(Glenn is such a big fan of Otis Redding. He must have named his Otis after him.)

I'll Be Around by the Spinners is his 2nd choice. He says this is a song that uses only 2 chords & that he mentions it when teaching a song writing class.
I don't mind Try A Little Tenderness but I think it goes over the top at the end.

I was surprised to find when I opened YouTube that I already knew I'll Be Around from a cover version by an Australian singer, but this is the first time I had heard the Spinners version. It's OK. I don't worship this sort of music as much as Glenn does.

I do wish he would mention a British song. He loves the Beatles, I know that.

I don't have time to post details but, today's picks are In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins & Fire & Water by Wilson Pickett.

Fire & Water was originally recorded by Free (which I didnt' know); but In The Air Tonight is one of THE great songs. It sends chills up my spine whenever I hear it. I thought it might have been a bit gloomy for Glenn's taste. So I got my wish that he chose a couple of British songs even though the first one is sung by an American.

He mentioned In The Air Tonight at the songwriter's lecture at NYU last October. Something about a great intro, I think to do with visualization and setting a mood. Whatever he said, exactly, you were left knowing it was a song he had a lot of respect for.

That song gives me chills, too. It's so intense, and it has one of the most effective drum fills of any song I've ever heard. LOVE it.
