepers!

I think it's a great idea. It's going back to the times when you'd expect bands to play songs from their latest album rather than just the greatest hits. Don's setting a good example.

I'm kind of torn. I think that it's good that Don will be focusing on Cass County for this tour, but I would think that he'd leave in a few Eagles songs. Witchy Woman would sound great mixed in with some CC songs, I think. (Of course, I won't be seeing any of his dhows so my opinion is kind of pointless)

It's going to remain "exclusive" for a while - maybe a year - but hopefully after that, it will be distributed through other stores and outlets such as iTunes. It all depends on what Henley's camp agreed to when they made the deal with Target.
What really annoys me is that you can't buy it online from Target's site and have it shipped to you. In-store pickup only. I know, I know, they do it to get you to come to the store in the hope that you'll buy other stuff while you're there, but it feels like they're holding the music hostage. Getting you physically into Target is more important than giving people who don't live near a Target an opportunity to legally purchase the music. Why? Because the music is secondary to Target; to them, Don Henley's art is nothing more than a wiggling worm on a hook.
(I say this as someone who drove for over an hour to get to a Target so I could buy one the day of release, and I picked up some nail polish while I was there. Not only that, I actively promoted the Target version to my Stevie fan friends, a Fleetwood Mac website, and on DHO. I prop up the corporate machinery even as I loathe it because I want the music more than I want to "make a statement". Then I feel like a hypocrite. Sometimes I wish I wasn't so self-aware, lol.)

I should go by Walmart to see how many copies they have. I know they had a lot of LROOE CDs. I was so shocked. I think they had 6 or 7 copies and this is what 7 or 8 years after the CD came out. I know the Eagles distribute through Walmart, but after a while it gets hard to find those cds.
The man told me at Target they only get a few copies of each albums. OK. That's stupid. My Walmart seem to not have it from what it said online and Target would not had it if I didn't hold it. They probably get lots of albums other "popular" stars. They probably see Don as this old musicians (they probably calling him a has been) trying to sell an album that won't sell.

I wouldn't use online inventory as an absolute, Shun. When levels get below a certain amount they make the item "unavailable" because there's no way for the internet to catch up with sales in the store. Let's say you buy the CD online, and choose to pick it up in the store. But there's only one copy left. And I pick it up before anyone can come get the one you ordered. Now your order gets cancelled, and that leads to customer disappointment. I would go to the Walmart and check in person.

As Don follows the statement "I can tell them they aren't going to hear any Eagles songs." with "This band is very adaptable and if we want to make a change on the spur of the moment, they can do it. We can change directions at any minute." I'd say an Eagles song or two is not totally out of the question. He's probably preparing the audience, not to come expecting to hear all the hits and to dissuade them from yelling out for Eagles songs.
Don said in a previous interview that he spent about a $million making Cass County and that he doesn't expect it to make a profit, adding that, these days, the profit comes from touring. I get the feeling that the Cass County tour aint going to be a mega bucks affair, either.
I think he'll make more money, in the fullness of time, with the album.
I enjoyed seeing Timothy performing a set list of new songs, with a handful of oldies, I'm sure Don will be great too, with a similar set list. I think his audience will be mature enough not to become disenchanted or even hostile if the set list is not to their liking.

Good point sodascouts, although I can't see a Henley solo tour being more lucrative than another Eagles tour. If the album sinks, I think the tour will go down with it. I'm delighted to say that, that looks unlikely. Cass County is still Amazon's top selling album by a veteran artist.

I’m with you on that one – two of those releases are albums released by a mature and thoughtful artist, the other was a single which became a huge hit through its gimmicky video and dance routines, a song which happened to be in the right place at the right time. I can say a lot more about the two different artists here but ultimately I feel this comparison is irrelevant, sales of albums and singles shouldn’t be directly compared. I don't think it is fair on Stevie Nicks and what she was trying to achieve with her music.
My belief is that good music is music that people connect to and stays with them, and that record sales alone do not reveal this. There are albums that have sold huge numbers of copies but are in retrospect widely seen as disappointing, or that people bought because it was considered ‘cool’ or fashionable to do so at the time. Then there are albums – and I would include an album like Desperado in this category – that weren’t commercially successful, but the people who did get them loved them, and many in cases still love them, and therefore have stood the test of time. If the people who do listen to Cass County love it and it stands up for them over the years, then I feel that is the true measure of success.
Having said that, I do hope that AG95 is correct and I think the promotion will have a positive effect on sales – I’m sure there will be plenty of people who’d like to hear the album but who don’t necessarily follow Henley or the Eagles online and therefore haven’t heard about it or don’t know that it has already been released.

I should've explained what I said in more detail. I'm not expecting CC to sale like that awful song you mentioned. What I meant by "*press and positive reviews will help increase the albums sales" was that casual Eagles/Don Henley fans might come across one of the articles or reviews, who didn't know about the release of Cass County like us hardcores did. The press and positive help get the word out there.
CC has a bit of a limited appeal. It's geared toward adults more, middle aged and older. It's a intellectual country album, something that's rare in this era of country. It's not Blake Shelton talking about "the boys 'round here" or Toby Keith with his "red solo cup" love.. Cass County wouldn't be very popular with country fans who are my age. They want happy, upbeat party songs.
I'm not expecting it to sell millions of copies, but I do expect it to do decent sales at minimum.

I can only speak for myself SteveJoburg, I love Cass County. I think it's one of the best Eagles, solo or band releases ever.
I was originally pretty sceptical, as this pre- album release post, suitably displays;
I love Don and can't stand country music. Would I like a Henley country album? on the evidence so far the answer is no. I'm not enjoying it at all. My opinion of country music stands, my opinion of Don is on the wane.
I really enjoy Glenn's After Hours but Don's Cass County sounds like it could be purgatory. :stunned: :stunned:

One thing I do know, it is quality country music with quality singers and musicians. Would we expect anything less of Don Henley? Nope! I really expect it to do very well for him. It was a pain in the butt to get the songs to my phone. If the CDs that are giving to us free from ordering tickets part of album sells, he could get gold album.
I was looking at some of the places Don is playing at last night just to see how well the tickets were selling. I don't know how accurate it is, but he has sold out in 3 cities. (like I said I don't know how accurate it is because the tickets weren't showing up). At the other shows, their are a lot of seats left, but it was very scattered around the arenas and theater. So this tour could be successful. I really hope its very successful so Don can add a few dates next year.

Thanks guys. The quality of the music and recording is obviously beyond question, as anything DH does will be. I am hoping to find a physical copy here and so far I only have the iTunes download to go on. I had 4 albums on pre-order on iTunes which all came more or less in the same week, the new DH, new David Gilmour, Shawn Colvin and Keith Richards, and the DH was the one of the 4 I seemed to get into the least. I guess I just need to be in the right mood and give it a proper listen. Vinyl definitely is making a comeback. In just over a year's time, I went from thinking "vinyl is old and outdated" to now having a collection that's overflowing(I'm running out of room for storing them. I'm not the only one. People my age are discovering the richness of the sound of vinyl, and people of my mom's age are rediscovering what they grew up with. All in all, I think it's a good thing.
I only have one problem with reissues, it's when they cost more than the original copies. Case in point: Bad Company's Straight Shooter album. Earlier this year, I was in FYE, and they had a used copy of that album for $5 and the new reissue was $30. Despite Bad Company being my favorite band, I just couldn't bring myself to pay $30 for a new copy. (It wasn't the brand new cd/vinyl reissue with the bonus cd or record. That's still on my want list).
Back to CC, the vinyl sounds amazing, just so rich. I'm glad that CC was released on vinyl.
Now, cassettes still have somewhat of a following, but 8-tracks? Most of them, you can't give away!

Frank Ocean turned Hotel California into American Wedding. He's since become a highly respected artist. By dissing Frank Ocean and Kanye West, Don shows a high level of ignorance and alienates a huge potential audience for the Eagles.
Don's been harping on about how he listened to the radio (for free) as a kid. Today's kids don't listen to the radio, they're on YouTube. They are just as much products of their environment as Don is.
Felder should team up with Frank Ocean to produce their own version of American Wedding but I believe Ocean has honoured a request, not to sing it again.

I looked on Billboard, both top 200 and the country charts, no sign of CC at the moment, and they had updated the charts to the week of October 10th.
According to Wikipedia, Don's album is charting fairly well in other countries. (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cass_County_(album), click on charts). It's #7 in the UK and #14 in Ireland.

Cass County is number 7 in the UK album chart (Thanks AG95). Don must be delighted with that. It's exceptional for a country album. It's certainly his highest chart position.
http://www.officialcharts.com/artist/20078/don-henley/
It compares very favourably with Eagles. Hell Freezes Over went no higher than 18.

Don played some UK dates in 1989 in support of The End Of The Innocence which spent 5 weeks in the top 100, with a highest chart position of 48.
It all bodes well for some UK (& Ireland) dates.:smile:

When I access the site, it says "shipping not available" and it only allows in-store pickup. Is yours getting shipped to your home?
Here's what I see when I go to the site:
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b141/glennfreyonline/henleytarget.jpg
If they're not shipping, those of us who don't live near Target still have to make the drive.
If they're shipping in some states but not others... well then WTH is that about???
Soda, I got that "shipping not available" right after the release date (although it had been available right before). I was kicking myself for not ordering online, but I was so annoyed, I kept checking back, and it became available again. While I don't actually have it in my hands, it is enroute to my home, via tracking information. Maybe they have limited supplies? I agree that is frustrating. I would say to keep checking if you are not in a hurry to get it and don't want to drive far, but of course, I don't know Target's actual situation. Sorry if that post was misleading! Ugh!

Has anyone bought a copy from Walmart? I was curious to see if my Walmart had any copies. They had 3 regular copies, and a $20 copy with a Cass County t-shirt in my size. I've really enjoyed reading and listening to all these interviews Don is doing. He has seemed pretty comfortable and relaxed while promoting his album, and it looks as if he is enjoying himself. I do have one observation though - Don's candid comments about the current state of country music may not endear him to some in the country music community. Even though I'm sure it is not his intention - some folks could interpret his comments as being pompous, demeaning, or condescending. Hopefully, I'm just being overly sensitive and no one will be offended.
And BTW - Congrats to lucky NOLA and DevineDon on your signed copies of Cass County. That is fantastic!!!

It's difficult to follow The Billboard Charts, in my opinion but Don's Cass County is the number 3 best selling album, plus he's number 1 in 3 of the other album categories they publish.
Here's an article from Vintage Vinyl News
http://www.vintagevinylnews.com/2015/10/don-henley-debuts-at-3-george-strait-at.html
Veteran artists at the top of other Billboard charts:
Album Sales - Cass County - Don Henley
Country Albums - Cass County - Don Henley
Folk Albums - 1989 - Ryan Adams
Jazz Albums - The Silver Lining: The Music of Jerome Kern - Tony Bennett & Bill Charlap
Latin Pop Albums - Mexico - Julio Iglesias
Catalog Albums - The Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Tastemaker Albums - Cass County - Don Henley
Outselling George Strait is quite an achievement.
Don Henley has officially won the battle of new country albums with his Cass County debuting at number 3 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums compared to a number 4 start for George Strait's Cold Beer Conversation.
It's an even bigger defeat on the Country Albums where Henley starts at 1 and Strait at 2, breaking George's sixteen year, nine album streak of number 1's. His last set not to make the summit was 1999's Always Never the Same which also went to number 2.
Looks like 2016 could be a barren year for the Eagles, good news for solo projects.

I was shocked too, Brooke. Heck I'm shocked that George is back since he was suppose to retired. I guess he couldn't stay away too long.
Like Don, George doesn't like to do interviews or even go to awards that much, but Don knows he has to do promote his album for it to do good. So we won't see George promoting his album. He might show up at the country awards, but seeing him on talk shows and late night shows you won't see him doing that.
The CMAs are on November 4th. I wonder if they will ask Don to sing. He is free on the 4th, but he would had to go leave immediately after the show to head to DC for the next show.

I'm still listening to CC. Hasn't left the cd player in my car yet, but I'm still not ready to decide what I like better than what!
Hubby and I were listening to it on the way to church Sunday and he thought Bramble Rose would be a great awards show song if he could get Miranda and Mick to share the stage with him. Can you imagine those 3 on stage together and the hype it would create?

I can see that at the Grammys too. They do that a lot. CMA has been doing that a lot too.
Speaking of Bramble Rose. Even though Don didn't write it, it sounds almost like Saturday Night. I guess music.
I have my copy in my car and I download the cd to my phone through Itunes. So when I'm in the mood, I put on Don's new cd which is everyday.

Am I the only one who raised an eyebrow when Don said he named his album because he felt Cass County needed "a shot in the arm".
Using a drug taking metaphor was quite appropriate. Is Cass County able to cope with having a number 1 album named after it. Now it's a tourist attraction, it may attract a visit from the odd (deranged) The Dude or Mojo Nixon fan

10-11-2015, 02:47 PM
He's probably trying to help his hometown. I think I heard for years Don didn't want the attention to go to his hometown. Heck like the article said, he didn't want a billboard of him for years, but he finally agreed.
IMO What singers or star care about the place that made them. Some stars could careless about their hometown. You're right, Funk50. It can be a good thing or a bad thing.

10-11-2015, 02:52 PM
I think "a shot in the arm" means an economic boost. Think of the money(revenue) Cass County (and Linden) will get from the tourists. Having people come from all over to see Don's hometown will help the local businesses. Alot of small towns in the rural south are drying up(I'm speaking from personal experience). The way of life that used to make small towns thrive no longer exists much. I think that Don realized by naming the album Cass County and letting them use him as a sort of tourist attraction would be good for the county in the long run.
As for what kinds of people come, I don't know.

10-11-2015, 03:06 PM
I agree, AG. My mother is from a small town. She left there in 1974 and came to our current city. She never went back thank goodness. I can't live there and there's really nothing there. They have a Dollar General and a small grocery store. The closest city is 30 miles away.
Like Linden, when they built a bypass, nobody would go through the city. You can go around it, but since my grandmother lives in the city limits, we have no choice but to go through the city.
I like that Don is helping his hometown. He has said his hometown is dying. When you got a bypass to go around your city, people are not going to stop there.
I'm looking forward to seeing Linden later this month.

10-11-2015, 03:20 PM
Shun, that's better than my town. We don't have a grocery store or Dollar General(both of those are a minimum of 15 miles away).
Expanding my personal experience: My dad's family has been here since just after the Civil War, and my mom's family comes from the county below us (also been there since about 1880). When my dad's parents married (in 1942), there was 2 doctor's offices, a hotel, a dentist, bank, post office, a car dealership/gas station(my great grandfather's), general store, grocery etc. You could get most stuff in town. Now there's the post office, 2 gas stations, a restaurant, and a hardware store. That's all that's left. (Yes, my mom and I still live in the town)
I find it hard to let go because of my family's past in this town. I suspect Don feels the same way. He bought alot of the property in Linden to help boost it. Now he's doing even more to help. In today's high paced world, the small, family oriented towns have completely fallen bythe wayside. Don's trying to fight to keep that from happening in his hometown. I really don't see any negative in that.
ETA: Enjoy your trip to Linden Shun! :)

They do have a bank, a school (which is K thru 12), a gas station, post office, but they have to go either to Greenville which is 30 minute away or my city Jackson if they want to see the doctor. Their maybe more businesses. I really haven't gone further down the road in years. I just go my grandma's house and that's it.

Absolutely AG95, that's the intention but just like drugs, once it's taken hold, it can be very difficult to control and in The Long Run you get to a point where you wish that you'd never started.
I'm sure Don is familiar with the phrase "The road to hell is paved with good intentions"
One thing locals don't like is rich people buying property and not living in them. How does that help the economy? I hate Billboards graffiti-ing up the countryside too. I'm glad that Don is expecting his to be temporary.

Wow - I am thinking "The Guardian" writer Paul Lester won't ever get another chance to interview Don again!
This article's author seemed to be doing fine until he mentioned that Don used to do drugs. I wonder at Don's defensiveness after all these years.
Actually, Soda, I'm not surprised at Don's defensive posturing towards that particular question. I think he's fed up with answering the same tired inquiries about his (and the band's) past hedonistic activities. They became common public knowledges after the release of the HOTE doc and easily searchable with a few quick clicks of a mouse. Obviously, the interviewer knew about them beforehand.
IMO, I wonder why interviewers/journalists keep trying to revive the proverbial 'sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll' dead horse when it's several decades gone, other than to generate more attention to their articles. Are they paid by the number of clicks? I really don't know. Still, I have to admire Don's apparent churlishness (love that word, BTW - thank you, Mr. Bill Simmons) and reluctance to expound further on the subject. If I was him, I would've done the same thing. Enough is enough.
If Don were to ever provide a more lyrical answer, I think his response may float somewhere between "Get Over It" and "No, Thank You."

Q: How has age changed your perspective on the machinery, promises, and pitfalls of being a live performer? I know the drugs, wild partying, etc. are a thing of the past, but what’s your current philosophy about bringing your music directly to audiences? What do you still get out of getting on stage?I thought it was a good and fairly respectful question and it's a shame Don didn't attempt to answer it properly. I know some of it's been covered in the promotion for the HotE tour and how backstage is different these days, but Don hasn't really gone into why he does live performances.
UTW, I feel that Don may have answered the questions more thoroughly, if the interviewer would have just left out that one part. IMO, the second question makes perfect sense without it, so I don't know why it was included in the first place. However, because he did say/write it, Don zeroed in and shut it down. A lesson learned.

In some ways, the tales of rock n roll debauchery from years past are seen as "cool". It's an interesting part of being a musician back then. People enjoy reading about it. Just look at how popular Mötley Crue's book, The Dirt, was when it came out. (New York Times bestseller). I wonder if being asked about their drugs/party days is aa annoying as being asked "what is Hotel California about?" for Don?
