Classical pieces can be overplayed if they are used too often in ads or movie trailers. Carmina Burina is a very good example. It always seems to be used to advertise blood & thunder type movies.

As far as ranking classical works alongside rock songs I don't do it myself. I don't even give classical tracks ratings on iTunes. I have some particular favourites such as the two quoted, plus Bach's Air on the G String (which some may also consider overplayed) but I couldn't put them in a list of my top 20 favourite pieces of music.

Any list of overplayed songs would surely depend on:

    1. the listener's age, and
    2. where they are living

Phil Collins' Sussudio was SERIOUSLY overplayed here. It's only in the last month or so that Rob and I have been brave enough to listen to it again.

A comment I once read somewhere... "once you stop playing the songs in your head and actually play the recording, you'll remember how good they are".

I like that! That's probably true. There are songs that I admit, I just skip right over because they get so overplayed, including a couple songs by my favorites such as HC and Stairway to Heaven. I really can't remember the last time I actually listened to either of them unless they were on the radio and I tuned them out. Guess I should take the above advice.

I think it depends too, how much you like or dislike a song to begin with. I love HC and I haven't grown tired of it. I never liked Sussudio so I didn't have to hear it very many times to consider it overplayed for me.

That sounds so reasonable and logical yet I know I LOVED LOVED HC and Stairway to Heaven when they first came out. Go figure!!

I agree with what you said too, GL. I guess I must have a high tolerance level for monotony. I rarely get tired of a song if I really like it a lot. I mean I don't want to hear it every day, but I'm definitely okay with hearing it a few times a month.

Don once said that he had a high tolerance for monotony too. So do I, I guess, as long as I like/love the song from the beginning.

Does anybody get Parade magazine with their Sunday paper? If so, did you see this Eagles mention in The Romneys article this past Sunday?

Give me your White House vision.
MR: I'd like it to be open and have people feel welcome there. I don't just mean touring it, but also come to the East Room and see a performance of some kind.

    Like what?
MR: Well, I would certainly want to hear from the Beach Boys, even though I know it's not the same group it used to be. Also Garth Brooks and Kenny Chesney and Toby Keith, and today's rock stars—The Killers are one group I enjoy.
AR: I love jazz, I love pop, I love rock, I love classical.
MR: I'd let Alabama come back and sing again, and Aerosmith. Different eras.
AR: We have a friend in the Eagles.
MR: These are not all Republicans, by the way. Some may turn us down, but—
AR: No, they would die to be mentioned.
MR: I think the Obamas have done a nice job of welcoming various artists and having people come enjoy the White House. I also think, by the way, that having two children in the White House is a good thing. I hope, if we are lucky enough to be there, our grandchildren could come on occasion.
AR: They'd want to move in, Mitt!
MR: I think having little feet in the hallway is wonderful.

Any idea what is meant here?

And I dream I'm on vacation 'Cause I like the way that sounds,
It's a perfect occupation for me.
