McCartney was given a KCH in 2010.

Robert Plant has a CBE & Jimmy Page has an OBE.

Thanks for the info Freypower. I'm really surprised Genesis, especially Gabriel and Collins haven't received any UK honours, or maybe I missed that too!

I'm pretty sure The Spice Girls received something during their short association :stunned:

27 more days until KCH or 26 days since everything starts that Saturday.

The suspense is killing on who will be there what song the performers will sing.

Thank goodness we won't have to wait until the televise.

Same. I am curious to see if Randy Bernie and Felder will be in the audience.

I have noticed that Felder has been unusually quite lately

Stephen Colbert has been announced (https://twitter.com/kencen/status/800719240420618240) as the host again. :) He's hosted the past two years so it was expected. Love Stephen and looking forward to who is announced as performing not only for the Eagles tribute but for the other musicians being honored as well.

That's cool. Its going to be interesting.

I can't believe its only less than 2 weeks away. I'm so glad we get to find out the same day(or the next day) after the event and not December 27th. I wonder who's going to be there for James. I will definitely keep my eye out for the White House reception which should be posted the next day after the event. I wonder what the president will say about each honoree.

Looking forward to the Kennedy Centre Honorees.

I'm really looking forward to this. I forgot to add in my post about Stephen Colbert that he is an Eagles fan. I loved his thank you to Glenn and all the Eagles after Glenn passed as Stephen revealed "Desperado" was the first song he danced to at a school dance and got to courage to ask the girl he liked to dance. :D

I remembered that video, but it was nice of KCH to bring up why the Eagles wasn't there last year and then Stephen had say something about being shirtless. LOL

Loved the shirtless crack - something about how they would delay getting the award so they could all be together, "The way it's meant to be, together and shirtless."

I was just on KCH website. It looks like they will do a live feed of the red carpet this Sunday at 6:00pm eastern on Facebook. Probably on the John F. Kennedy Center of Performing Arts facebook page.

I wonder if the guys will show up on the red carpet. I would guess so since they are honorees.

The writer of the Washington Post article (see the pres thread) clarified a few points in the comments.

There's no indication Deborah Rutter decided which band members would be honored. She told me it was decided after she got direction from Irving Azoff, the band's manager. I hope that's clear in the article.

One thing to note: I spoke to Leadon. He said he was not upset with the Eagles or their management. I could not reach Meisner. He has been in poor health. Felder declined several requests to comment.

So Felder is the bitter one if he declined to comment.

Its nice to see Bernie was indifferent.

shunlvswx
11-29-2016, 10:52 AM
I figure Bernie wouldn't be upset. He was probably happy just to be part of the HOTE tour the last 2 years and even being part of the Grammys salute to Glenn.

I can understanding them not being able to get in touch with Randy because the guy is going through a lot right now. He doesn't have the time or energy to be mad about not being included. He's got more things on his plate right now.

UndertheWire
11-29-2016, 11:05 AM
Bernie seems to be such a grounded person. He's focusing on the warmth of his final interaction with Glenn. He got out when he wanted and then had this final tour to relive the music and the glory (and set up a nice pension fund, too).

I don't know that Felder is bitter. He may have decided that it's better to remain silent than to feed the controversy. Good for him.

The White House reception might be live on CSPAN or come on later. I'm trying to find the time for it come on. They did it last year.

I'm getting so excited for this weekend. The guys are going to be very busy with luncheons, dinners and ceremonies.

I wonder if the guys will be wearing a bowtie or a tie. I only seen Joe and Don in a bowtie, but not Timothy.

I am getting excited about this too! I will be in NYC visiting Henley Honey so hopefully we can catch some of the festivities on tv.

And I enjoyed the Washington Post article though it breaks my heart to think of everything Glenn had to endure in his later years. I always thought of him as invincible.

If Bernie says he's not upset about the snub, I believe him. But if he were upset, I hardly think he would be saying so to the press.

I'm glad Don F didn't comment. Anything he said would probably misconstrued or blown out of proportion.

It is a bit worrisome to me that Randy couldn't be reached for comment.

ETA: NMB, looks like we have the same thoughts about Randy

Here's an interesting article that Washington Post think who should serenade all of the honorees on Sunday.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/arts-and-entertainment/wp/2016/11/30/who-should-really-play-the-kennedy-center-honors/?utm_term=.3a69a4a10f8b

Eagles
Emotional: Deacon Frey. The late Glenn Frey’s son is reportedly talented in his own right and a ringer for his dad on “Peaceful Easy Feeling.”
Obvious: Jackson Browne. He co-wrote the band’s iconic 1972 hit, “Take It Easy,” and stood in as the singer when the surviving Eagles performed a tribute to Frey at last year’s Grammys.
Unexpected: Rihanna. You won’t need a band. Let her loose, a cappella, on “Desperado.” Save the hanky you used to wipe the tears after Deacon. They’ll be flowing like the Nile.

You know what would be thrilling: Barry Gibb doing "One of These Nights". The Bee Gees seemed to influence the song, so having Barry do it would bring it full circle.

Delilah

I have wondered if it was the other way around--maybe the Eagles influenced The Bee Gees.:grin:

Well today starts all the festivities in DC. The guys and their families probably arrived yesterday. From what I read on Wikipedia, they have a luncheon with the Chairman of KCH board of trustees sometime today and the guys getting their ribbons tonight held by the State Department presiding over by Secretary of State. We have the White House reception(which will be posted on youtube) and then the gala performance and dinner after.

I can't believe the special weekend is finally here. I just wish Glenn was alive to be part of it. :weep:

I'm glad we get to see who's there on the red carpet tomorrow and somebody at the White House will post the little reception for the honorees either sometime that night or the next day.

I can see Joe doing it(I've seen a few pictures of Joe on the red carpet), but I don't know about Don and Timothy(Timothy might do it).

They did it for HOTE, they might do it for this. I saw pictures from the Red Carpet for the last two years and the honorees did walk the Red Carpet. Even with their families.

Maybe this one they will do it.

A question for someone who follows these things closely (Shun?): Could some of tonight's performers have been at the dinner? There are photos of Garth Brooks, Tricia Yearwood, Elle King, Bonnie Raitt and, of course, Ringo Starr. Of course, some may be there for James Taylor - has anyone ever given a tribute for two honorees in the same show? There are also some actors and musicians who might be paying tribute to the other honorees.

I usually only watch when CBS airs it and haven't really followed it this closely before but I would imagine some of the performers might've been there last night. I agree Trisha makes sense to perform as part of the Eagles portion and Garth for James. I could see Bonnie too for the Eagles as she performed at that tribute to Glenn and interesting that Elle King was there. There will also be performances for Mavis' portion too so Elle might be part of hers, and I'm guessing Robert De Niro will be there for Al's but that'll be for speaking.

Yes, I think that is how I feel. It's an honour for the family & I hope to see a photo of them with President Obama later.

Not until December 27th. We already had 3 performers who will do an Eagles song. Bob, Kings Of Leon and some other guy that the interviewer didn't even say his name.

Who was the guy with the KCH ribbon who said he'd made a mess of a Don Henley song on one of his albums?

Who was the female singer with an english accent who wouldn't say which artist she was performing for but it wasn't Mavis Staples?

I got Kings of Leon right!!!! :D I personally was hoping for this but didn't really expect it. I've thought for years they reminded me of the Eagles (especially in their early days with the long hair too) and then their latest album "Walls" came out and it sounds so much like an Eagles album. So great they are Bob are doing performances.

As for the 3rd performer I think it's Juanes and he's a very popular Columbian singer/guitarist and he's performed at the Grammys a few times. I thought he was really good so looking forward to seeing these.

12-04-2016, 09:00 PM
SO there's two or three other performers we don't know. The singers usually have 4 or 5 songs performed for their honor.

I still think Garth will be there for James and Trisha for the Eagles. Garth is a huge fan of James.

Bob and Juanes slip what song they will sang. I think we all guessed HC and HT being sung. Technically HC was a big given. I would had been surprised if they had not included it.

Some info about the gala, specifically about the Eagles:

The Eagles were originally selected to be honored last year, but the band opted to delay participation because of founding member Glenn Frey's poor health. Frey died in January at age 67, making the event a bittersweet one for the surviving Eagles, who were joined by Frey's widow, Cindy Frey. Henley has said the band will never perform again. Bob Seger, Vince Gill and Kings of Leon performed the Eagles' music on Sunday.

"I want to dedicate this evening to our brother Glenn," Henley said as the band accepted its honors Saturday night at the State Department. "He was so much a part of our success. He was the driving force in this band. He believed in the American dream."

The band's longtime manager, Irving Azoff, sobbed as he raised a glass to Frey.

"For our Eagles family," he said, "2016 couldn't have had a harder beginning or a more appropriate ending."

So from what this article is saying, it looks like Ringo said something about the Eagles before the video montage and then it was Bob, Kings of Leon, Vince and Juanes paying tribute to the guys. So Bob and Vince was who majority of everybody said that would be paying tribute.

The Eagles, credited with shaping the Southern California sound with hits such as “Life in the Fast Lane,” “Desperado” and “Hotel California,”*were to receive Kennedy Center Honors last year, but their awards were postponed when band*co-founder Frey*took ill. He died Jan. 18 at age 67 from complications of rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia.

That left Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit and Joe Walsh, all 69, to collect Kennedy Center medallions on Sunday with Frey’s widow, Cindy.
“For our fans, 2016 didn’t have a harder beginning or a more appropriate ending,” Eagles manager Irving Azoff said in an interview before the black-tie event at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Added Schmit on Sunday as he*entered*the center: “The whole thing was a great ride from the moment I joined the band till the end,” he said. “It was kind of a roller-coaster ride, but it was real joyful.”

Ringo Starr heralded the Eagles’ legacy, then Bob Seger, the Kings of Leon, Vince Gill and the Colombian musician Juanes performed some of the Eagles’ biggest hits.

Its interesting bunch of artists paying tribute to the guys. Kings of Leon, Bob, Vince, and Juanes.

I heard Vince sing Peaceful Easy Feeling. So I know he's going to do a great job with that song. Vince has done KCH a few times just like Mavis and James has done it many times before they finally became a honoree. They need to make Vince a honoree. He deserves it.

I can't wait to hear Juanes put his spin on HC. I've never heard of him(I must had not notice him when he was there in 2013. I was just waiting on them to hurry to get to Billy), but I think they pick the right guy to do HC since HC has that had a latin feel to it and I heard he's a good guitar player. So its going to be interesting.

I think its going to be an interesting show on the 27th. I'm actually looking forward to everybody.

I saw a picture of Deacon holding his father's medallion and him saying he was proud to be his son. I started to cry when I saw the picture.

All of this sounds so amazing! Thanks shun and everyone who posted all the info and pics!

I missed it all last night! I never thought of looking on Fb or checking in here! I looked on tv and found nothing!

The guys and Cindy and their families all look fabulous! I'm so glad Cindy got to sit with them in the balcony. I thought she might also accept Glenn's award, but I didn't see her up there on stage with the President. She might not have wanted to be up there either.

I'm so happy for all of them. Sounds wonderful!

At the State Department dinner, I think Cindy was on stage when they got their medallion. In the picture of Don at the mike, I think that's her hand. You only seen Joe and Timothy, but she's there on stage because there's somebody holding a box.

KCH kept their promise and had Cindy sitting with the guys on the front row. I didn't think they were going to have Cindy on stage with the guys, but they did acknowledge her being there in place of Glenn in the WH reception video. I know she was in one of the pictures with the honorees, Secretary of State, and people from KCH.

Here's a little recap from last night. You get a little of Peaceful Easy Feeling, Take it Easy, Hotel California and Life in the Fast Lane. Cindy was enjoying herself. Poor Taylor. I just want to hug her. I started to cry as I listen to the performers and then seeing Taylor wiping her eyes. I don't know how Cindy got through this whole weekend, but it looks like she did. Cool seeing President Obama singing along to LITFL. The audience was having fun.

Other than the Eagles. I can't wait to see Kevin Spacey doing his impression of Al. I've seen him do it before. Its hilarious.

Its going to be an interesting night. December 27th can't get here any faster.

An article from Variety. If the order is right(which majority of the time it is), it looks like the guys will be going on last on the 27th which is good. What a way to begin the show and end the show. Two great legends. I'm glad this year I know 4 of the 5 honorees that means I won't have to change the channel when a honoree I don't know is on.

http://variety.com/2016/biz/news/kennedy-center-honors-james-taylor-eagles-president-obama-1201933556/

The show’s finale for the Eagles included a biographical film narrated by Linda Ronstadt, an introduction by Ringo Starr, and a barrage of Eagles faves from the Kings of Leon (“Take it Easy”), Juanes, Bob Seger (“Heartache Tonight”), and Steuart Smith (“Hotel California”). In addition, Vince Gill offered “Easy Feeling” as a tribute to the band’s late member, Glenn Frey, who died in January at age 67.

The next quote is about the State Department dinner on Saturday.

The salute to the Eagles was delivered by the band’s longtime manager, Irving Azoff, who cited the group’s well known insistence of perfection and commitment to principles. Band member Henley spoke for the group and dedicated the evening to “our brother Glenn, who was the driving force of this band.” Ending on a political note, Henley said “it is our fervent hope that going forward, [musicians] will still be able to make their dreams come true, if Google doesn’t destroy what’s left of the music industry!”

No problem. I was having so much fun looking and finding pictures from this weekend. Watching the live stream of the Red Carpet yesterday and watching the WH reception video. I almost missed it. I had a feeling it would be live, but I was waiting on the facebook live stream that I forgot about they being live from the WH. Thank goodness somebody on Facebook said it was live on Youtube. I got there in time to hear President Obama talk about the guys.

As I was watching the video from the recap of last night, if I was crying at just watch the little clips of the performers performing the Eagles songs from the gala, I know I'll be crying when the 27th. I can't believe its only 3 weeks ago.

Thanks again so much Shun for all of these posts!!! :D I am beyond excited for all of this and it's going to be amazing to watch.

I did see some posts on Twitter about Kings of Leon performing and seeing tweets from the guys in the band and their wives and how honored they felt to be there and meet all these people that influenced them and the President. I first started listening to them around 2004 when they started to get big here in the US (the long hair days as I call it LOL) and got a big following around Ohio State. Even my Dad got into them as he reminded him of a lot of 70s bands and knowing the Followills were inspired by the Eagles it's going to be great seeing one of my current favorite bands pay tribute to one of my all-time favorite bands. :D

I also saw too on the Chicago Tribune two of the artists that performed for James Taylor besides Garth Brooks were Darius Rucker (who used to be the lead singer for Hootie and the Blowfish) and Sheryl Crowe. Awesome thing (besides me being a fan of both) is too both Darius and Sheryl are Eagles fans and have ties to the Eagles as well. Still not sure who performed for Mavis but this is one of the first years I'm going to be excited to watch the entire show.

Nostalgia also encircled the tribute to the Eagles, who've sold more than 120 million albums worldwide, including Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) ruling as the top-selling album in the U.S. of the 20th century. Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit were called for recognition last year but postponed in hopes that Frey, who by then was in a fierce battle with colitis, rheumatoid arthritis and pneumonia, would recover. Frey passed away in January; his wife Cindy and children were on hand to receive his rainbow lanyard last night.
"We miss him terribly and it's only fitting that we went ahead and did this," Timothy B Schmit told Billboard. Calling the Honors "a Cinderella night," Schmit added, "To culminate the year by being here and being honored, meeting the Obamas… The whole thing is a great ride - from the moment I joined the band until its end. It was kinda a roller coaster ride but overall a joyful one, and I'm one of the luckiest people I know."

Frey's longtime friend Bob Seger showed up to pay homage to the band and 47-year friendship with Frey, noting his upcoming album - which he's wrapping this week - features a song he wrote for Frey that carries the line, "When I think about you I always smile."
Asked whether he would return to the Kennedy Center Honors under the Trump administration, Seger carefully demurred with an, "Oooooh… I'll say no comment to that." For this year's performance, he said, the plan was to "just going to give it my all and leave it all out in the stage for my friend Glenn."
That he did, infusing "Heartache Tonight" - which he co-wrote with Frey, Don Henley and JD Souther - with a hearty helping of Seger soul that brought the audience to its feet. Also feting the Eagles were Kings of Leon, who adeptly channeled the band's harmonies on "Take It Easy"; Vince Gill, who laid down pristine vocals on "Peaceful Easy Feeling"; and Latin rocker Juanes, who did "Hotel California" proud, accompanied by guitar virtuoso Steve Vai.http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/7597404/the-eagles-james-taylor-mavis-staples-kennedy-center-honors

Sheryl used to be a backup singer for Don in the 90s before she made it big.

As I was reading the articles of who's paying tribute to the honorees, I just love hearing the younger artist saying this person influenced me or I'm looking forward to meeting this artist. You really don't hear that many popular stars of today saying that they were influenced by a singer or group who was around before they were even born. LOL I've never would had thought Kings of Leon were fans of the Eagles, but it was cool to hear that.

I'm looking forward to hearing all the performer, but I definitely want to hear Juanes tear up HC. I heard he's a great guitar player. So its going to be interesting. I wonder if Steuart will be on the stage with Juanes as they do that famous duo of the guitars at the end of the song. I would had loved to hear Vince played the guitar solo for HC. I know he would tear it up.

I can't wait for 3 weeks from today. Just like the KCH getting fast, the 27th will get here fast.

You're welcome everybody. I really enjoyed this weekend. Looking for pictures, talking about seeing the guys family(for some the first time seeing some of their children), posting articles, posting videos and everything. This was my first time seeing two of Don's children, seeing Jeddrah and I saw a picture of one of Joe's sons for the first time. Many first this past weekend. They all looked beautiful.

I know this was a bittersweet weekend for the guys and for us knowing this would probably be the last time we ever seen them together as a group and then the guys probably sad that Glenn wasn't there, but I really didn't think of that. I just wanted to enjoy the weekend. I feel like I was there.

I'm most happy seeing Cindy having fun. Seeing her and the children smiling especially after what they have been through this year. Cindy was enjoying herself in the CBS video I posted yesterday. I remembered the picture of Cindy leaning on Don as they probably had just been introduce. I think that's my favorite image of the whole weekend. I hate that they won't show some of that on the 27th.

I think Glenn would had wanted everybody to enjoy themselves and not feel sad and that's what they did especially Cindy even though she was probably hurting inside and missing Glenn throughout the weekend.

Love that pic of what the ribbons look like!!! :D Never actually seen that up close before. I agree Cindy looks so gorgeous too. And I think I read that Linda Ronstadt did the voice over for the video of band's history, which I hope is the case. :D

Thanks again Shun for all of these posts. I agree about how great it is to see todays current artists talk about their influences. You mostly now hear about the Eagles influence on today's country artists but not so much from today's rock/alt-rock. I always had a feeling Kings of Leon did have an Eagles influence, especially with their harmonies, and nice to see it confirmed. I actually just looked back into KOL's history and surprised me that originally the oldest brothers Caleb and Nathan (the lead singer and drummer) were actually originally in Nashville to be a country duo in the early 2000s. :D They didn't really go into rock music till their younger brother Jared (the bass player) and cousin Matthew (lead guitarist) graduated high school around 2002/2003 and joined their band and they all relocated to California. There's some other similarities with the Eagles from there on out.

As for songs that have an Eagles sound I would say besides their new album "Walls" which does mix back in their country & Southern rock sounds and the title track is a country style ballad (I also posted I think last month how the critics were calling this their "Hotel California" album by the influences and how it's now their biggest album yet), their older songs "Back Down South", "On Call", "Pickup Truck", and "Wait for Me" I would say have influences. Also "Closer" reminds me of "Hotel California" with the lyrics.

I wanted to post a quote that Don said in an interview he did for Unitedmags.com. I posted the link in Don's thread too.

http://www.unitedmags.com/rhap-session-don-henley

When the Eagles receive Kennedy Center Honors this month, you’ll be shouldering a legacy you cocreated with Glenn Frey. What’s it going to be like to accept this award as the remaining founder of the group?

It’s a very prestigious honor, and I’m very humbled and grateful to receive it. It’s going to be bittersweet because Glenn’s not there. It’s going to be difficult. His widow is going to come and sit in his place. He was the most enthusiastic about getting this award, and he really wanted to go and to participate. We are, at least from my perspective, doing it in his honor. From Don's quote, Glenn was soo looking forward to it last year. It just makes me sad.

Thanks to Shun for all the updates on the KCH! I think the performers were well chosen, with a good range of different acts (I would say the songs were well chosen too, but I think that go. goes without saying!) For me it's difficult to not to state the obvious in saying that it's a wonderful moment for Don, Joe and Tim tempered only by the dreadful shame that Glenn couldn't join them. I was glad to see that his family attended in his place in his honour.

Although it's very sad, I was kind of pleased when I read that Glenn was really enthusiastic about the honours. I think when people die, including those who I've known personally, I tend to be reassured when I think of things they said or did that defined their personalities, and his enthusiasm for the award strikes me as being totally 'Glenn', which made me smile. I like to think he was looking down on them.

Its our(the US) National Anthem which is the The Star-Spangled Banner. Its usually played at a lot of events(e.g. sports or big events like this). Like God Save the Queen is England's National Anthem.

Mostly everybody have their right hand over their heart when the national anthem is played or stand at attention like a few are doing in the picture. Its kinda a touchy subject right now with the national anthem, but that's another story for another time.

I don't remember ever doing this when I was a kid or being told this was the proper protocol. We held our hands over our hearts for the Pledge of Allegiance only. It seems to have become widely prevalent over the last 20 years to do the same for the national anthem. I suspect Don, growing up in Texas as I did, may have had a similar experience.

Thanks for posting these pics!

Thank you for that, redstorm1968. I'm a little embarrassed to say I didn't realize that the protocol was actually codified in 1998!

Thank you so much for posting all these, Shun. I've really enjoyed looking at them.

It looks like those who have their hands over their hearts are using their right hands, which is what I would expect. Don, however, has his left hand over his heart. With Don, I have to wonder if it's purposeful or not.

Don will be on CBS This Morning again tomorrow. I don't know if this is a new interview or the one from earlier this month. He's probably going to talk more on KCH. Al Pacino was today. Other than James, Al and Don, I don't know if any of the other KCH will be on for the next couple of days.

Found this video on Youtube.

Here are the guys talking about the people who paid tribute to them. Its nice to hear from their own mouths how they felt about that night. Don and Timothy's comments are also included in the other video I posted. I agree with what Timothy said. I think Glenn would had wanted them to still do this and I'm glad they did.

They have clips of all the honorees talking about that night. I think this is the first time I've ever seen these videos. Their maybe more from other years.

Maybe someone could let us know what was said.

Don talked about how touched, honored and grateful they were for the performers that paid tribute to them.

Joe said they were in awe with the other recipients and it was a great graduating class.

Don talked about how Glenn was looking forward this and was the most excited of all of them with getting the award. He said he was missed and it was a wonderful tribute to him and his family. I don't know what he said after that.

Timothy then said Glenn was a big part of their lives and their careers. Timothy brought up Glenn would had liked that they carry on with this this year and possible a bit healing for Cindy and the kids.

I'm paraphrasing, but I think I got everything they said.

I haven't read any of the other posts yet, but I found it disappointing. It felt rushed, at least what was aired. Where the other tributes and segments had a good pace, everything about the Eagles segment seemed rushed for time. Verses were cut out, the "Hotel California" solo was cut, everything was just edited for time. It ruined it for me. I'm glad they were honored, but as a fan it was just disappointing to watch.

shunlvswx
12-28-2016, 12:19 AM
I knew they were going to cut verses and bridges from songs. I wasn't surprised. Plus we don't know if they edited the songs for broadcast. The performers might had did it that. I didn't feel it was rushed. I guess I should posted what I said on facebook on here.

I enjoyed it. I thought all the performers did a great job. I thought I was going to cry, but I didn't. Seeing Cindy enjoying herself put a smile on my face. I loved seeing the guys enjoying themselves too. I wonder if Joe knew if Ringo was going to introduce them. That's a big secret to keep from your brother in law. LOL I would had loved to seen the guys faced when Ringo told them Linda was doing the narration.

Bob tore Heartache Tonight up. HE did a great job. Glenn would had been so proud of his mentor. IT was good to see Joe doing the ohh ohh.

I loved seeing the audience singing along. Even some younger people were singing. James singing along and the president singing Life in the Fast Lane. I saw Gayle King singing along to all the songs.

Here's the order.
Take It Easy
Hotel California
Peaceful Easy Feeling
Heartache Tonight

It was a great show. I enjoyed everybody's tribute. I feel Glenn was there that night enjoying himself alongside his bandmates and family.

True. They cut everybody's songs in half. Not just the Eagles. You're be lucky if they play a whole song. They do that every year.

I teared up when I heard Glenn's voice at the end of the introductory segment. A band for all time indeed. The music lives on.

Perhaps some of the tributes weren't ideal (although Vince Gill and Bob Seger were amazing) but I'm just glad they got this honor. I loved seeing them so celebrated, seeing people of all ages singing along, seeing them get the kudos they deserve from the highest level.

Most importantly, the guys themselves and their loved ones seemed to enjoy the tributes as well as be moved by them. They earned this.

After seeing the other tributes, I expected the Eagles songs to be edited. While I would have loved to hear full versions, I thought all the performers were great. And Shun, I completely agree with you -- Bob Seger nailed HT! I could feel the emotion in his performance.

What a treat to see the audience all singing along to the songs, including James Taylor singing along to PEF and President Obama singing along to LITFL. It was heartwarming to see Cindy and Taylor having fun. They've been through so much this past year. All in all, IMO, it was a wonderful celebration of the influence and importance of the Eagles.

Technically. They were trying to show the president watching and enjoying the performances of all the honorees, but I guess when you're sitting right behind him, you're going to be shown a lot.

As I was watching PEF, it looked like Don was tearing up. I really don't know how they got through it. Timothy looked like he wanted to break down a few times when they showed him. Don was trying to hold back his emotions, but I did see him tear up during PEF. Joe seem fine.

I remembered that video clip of highlights of the show and remembered Taylor tearing up and Sharon comforting her. Now I know why she started to cry. They had just finished showing the video montage and I would cry too.

I loved it!!! :D Having watched the KCH before they always edit the songs so CBS can air commercials and get it to a 2 hour broadcast. Bob Seger was amazing and loved his version of "HT"!!! :yay: So great seeing Taylor and Marjorie dancing. Loved everyone together at the end too, Vince Gill did great, so did Juanes, and being a Kings of Leon fan they did so great doing "TIE"!!! :D I loved Linda narrating and was hoping they would mention Randy, Bernie, and Felder but they were shown in the pics and video segments. Loved Ringo being the one to speak about them too. My Mom loved watching as well and my brother watched the Eagles segment even though he was watching football mostly. Loved seeing so many dance and sing along as well.

I also loved the tribute segments for James, Mavis, Al, and Martha. I forgot they honor President Kennedy too and was nice seeing his grandchildren.

Also, Gayle King was there because of her being on CBS This Morning and CBS always has their representatives there. Julie Chen from "The Talk" and her husband who owns CBS were also there too and saw a couple other reporters from other networks that are owned by CBS as well.

Underwhelmed. Except for Bob Seger's performance.

Granted, I've never watched this show from beginning to end; I've only seen bits and parts. There was a muted quality about the whole thing that's hard to put into words. Sheryl Crow sounded shrill singing "Fire and Rain". The tribute to Al Pacino was kinda nice; I liked the references to his famous movie lines.

The Kings of Leon and Juanes(?) looked nervous and their performances were a little subdued. Still, it was great to see young people performing Eagles songs. However, it made the house band (or what I'm assuming is the house band) seem out of place. I like Vince Gill, but I've seen and heard better performances from him. Maybe I need to watch again but it felt like he was going through the motions, kind of. It could have been that "rushed" quality someone else referred to earlier in the thread.

Bob was awesome. He put a lot of heart and soul into his performance. It was nice to see Mrs. Frey and her daughter enjoying themselves and dancing. Don didn't look happy at times. Joe and Timothy smiled quite a bit.

By the end the Obamas looked bored. But another poster pointed out how Gayle King was singing along so maybe they were annoyed with that instead. The narration about the band's history was all about Glenn and Don, of course. There was a line or two about Joe and Timothy, which focused on Joe's class clown persona and Timothy's high vocals, because apparently that's all they offer musically

Unfortunately, I missed the last performance. I believe I'll reserve my thoughts on the Three Who Shall Not Be Named, and apparently, Whose Images Shall Not Be Shown If It Can Possibly Be Avoided, and post them on the other thread.

Telling that 4/5 of the songs performed came from the debut album and Hotel California.

You were right. I am pretty sure most of the people in that room knew who the other guys were. Google is your friend so people who are knew to the band will know who they are. I dont think we were shown the whole video because they cut it for time constrants. Hopefully we get full performances like But it is nice that they included full photos with Bernie, Felder and Randy and the way they held the photos for a while was telling.

I dont think them being cut out was done with bad intentions just because they were focusing on Don, Glenn, Joe and Timmothy.

Thank you for being positive about that. I know you were one of the person who wished the other three were there. I said last year into this year when they announced for an honoree that the other three will either get mention and/or shown in the video montage. I would had agree that it would had been completely wrong if they were omitted completely from the montage, but they weren't. But I guess being seen in pictures and videos wasn't enough.

You are right. You can go on any other website or google the Eagles and they will mention the other three guys who are not in the band even if their were 4 current Eagles. And you're right. The people in the audience probably knew who Bernie, Felder and Randy were not just Don, Glenn, Joe and Timothy.

I think that was all for the video. The video didn't seem like it was cut other than editing different videos and pictures in there. I don't think we will see the full performances if their were full. I don't think they ever post the whole gala later.

I for one am happy this is over. I have gotten soo tired of the negativity that's been going on with this announcement since last year. Now I'm focusing in seeing the other surviving member that even includes Felder.

ETA: I saw you added some more to your post. The situation with the Who and Led Zeppelin was KCH only honored living honorees. If both John's and Keith were still alive today, they would had been included. Of course they were mention in their video montage.

It was exception with Glenn since he knew about the award before he died in January and that's why he was included. I'm glad Cindy and the kids were part of the festivities that weekend. They didn't have to do that. Cindy got what would had been his ribbon and like KCH promised, they had Cindy sitting with the guys on the front row and she probably was sitting where Glenn would had been sitting if he was alive.

I thought it was that Townsend and Daltry were the only current members of the Band.

Yes they were the last surviving members of the Who just like Led Zeppelin. John Entwistle (and even Keith) would had been sitting up there with them too if he didn't die 6 years before the Who was made honorees in 2008.

Since their has been a handful of duos and groups to ever get a KCH, I think this was the first time KCH ever honored somebody who had died before the award ceremony happened.

Now I don't know if the guys would had accepted this award if this happened years after Glenn died. I doubt they would had accepted it without Glenn even though this was different since they were suppose to get it last year and Glenn died a month after the ceremony.

Hi all. I have not seen the full show (in Mexico) , and regardless I am hispanic, I am sure Juanes (Colombian Pop singer) to do HC was a very bad, bad, unfortunate choice... Shame on the organiz., wasted opp, just like the Grammys when the very small Tribute to Glenn.. IMHO. My best to all of you friends.

I enjoyed the performances a lot more than I thought I would! But yes, it did seem that many of the peeps were nervous, understandably. Has Vince Gill recorded PEF? I shall look into that. I really liked his reading of it and his voice is wonderfully well suited to the song. Loved seeing Mr. & Mrs. James Taylor singing along too.

OT: James has aged into my Irish grandpa, the spitting image!

P.S. I didn't mind Gayle King being in the President's party, but what about that guy from the Daily Show?! He's not even American. Oh well. The President can invite whomever he'd like.

P.S.S. Joe's wife Marjory seems like a great gal, loads of fun.

Juanes didn't do badly at all but seems uncomfortable with English.
