Have fun with the guitars!! It takes patience but you definitely will get the hang of it.

I'm selftaught, through online chords, videos and also through slowing down records.

I HATED school and instruction, so anything to remind me of that is a no-go for me (ie guitar lessons).

Also, most if not all of my rock n' roll heroes were not sheet music touting, sight reading, and by the book theory diehards. They learned to play as I did, with chords, blues scales, learning from group jamming, and slowing down records. I've never liked the technical aspect of guitar, and the whole "reading music" thing or the "by the book" way of playing. Playing by ear and picking things up is so much more rock n' roll than reading music or being a schooled guitarist. Technical virtuoso playing turns me off. Gimme a sloppy bluesy guitar riff or solo anyday. But a combination of a technician and a fly by the seat of his pants type guitarist in a band works great (Joe Perry/Brad Whitford for example, Brad is schooled and Joe isn't, and I prefer Joe).

For me guitar lessons just aren't my thing - even from non-theory diehards. I'd rather do it myself at my own pace.

I suppose we all learn different ways Austin! You seem to be an excellent guitarist doing it your way.

I'm up to my neck marking exams at the moment which is why I'm quiet. But I am checking in every day even if I can't post. My home Internet has gone so slow too!

I'm on my second Ford Focus, and recently my stepmother and younger brother were shopping for a second car for my brother (he's 17). I told them my thoughts along with what many of you here said about your Focus's, people walking away with little to no injuries after an accident, including hitting a bear. So they got it and the other night he hit a patch of ice and went off the road and slammed into a big tree. He walked away, shaken, but the car is likely totaled. Typical story, on a stretch of road twenty miles long, he found the 500 ft that for whatever reason hadn't been treated.

EL & GS, Hope you're both feeling better.

TK I think natures way of telling us we need to veg out is by sending us bad weather!

VA I'm glad your brother is ok! A car can be replaced. A life can't! I too have a focus and have been tempted to change it for something cheaper to tax, insure, run NCT, but I think it's worth keeping if it's a lot stronger in a crash!

I feel so much better today than yesterday...well enough to bundle up and go with my 2 friends out to the "farm" (their land that they will eventually build on) and shoot at some targets...the bad part was finding out that my dad's old .22 pistol needs some work (timing is off and it might be more $$ than it is worth to fix it), good part was learning to shoot a .22 rifle...no problems there!!

Now just eating supper and chilling until 9:00 comes around...which will be Walker Time in Tennessee!! :armed:

Glad to hear he walked away safe. One of the reasons we bought our Ford Focus in August was because of what you guys have said and the bear story really decided it for me. In fact, our daughter is buying her first car at the end of the month and it will be a new Ford Focus also. She's enjoyed driving her Dad's every once in awhile and after looking into the safety features and economical aspects has decided that's the one for her. She has our car salesman on alert on her color and features and as soon as all her school funding has been taken care of, that's her next step. Pretty proud of her for being so responsible because she's planning her trip to Spain in June but is holding off purchasing her plane ticket until the car is under control.

YEP, the focus my son hit and ran over the 700lb bear in and walked away with out anything but a bruse but the car was totaled...(axel and frame bent...guess that happens when you hit a bear ).That car had three accidents and each time we all walked away uninjured
He had had an accident in the same car a year before..on a rain soaked roadway going across the white painted stripes..they were slippery.
A week after our son had his accident...a gal a work who had just gotten a focus was hit while she was standing still waiting to make a left turn... she also walked away ..the other driver had to b e hospitazed..
I can not say enough about those cars....they are great and fun to drive and comfortable....

My goodness, so much going on around here I'm having a hard time catching up!

I've had a very busy last few days. The usual grocery shopping Saturday, then being sick on Sunday didn't help. I just felt very nauseous all afternoon. Went to Sunday School and had planned on my son and his wife coming for lunch, but had to cancel because I just started feeling bad. Came home and went to bed for a few hours and was better by evening. If you have to have the flu, that's the way to have it!

Then yesterday here at work we were soooooo busy, plus board meeting last night. Glad that's over for a month!

GS, hope you are feeling better.

EL, hope your cut is all well.

VA, glad to hear your brother wasn't hurt!

TBF, good luck to your daughter on finding the right car!

And in this area, the black shows the salt from the roads this time of year horrible. I almost had forgotten that. My last 3 SUVs were all silver and my mustang was yellow but never saw winter because we stored it. But in August I traded my silver Explorer for a black Hummer H3 and is it ever yucky all the time right now. Just can't help it with the winters around here.

Brooke
02-13-2013, 11:44 AM
I think silver is the best color for not showing dirt and dust. I live on a gravel road and you drive down it once and your car is dirty. Even though I know the dust or dirt is there, you really don't see it till you're up close on silver or even the light bronze color.

I love red and black, but I can't have it on my road.

JAHH hated the black mustang ..hard to keep clean showed every ding or nick ...
I"m just glad she is getting aFOcus..she will be safe from a crash stand point god forbid..
I still pinch myself when i realize hour son hit and ran over that 700lb black bear and walked away from it..I mean...he felt bad he killed it kept saying" blood and fur everywhere"...but the trooper said had he not killed it , it would have killed him..I thank god everyday for watching over him.
When she gets the car..go buy her a "guardian angel " visor clip.
When I had my accident years ago, I was afraid to drive and a lady I didnt know from the gym gave me one and it was in the car when I gave my first focus to my son and when he left the car (not knowing if they would total it or not) he grabbed the clip and when he called he told me that to him that was the most important thing...it kept him safe..

I live on a gravel road and have a black Focus. Almost all of my vehicles have been black because I don't really find any other color acceptable! It definitely shows the salt, and after the trip home from PA after Christmas, it was pure white (from roads in VA since those in PA and WVA were untreated, I'm still not over that). I've found that since it drives me crazy, I go wash the salt off, which I'm sure is better for the finish than leaving it on.

I hope everyone is safe EL and not too much damage has been done.

We are doing up the kids playroom as an 'older kids' den. This week we got them a new HD and 3D TV and today I get them a new HD box. I also had to replace my small camera this week! the old one came to blows at the family celebration at the weekend.
As I mark the exams I am realising the inevitability that I cannot go on much longer doing this without a decent pair of reading specs. Its gotten to the stage where the words are completely blurry now when I read.I lost my last pair in Atlanta Airport on my way to LA last year and have been managong with a few pairs of OTC specs. I guess I'm getting a bit old......

what happens with over the counter readers is sometimes your right eye is one strenght and your left eye is another strenght....so what happens is if you get something to weak or two strong..your eyes tend to get tired since they are working extra hard to compensate and correct the deficincy.
That was my problem since my left eye is one strenght and my right eye is another strenght....

True. I wear contacts that get them both to the same strength before the readers need to do their job. Or I did, now I wear one reader and one for distance and only need the OTC specs when in a dark place.

I used to have one of those but don't know which vehicle I left it in when I traded in for another car. Of course, I don't know if it would do much good for my heathen daughter anyways. :-(

Your son grabbing the clip from the car after the accident reminded me of something..... 3 days after Katie first got her license 3 years ago, she and her best friend at the time were out at the outlet mall she works at now filling out apps for jobs and on their way home, someone ran a stop sign and scraped the front of my SUV she was driving, tearing the Eagles license plate off the front of it and kept going. Katie pulled over and while waiting to see if the jerk would come back (he didn't), her friend ran out into the busy intersection to grab the Eagles license plate and save it from getting ran over anymore because he knew I was a huge fan. Larry flattened it our, bought a new frame to help keep it that way and it's been on the next 2 vehicles I've driven, including the H3 now. :hilarious:

While we are on the topic, my eyesight has really gone down over the last year or so. Not that its bad, but I'm finding close work and reading very hard to manage now particularly if the light is any way dim. Marking work in pencil is a real chore.

I need to get a proper eye test, but I don't know whether to opt for contacts or spectacles.

Another issue I have is that the last pair of specs (lost in Atlanta Airport when I was going to LA last year) is that when I was wearing them I could see the words really clearly when reading, but when I look up everything else is a blur!

Dunno what to do, but I can't keep reading much longer without some help!

You probably only need glasses for reading as you don't appear to have a problem with long range vision.

I have never even tried contacts. They sound a pain in the neck. You have to decide what is best for you.

If you only need glasses for reading & that sounds like the case, you can't wear contacts. Contacts are great if you have problems with distance (like driving or movies) but you have to leave them in.
If you are over 40, you probably do need reading glasses, This happens to almost everyone! You can get readers at the drugstore. Go try them on. Start with a +1.00 & see if that works for you, if not go a little higher.
It is a good idea to get your eyes checked by a doctor anyway if you have not had them checked in awhile!

Brooke
02-17-2013, 05:26 PM
Like I said, I have tried contacts and even had one contact for a while. At first I thought it was going to work, but they just really bothered me and especially when I was driving. I could drive but had to concentrate on depth perception too much. I didn't need help with distance. It just took too many tweakings by the eye dr to try to get them right and ultimately never did. Back to bifocals which just bug me being on my face.

I know lots of people that just have contacts or one contact for reading. It does work for some people.

I went to church this morning since I was all about the movie last night, and it seems that for Sunday School someone thought it a good idea to give young children balloons. Two beside me were beating on them the whole service. My concern was that the couple in front of me were in their 80's if they were a day, and the man in front of the kids was late 80s/early 90s and wore a hearing aid. I can't even imagine what a popped balloon sounds like through one of those. The entire service, I kept thinking about how popping balloons by surprise and elderly people might not be the best mix. I kept wondering if I should say something to their mother, but didn't. The balloons never broke (I prayed a LOT the entire time), and when they went to children's church they never came back. I'm still wondering if I should have mentioned it to the mother. I didn't want to come off as some interfering old know-it-all, but...

It's basketball finals here in the show me state. Games were canceled last night due to the snow storm and now the championship games are tonight in a town about 50 + miles away. Two very exciting BB games last night! Our girls lost, but put up a good fight. Probably the end of an era for the Lady Mustangs. They have been a team to watch for the last 8 years or so and in the State finals most of those years. Pretty amazing for a little tiny school system.

Our boys won! :yay: Came from behind and won in overtime! And they have done this their last 3 games! Another heart attack game! It wasn't looking good for us, but somehow they pulled together and came out on top! Amazing! Now they play Saturday and if they win are in the final four at State! I so hope they win and make it. Their coach made it to that point 3 years in a row and his team has done the same the last three years! He deserves to make it this time!

GO MUSTANGS!

Finally back on the Border after a week or so away. I was checking in a bit but not able to find the time or ambition to post. Especially when I saw all the threads that I had to get caught up on. Someone's been a very busy Borderer going through the old threads and bringing them forward. I may never be able to catch up here, but I'll give it my best.

Just want to ask all of you to keep my hubby in your thoughts every once in awhile. He's dealing with some major back issues right now and it hasn't been going so well. He's had back issues pretty much since I met him 27 years or so ago but they've gradually gotten worse over the years. They all stem from, believe it or not, a broken elbow at the age of 6 that he had to have surgery on and wasn't fixed correctly. Over the years, he's had to compensate for the bad elbow and not being able to utilize it like he should and it has thrown his spine, hips (they're over an inch difference), etc... off and now with maturing age, and the typical deterioration of the disc also, it's gotten bad. MRIs show that he has disc fused together, slipped and deteriorating and pinched nerves, etc.... He had some work done in August that they weren't sure would help or for how long if it did and it only lasted about a month and back to the problems again.

He's now working with a Chiropractor (despite his doctors objections) and he's having some good days periodically now so it seems to be working a bit. He's gone to one before years ago and it seemed to help so we thought why not try again. He's also wearing a Tens Stimulator which gives him some relief.

Some of the things he's been told the last few months have been hard for him to swallow and he hasn't been easy to live with at times. He's been told that he needs to get a cane but only has to use it if he knows he'll be standing around a lot (he seems to be better when mobile) or doing a lot of walking or in a crowd and also that he needs to expect to be pretty much disabled eventually but depending on treatments and how he takes care of himself will determine when.

My husband is not one to just sit around and has to pretty much be busy with something all the time so hearing that stuff, especially at the age of 49 isn't easy to accept. One of our favorite things to do is go to auctions and we tried one a few Saturday's ago and with all the standing around, we left after awhile (had to force him to) and he suffered for it the whole next day. Last summer, we attended a couple of concerts and they did him no favors either so I'm thinking our concert days may be about over. That bothers him because he knows how much I love them and won't go without him or by myself.

So anyways, thanks for listening. I needed to unload this to someone. Know what I mean?

Willie, sorry to hear about Larry's back problems. It's rough when your back is painful...it affects so much of how you can live your life.

Hopefully, he can find a therapy or doctor that can help him out and give him some relief. Therapy, pain specialists, etc. have come a long way.

My brother broke an ankle when he was 7 years old (back in the mid 50's) and it wasn't set correctly. He now has, among other orthopedic issues, one leg that is shorter than the other. Now that he's in his 60's he's having a ton of problems and just had surgery last week to try to alleviate some of his discomfort.

It never slowed him down much. He played multiple sports and had shelves full of trophies and awards. Now that he's older though, he has trouble just walking around. I feel bad for him.

Good luck to Larry!!!

Thanks for all your thoughts, everyone!! It means a lot. Like I said, we take it all one day at a time and right now he's having some good days and the therapy and chiro seems to be helping some so we'll take that for sure and consider it progress.

TBF, I'm so sorry to hear this. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. Can I ask what type of doctor he's been seeing for the back issues? An orthopedics type or some other kind?

He's got an ortho doc, his regular doc, a few therapist, chiro and pain management he's dealing with. Some of them have helped more than others. The therapy seemed to be the biggest disappointment for the money. Some doctors want to do nothing but give pain killers which is ridiculous--all that does is cover up the pain when what he needs is a way to keep the pain from happening or at least at bay. He's willing to try almost anything but surgery will be a last resort because of all the research we've done and people we've known that have had it done, it's hit or miss rather it works or not.

My Mom had chronic pain from 5 forms of arthritis and I know what it's like for someone who has to deal with it. She had a pain management doctor tell her one time that on a scale of 1-10, her pain without pain medication was between a 15-18. One doctor told her just a couple years before she passed away, "you know you're addicted to pain killers, right?". She told him of course but don't you dare take them away. That doctor told her no way he'd do that because that was the only thing that kept her upright. So seeing hubby go through a lot of this is not new to me but not any easier either.

I am bouncing off of walls!! OK, not really, but I'm still pretty happy!!!

I can't remember if I've mentioned this before, but a year and a half ago I had to take a pay cut to keep my job as well as agree to no raises for three years. Do I like my job that much? Not really, but I believe in the overall mission of our project, plus I get to work at home. In addition, before that, the boss I had previously believed in giving out raises equally across all team members, which meant our appraisals were even across all team members. Not this boss! I did my self-evaluation and he rated me higher than what I rated myself! And...happy happy happy, I got a raise!

Of course, the money is much appreciated and even needed, but I have to say that what I'm most happy about is finally having an 'honest' performance evaluation and have it be so high. Sometimes that pat on the back is worth its weight in gold. Having him tell me how much he really appreciated me taking on the extra tasks and going the extra mile almost made me cry.

TBF, I'm so sorry about your husband's back pain. Here's hoping he can get it managed quickly. I'm a believer in therapy because it worked for me a few years ago when I hurt my shoulder. I'm sure every case is different though. I hope he can take care of it without the knife. I have back pain myself (pretty minor) that flares up sometimes, which is pretty minor compared to what he must be going through. I've never gone to a doctor for it. My husband can hardly walk sometimes, but he refuses to go to a doctor too. I'm sure if it got bad enough we would though.

I asked our nephew Sunday at church if he was ready for some rest. He replied, "Rest? What is that? Coach told me to get my ball glove out and we'd throw! All we can do is move on! Track practice in the morning before school and baseball practice after school!" I told him there was no rest for the weary!

Congratulations. You deserve it.

Congratulations VA. Great news.

I didn't mention it, but I also got a raise in Feb. I'm only there since Oct. & everyone gets a review & raise in Jan, but they said I was only there for 3 months so I was not getting a raise....Well, I was told that I would get a raise in Jan when they hired me, & I thought my salary was too low, so I went to the boss & asked for it. I figured the worst he could do is say NO, but he said he would get back to me. Then a few days later, he calls me in his office & tells me he's giving me a raise, but he wasn't sure yet about how much....So when I got my next check, the raise was a surprise. It wasn't huge, but it was something, so I was glad I asked for it, because otherwise it would probably be another year until I would get a raise...I think I'm doing a good job, so I felt I deserved it.

BROOKE: I'm sorry about the Mustangs! I know you were really hoping for a win this year!

Thanks AMY,

sometimes its just nice "when someone says"I appreciate your work ethic.
Some people have bolw through all their "paid time off " and its only MArch.
I only took the one day when we went to see DH and thats cause I couldnt do 4 hours since I had to get a gal to come in on her day off for me and she wanted the 8 hours.(Understandable)

anyway...Lately its harder and harder to get going in the am..dont know if thats the cold and arthritis or what.....I go in and figure if It gets worse I can always come home. But usually we are so busy next thing I know its lunch time....ooh well.
glad to be off tomorrow and home cause I have things to do here and the weather is gonna not be nice.
Now that business meeting at breakfast on thursday ...?????? we will have to see what the weather brings. after snowing through the night.
I miss the days I workded in a school and had a lot of unpayed time off.

TT, I'm glad they appreciate you at work. Sometimes you really need to hear that!!!

I know sometimes it's also hard for me to get going in the morning & get out there in this freezing weather. Sometimes it's just so cold & windy out there, but I must get to work because I was out of a job for awhile & that was no fun not having enough to pay my bills. I ran up some credit card bills that I'm now trying to pay off & I have an EAGLE HABIT to support here~LOL Yeah & Eagle tickets are expensive!!

GS...are Nationwide tickets hard to come by?

To be honest...I've never tried to buy them myself, always had them given to friends by their bosses, etc. etc...I'm sure they are much easier to get than Cup tickets, especially at Bristol. For several years I had bids to buy frontstretch tickets for the spring Cup race, but had to pass one year, due to "insufficient fundellations"...

Hi everyone. I have been absent this week from The Border, FB and pretty much life in general. A tragedy like I never could of imagined happened at the beginning of the week and I can't even begin to tell you how broken my heart is and how hard it will be to get back to some sort of normalcy.

As many of you know, I watch kids on pretty much a daily basis. A lot of nieces, nephews, friends kids, etc... for the last 18 years. My son was a very sick little boy and I had to quit my job to take care of him and one thing led to another and here I still am 18 years later.

Tuesday afternoon, I went to check on the 4 month old daughter of a friend who was taking a nap and noticed she was just too still. Picked her up and realized she wasn't breathing. I picked up the phone, dialed 911 and started mouth to mouth and cpr. She didn't make it. I have to admit that I don't actually remember much after that--it's all pretty much a blur. The autopsy shows it was SIDS. I don't understand SIDS or how in the year of 2013, with all of the medical progress that has been made, babies still can die from something so unexplainable. Especially since less than 2 hours before that, she was cooing, smiling, etc... and just her usual happy self.

What I have been through this week is just unimaginable. I am trying my hardest to be there for Joanna (her mother). Yesterday was her funeral--easily one of the roughest days of my life. This week, Joanna and I are going to sit down with all the pamphlets we have been given from different sources and decide who we wish to go through for counseling. We've decided we are go to do counseling together.

I am very thankful for all the support from friends and family I have gotten this week. This is a small town and many, many here know me because as one friend has said in the past, I have helped raised the kids of this town. The outpouring of support for me and the babies family has been unbelievable.

I would like to ask all of you to please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers as she has a very long healing process ahead of her. I will be there for her as much as possible while I also try to move forward.

Did you ever have someone at your office that just drives you crazy??? Yeah, well I'm not a this job very long. but it didn't take long for the receptionist at the office to start to drive me NUTS. She is an older woman, & I'm no kid & she's a bit older than me & she has been with the company since they opened over 20 years ago. Well, she is the receptionist , but she seems to THINK THAT SHE IS MY BOSS!!! I had 2 arguments with her just this week.
So far any time I have asked her a question, she answered "I don't know" yet she doesn't hesitate to tell me what to do.

Yesterday, she comes in my office & pulls a really big file out of the filing cabinet & plops it on my desk, right on TOP of SOMETHING I AM WORKING ON... Well. I just let her have it! I was so pissed off. I have a pretty big office & she was going to take the file & do something with it, & she could have placed it any number of places, but NO. she plops it on my desk. She had the nerve to tell me to leave a space on my desk so she can put files there when she pulls them...I was like WHAT????

My office used to be an empty office, so people would come in & use it, but now it is my office & she just doesn't want to accept that. She thinks it is still an office that anyone can use. I don't know... the woman loves to make snippy comments......telling me not to do this or that. Today I went into the office manager & told her that she was treating me really nasty. She said that when she first came there, she used to be very mean to her also. I don't know what her problem is??? Everyone else there is really nice to me. The 2 bosses are both dolls are always nice to me. I don't have any problem with anyone else there. I am at the point of ignoring her. I know this all sounds so petty, but I am just venting! Seems like her job is to make me miserable! I really don't know what to make of it.
Sorry, Just Letting off steam here! Any advice on how to handle her?

Outlawman13
03-14-2013, 11:36 PM
It is good to vent for sure. Man I never liked people like that either. Try to make you the smaller person just 'cause they've been there longer than you. I hope something can be done with her. She needs to be taught a lesson for sure. I had a person do that to me before, but then I told the bosses about it and they gave me shifts where I don't have to worry about her anymore. Just try to get your bosses to do something about her.

Brooke

Tk, sorry to hear about your aggravating co-worker. That's too bad. I would just try to ignore her if you can and let your boss know how she is treating you. I don't really work with her at all, so I will just stay away from her...LOL If I see her in the kitchen, I won't go in there so I won't have to make any small talk!

first ...just because she is rude or whatever doesnt give you the right to stoop to her level. be the better person!!!!Not acknowlging people with a good morning is so not the thing to do you are in a proffessional setting and it just isnt cool......our boss said at one point when things were so bad cause of a few co workers..."I dont care if you hate each other, when you are in here you will act in a professional manner and be cival to each other and no matter how you feel , will greet and acknowlege each other "

My motto is to act and treat others as I myself would like to be treated.
Each patient that walks in the office, is someones mom , dad , or other family member and we as an office treat them as if they were our own family memebers....
You are paid to do your job and be a proffessional.

TT, I was never rude to her. I just want to make that clear. I was always very nice to her.....Several times in the past, I tried to have a conversation with her, but she is just strange....The woman doesn't say "Good morning" to me, unless I say it first. I was nice to her this entire time, even though she has been nasty to me on several occasions for months now. It finally got to me when she slammed a file down on a project I was working on. That was totally uncalled for.

Today, I just stayed away from her, but when we crossed paths we were civil to each other. I'm telling you that there is something strange & odd about her. I can't put my finger on it, exactly. I will deal with her. I like my job, & so far it is going pretty well, so I won't let her get to me.

Well...trying to keep things more positive here...walked out of BB&B store telling a staff member they had LOST my business (he was one of the ones that walked by me without asking if I needed help or letting me even ask!)...so I head to Wally World...and a nice man in a big white truck let me have his parking spot (closer to the store LOL)...:)

Then I noticed a local kids' advocacy group was selling hot dogs/chips/drinks as a fundraiser in a little food trailer, so I couldn't resist--I took home some lunch for me and my mom...thought it was a pretty good idea, set up outside WalMart during one of the busiest weekends of the year (Bristol Races)...

Other things...I'm trying to make some drastic diet/workout changes. The knee just isn't getting better unless I do my PT (even just the first things they gave me to do)...the weight won't come off unless I eat better and cut carbs down (yeah, not such a good job today LOL)...also trying some things like probiotics and cranberry supplements...along with spacing out my allergy supplements from the chiro--if they don't knock a dent in things, it's back to Allegra (don't care to do that every day, blah)...just want to be HEALTHY!!!! :nahnah:

...and TK...all I can do is say to keep being nice to her, say positive things, give complements...who knows, it might just kick in soon that you're not a threat!

I have some weird allergy or something going on with my eyes since last week. My eyelids are puffy & really itchy, so I went to the pharmacy & he told me to take some allergy pills. They are helping a little I guess, but it is still not gone completely. I may have used some eye shadow, or make up remover that is giving me a reaction. It's annoying & I can't wear eye makeup, so it looks pretty bad. Yesterday, I was so knocked out, I took a 2 hour nap...Well, I haven't taken a nap in ages, so I know it was those allergy pills. ..Right now, I'm really tired, but I can't lie down because my laundry is in the wash, & I have to go back to put it in the dryer.

I can't believe that it's still so cold out...What did that darn groundhog say? He lied to us!!

My hygentist noticed my mouth wasnt making enough silva in jan and I had no other symptoms so ....till the lump appeared with a swollen neck and jaw line last week.

This eye thing has been going on for over a week already, so I figured I should go see the doctor.

How old are these Ipods? I had my first Generation Ipod nano for ages, until there was a recall on it, saying the battery could catch on fire!! I was using the thing since like 2002, but they said to send it back. They replaced with the new nano last year, so now I have the mini size one, but to be honest, I liked the old one better....Then l found one in the street, that was I think 5th or 6th generation nano,. so I now have a back up.

Funny story, when I found that nano, I put an ad on Craigs list to try to return it to the owner because it was a really nice one....About 5 or 6 people tried to claim it, but none were the real owner, just people looking for FREE STUFF on Craigs list. When I asked them to describe it & what music was on it, not one of them gave the correct answer! lol

TK, I occasionally get 'bumps' on the underside of my eyelids from allergies. Two years ago, the eye doctor told me to use some allergy eye drops, which was a pain since I wear contacts. You should still get checked out and get an initial diagnosis, then if it happens again in the future, you'll know what to do right away. Unfortunately, as my eye doctor described it, the body remembers allergic reactions to various things and repeats it the next time you come into contact with whatever it is you're allergic to.

I had eye allergies a few years ago, but it was different than what I have now. It was more like teary watery. He will probably give me some allergy drops which I'm sure will help because I can't keep taking allergy pills, they are making me too sleepy!

I had something funky with my eyelids last summer after I first got my contacts...the eye doc gave me some kind of steroid cream and it was gone in a flash...maybe you need something like that...

Yuk on the eye allergies. My eyes water a lot especially in the morning and at bedtime. It's probably my face cleanser. I use regular eyedrops and that seems to help.

My ipod was 2 or 3 years old. Maybe 4. I really can't remember but I was a hold out and never had one before. Now I'm missing it terribly!

TT, So glad to hear that Lucas is doing well....That's great!

Brooke, If you call Apple, they may be able to help you, either put a new battery in the ipod, or tell you how to have it fixed. They have really good customer service...I couldn't believe that they gave me a brand new Ipod for mine that was about 8 or 9 years old. That was a recall, but it lasted a really long time. It shouldn't die after 3 years. My old one was still working when I turned it in. I didn't even want to part with it because I was so nuts about it. That first one had features on it that are not on my newer one...Like some cool games & different settings for the music & some other stuff.

Yesterday after work and all evening, I finally worked on my income taxes. Good thing I did with all the concert announcements! As I gathered things that I had been saving in a big pile on the desk, I opened a letter from my mortgage company. They sent it well over a month ago and I assumed it was the interest statement and tossed it on the pile. It wasn't! They sent me a refund on overage for my escrow account!! I was very happy about that, but not happy that I hadn't opened it sooner. Then eight hours later I saw the concert announcement for DC! Now I know what to spend it on...

The moral of this story is that you should at least peek at your mail, instead of assuming you know what it is!

Amen to that! Always nice to GET money this time of year!

On a similar note, I received a call yesterday from an area code in Washington state. I usually don't pick random out-of-state calls up but this time I did. It was AT&T executive customer service responding to the angry letter I sent about a number of undisclosed fees when I changed my phone plan. Long story short I got a nice apology and a $75 credit on my account.

VA. Wow, What a great find in the mail pile!! A check!
PFD, Sometimes it does pay to complain...I usually don't because it gets me aggravated! LOL

My boss did my taxes yesterday & I was surprised that I will be getting a REFUND this year because I was not expecting it! So that means an Eagle concert is in my future! Now, if I can get him to finish & E-file it for me...They are crazy busy here

Went to the eye doctor yesterday & he said I have some kind of irritation, so he gave me some prescription drops. It's feeling a little better, but now he tells me I need to have some small procedure done on one of my eyes, so I'm not too happy about that. I have to go back April 1st, so I guess I will deal with it then.

Meantime I have this funeral to attend on Sun. I know it's going to be pretty bad. This was a sudden thing. She wasn't feeling well, so they took her to the hospital, & she walked into the hospital & she had a heart attack there. They said many doctors were there & worked on her, but they couldn't save her. This woman has a twin sister, so I feel so bad for her. They were very very close.

VA - They shouldn't. They were "activation" fees and prorations for changing from an individual to family plan. I was assured my bill next month should be normal.

I had to get talked into getting an Ipod years ago, now mine goes with me everywhere I go. I feel your pain, Brooke. If I die tomorrow and people look at what I have on my Ipod, I wonder what they will think...the other day I downloaded Kid Rock and the Cowsills.

tk-sorry for your loss. Heart attacks in women can present with a pretty strange set of symptoms. I'm sure it was a shock for the family.

Austin-I noticed your Les Paul signature. You're in Illinois? Not too far from Milwaukee. Have you ever been to the Les Paul exhibit at the Discovery World Museum in Milwaukee? It's awesome...even the Eagles have a signed guitar in the exhibit.
