TT - Lucas is one blessed child! He has so much love in his life. I can tell he has stolen your heart! Hope we get to see him in his wedding attire.
GA - Enjoy the many celebrations & also take care of yourself during this hectic time. I will keep your dad on my prayer list.
Zelda - Get out the ruler and the guys' music! Hopefully your friend is a quick learner! ;-)

GA - hang in there! I know it must be stressful!
I finally finished my room and that took me about 2 months. First I had to remove all the paper-hanging (took me long enough), please remind me never to put that stuff on a wall again! It was horrible to get rid of it. After that I started painting one wall grey and all the others white, I ended up with re-painting every wall 3 times before I was satisfied :p
When everything was dry I moved in a new bed and I mounted a wooden board at the wall in front my desk so I could hang up my vinyl singles.
The biggest challenge I had was to figure out what I wanted to hang on my wall behind my bed. At first nothing, after that I wanted a big poster from New York in a frame and so on. I couldn’t make up my mind. When I went to the local record shop I saw some Eagles album with good looking album covers (the one’s I had didn’t look all that good). I bought them and asked my dad if he had some frames I could use. He looked and found three identical frames on the attic. With a little help from my dad we made our own framed Eagles albums! The recently bought albums look really good in them! And know my room is finally finished! Tell me what you think of it ;)

Thanks guys for all the compliments :-)
Feels really good and I'm proud of the result (thanked my dad over a hundred times today).
zeldabjr: normally it's a bit more messy, kind of cleaned up the place yesterday lol. Painting the walls was quite relaxing (never knew that) :p But I don't know if I'm ready to paint just yet, maybe in five or ten years from now I’ll help you :p
Tiffanny Twisted: Eagles decorating 101: that's what people should learn in college!
sodascouts: We do have a spare room next to mine, but there are no framed albums on the walls there...
Outlawman13: Too bad I'm not studying to become a room decorator (or something like that), I'm just a simple history student trying to become a history teacher one day... Maybe in the future I'll help you fix up your room :p

w89, LOVE your new room! Everything looks just great! Well done!
I know what you mean about removing wallpaper too. I have done it some and it's a horrible job. A house we built back in '89 was completely wallpapered and my aunt now lives in it. It was 'the thing' to do back then. I can't even imagine having to remove a house full of wallpaper! I won't be buying it back!
Ga, hope your Dad is doing ok.
I'm having a week's vacation this week. Stay-cation I guess I should call it, because we aren't going anywhere.
Saturday I helped my husband rebuild our front porch on our house. It had a concrete floor and the drought last year caused it to settle in to the basement wall and actually cracked it, so we had to tear it out, fill in with dirt (I can't even count how many wheel barrow loads we hauled-ugh!) and then rebuild a wood floor. This week I have to repaint the posts and trim. The floor has to cure before it will be stained. The cracked wall has yet to be dealt with.
Sunday our triplet nieces and nephew graduated from high school, so we went to that and their party afterwards which was nice, but the school was soooooo hot for that! I knew it would finally warm up and summer would come for that. It always is miserable for it. I know their parents never thought that day would come, but they've done a terrific job with all their kids (5 total) and they survived it! One of the nieces was salutatorian and the nephew was right smack behind her keeping her on her toes!
Yesterday I spent the day in town running various errands.
Today I have been fiddling with my stupid computer so far! My router keeps acting up and I keep having to restart everything. I finally unplugged everything and started over. So far, so good!
Window washing and painting the front door are coming up later in the week! :yay: Not! Sometimes we just have to do what we have to do!

Enjoy your staycation, Brooke!
I had an interview this morning. Unfortunately I was just pipped to the post, but the headteacher spent ages with me on the phone afterwards and gave me awesome feedback. He said that my interview was absolutely fantastic and, had it been down to the interview alone, there is no doubt that I would have got the job. It just came down to one or two little picky things in the lesson on the day. HOWEVER, he is anticipating one more member of staff leaving, and he said, if that happens, that he will phone me and offer me the job on the spot. I am SO hoping this happens! Even if it doesn't though, I'm feeling good despite not getting the job. His feedback was genuine and a real boost, and he told me that I beat sixteen strong candidates to get to second place so I should take nothing but positives away from it. We'll see what happens... but I do feel good, and best of all, my planning is done for tomorrow and Thursday so I can actually put my feet up and relax a bit tonight. Woo hoo!

OMG Brooke, I would NOT call that a Vacation or Staycation in any way! I'd call it 'taking a few days off to get the house in order!!'. Whats a Salutatorian..... ? (Excuse my ignorance)
Dads doing OK thanks but his memory is starting to get worse again after being on a plateau for a while.
Troub! Kudos for that interview. I really hope that they will call you back to that school. I know you've said it looks a lovely school to teach in.
We had a lovely day yesterday for Laura's confirmation. The ceremony was lovely and we had a meal and a party afterwards. Also it was the warmest day of the year so far. I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

-------
This week has been a mixed bag for me. Some great days but yesterday sucked. As you all know, my mom had back surgery in April and yesterday she worked herself up in stress over missing work and ended up falling on the floor and briefly passing out. Very scary to say the least - we took her to the local ER and called her surgeon and the surgeon said it's unlikely to affect her surgery, and it wasn't likely caused by the surgery. The ER doc did blood tests and a EKG and it was all fine so we think it was a very bad panic attack that caused it. Needless to say, we are worried that she screwed her spine fusion up. She goes tomorrow for scans and to meet the surgeon anyway, so we'll know soon enough I suppose.
In other, but more positive news we are calling around and are going to have a pool installed. Our little cheap pool bit the dust this year when my dad was mowing and threw a big branch into the side of it. So we are going to get something a bit less disposable, although it will obviously cost us more but it's worth it. Going to go look at them on Friday afternoon.

We are just so excited and have hoped for this for so long! Our daughter is 35 and isn't interested in having kids, so we were waiting on our son to get ready! Our son is 30 and he and his wife will have been married two years in July. Dnl is just about 8 weeks along, so it's very early. They are thinking late January or early February. They actually told us on Mother's Day which made it my best mother's day EVER!
I'm thinking I will be Grammie since they already call me Grammie to their 2 cats!
I also told my son that I hope he gets a little boy that is just like him. He deserves it! Dnl's mother told her the same thing! We had a laugh about that! Can't wait to spoil and send home! :blueblob:

GS - Sending thoughts and prayers. I had to have a diagnostic catheterization last year when I was having unexplained chest pain upon exertion. Echo (ultrasound) was fine, CT of chest was fine, and EKG showed ischemia (not enough oxygen getting to the heart) so I had a cath. I was very nervous but I asked to be sedated, normally they don't at that center but as neurotic as I am, I asked for it so they ended up giving me two doses of it before it started and the next thing I remembered with the doctor showing me the films saying he can't find anything wrong. I still get them, but at least I know it's not from my heart. He said the lack of oxygen might be respiratory and just not breathing enough and I do have asthma so it was never investigated any further.
TT - Hope the tests come back okay!

GS, I'm wishing you dad the best of health. It must be hard to live that far away when a parent is aging and their health is declining. I had a wonderful day with my Mom and Aunt yesterday. After lunch we went to a couple cemeteries and put flowers out. We then drove down a few back roads to see where some of the old home places used to be. Most are gone now and either grown up in brush or replaced with new buildings. Kinda sad. I now wish I had pictures of those old homes. Must check with my Mom. She might have some.

Dad's blood test came back OK, now he's sitting in a room waiting for a stress test. If he passes this test, they'll start looking at his gallbladder. Meanwhile, he's not a happy camper to still be at the hospital.
Brooke, I remember always getting flower boxes together to take to all the graves of relatives for Memorial Day weekend when I was a kid. My mom and aunt still do it every year. The last few years, they've been late getting it done and so mom was so happy to have gotten the flowers out on the graves this past Tuesday! Well, they had a big freeze last night and now she's not so happy...

Yes, well, the stress test wasn't the most successful test on record. He has a 'narrowing' in a vessel at the bottom of his heart. He needs a heart cath. and they can't do it until Tuesday. They want him to stay in the hospital until then, he doesn't want to stay. They compromised on another 24 hours and 'we'll see'.

I had a wonderful day with my Mom and Aunt yesterday. After lunch we went to a couple cemeteries and put flowers out. We then drove down a few back roads to see where some of the old home places used to be.

Wow! Amazing how fast this thread moves in just a few days.
Thanks everybody for the great wishes for Laura. I will get the pics up this week. It has been a very stressful time at work as we finish up the year. I will have more time and access to photobucket this week.
The 'confirmation money!' went on a bag, a build-abear and an iPad mini!
Means she won't have to keep 'borrowing' mine.
GS and VA I hope both your Dads are ok. Sending them prayers. And to Lucas and Austins mom too!
And Brooke! Many congrats on your impending Grannie hood! I hope everything goes so well for your son and daughter in law.

Laura got those things herself OM! With a little bit of help from me for the iPad. She had her heart set on the 32GB but there were none in stock so I gave her a litte extra to upgrade it to a 64GB.
Its a tradition that family and friends give cash as a confirmation gift to these kids. But she DID spend it wisely IMHO. She keeps her electronic stuff well so I imagine she will have it for a good few years.
Heres a pic of the lady herself.....

It is something I have done for 13 years since we moved to this area.LOL, we went to enjoy the show and as we were leaving the one lady at the booth we were at was complaining about not having enough help for the next days shifts and JAhH volunteered me since I wasnt working as they say the rest is history.
People come from all over the country for the two week compitions as well as the country fair part which is where I voulunteer. The show is 117 years old.
it is also something I went to as a child when my grandpop would get tickets to support the hospital (we lived in the city then).
Having done it when it rained , when its humid with no breeze , windy or freezing cold..lol I was greatful yesterday for the weather and it was beautiful when I went back over this am and the place was wall to wall people...now last year i think they gave over $350,000 to the hospital for things that their budget doesnt cover (new equipment in the er or nicu or surg center just to mention a few...) SO , maybe it makes sence why it is an important event to me to support .

VAisForEagleLovers
05-28-2013, 11:26 AM
Yay, Luke!!
Well, just got a call from my sister. I think I mentioned that my dad's stress test turned up a 'narrowing' in a vessel. He had the heart cath this morning and it was determined he needs triple bypass surgery. He was told to get with a doctor in Pittsburgh within five days and schedule the surgery, so it sounds like I'll be making a trip to PA soon. In the meantime he's not allowed to climb stairs more than twice a day and his alcohol is limited to two a day. We won't discuss how much he usually drinks.
My stepmother is a bit rattled and I think she'd like my help in all this. Due to the fact that I have allergies at the moment that give me laryngitis, I can't even talk to either of them over the phone.

Brooke, yes, I was hoping that and I think he didn't get it much thought. They'd cautioned him that the 'narrow' place might need a stent. They mentioned a bypass like it was a possibility but unlikely. I haven't talked to him yet, it's so annoying that all I do is cough, and of course he doesn't do email, texting, and certainly not Facebook! Debbie just posted on Facebook that he'll be going to Conemaugh (near Johnstown) instead of Pittsburgh, so obviously some things have changed.

I am so mad I can hardly stand it!! I can't remember if I mentioned her or on FB, but my recent trip to San Antonio? I forgot to get gas before returning the car? I remembered once back at the Hertz lot and so I asked if I could leave again and come back. The return agent said 'the gauge hardly moved at all, don't worry about it, we'll let it go.' Well, got an email from my company today rejecting the gas charge. I'm thinking, 'what gas charge?' Sure enough, it's on there. The guy put it as 3/4 full and it was nowhere near that low (it was a Nissan Versa and I drove a total of 25 miles, all highway, so that's not even a gallon of gas used). The charge is $27+ dollars, and my company is pretty emphatic that they don't pay for gas at the rental return place. I can't believe, when I asked to leave and come back, that he lied to me about charging me, then lied about the fuel level. He also put in the wrong mileage, saying I drove 240 miles! I will never, ever rent from Hertz again. I can't believe he lied to me.

I told them it was my bad for not reading the receipt while I was still there, that I hadn't felt like fishing the reading glasses out. Then asked if that was why the print was so small to begin with, so that no one read it. I told them I was posting it on FB and that I'd already posted on a 'well-read message board' and they could kiss their word of mouth advertising goodbye. Still, besides the $27 charge, what really burns me is that he lied to me.

VA, that really sucks, but it's worth a letter saying what happened to the company, after all they are a big deal and want to keep their reputation.
Last car hired in Portugal came with full tank of petrol, for which we were charged up front as an extra, on the understanding that it would be returned empty. They know that most people on holiday are only going to use their hire car to get to their accommodation and back. I've read that disgruntled customers have sat outside the rental office with the engine running until the fuel runs out, just to make a point.
Getting wise to car rental, now take photographs of any damage on arrival and return, and of mileage.

VA, You have to ALWAYS read your receipts, no matter what the person is telling you. I have also learned that lesson the hard way...The problem with your story is that you have no real proof of what you are saying...If they put down the wrong mileage, I'm not sure how you can prove this. The guy will say, that was the mileage. It will be your word against his. Go ahead & complain, but it may even be more frustrating for you.
I use Enterprise to rent cars. They were always very honest & they send a car to pick you up. Use them next time!

It was a flat fee, so the mileage doesn't really matter, it's just further proof that they don't know what they're doing (after all, I guess it could have been the person at the counter who wrote the beginning mileage wrong). Anyway, I'm not out to prove anything at this late date. Just letting them know they lost a customer. Unfortunately, my company has a contract with Hertz, so next time I have to travel I'll still have to use Hertz. :(

I think it's definitely worth a call and good that you sent an email letting them know what happened. In all fairness, I'll share with you the reply I got from Hertz today. They put a credit equal to the gas on my credit card, said a bunch of standard things about being sorry they didn't high standards of service. Then,
Apologies are seldom sufficient when customers receive poor service, and we regret your inconvenience. Every effort will be made to serve your future needs in a manner more consistent with your expectations and our standards.
I just emailed the guy handling the expenses with the customer and let him know I have to redo the expense report AGAIN. Still, I'm more glad that Hertz wanted to fix this and with more than just a credit.

As some of you may have seen on my Facebook, I have a ruptured eardrum caused by an ear infection. It started with sinus infection, then tonsilitis, then spread to my ear with an infection that basically disintegrated my ear drum. I can't hear a thing in my life ear. On Vicodin every 6 hours for pain. I'm really scared about my hearing. Being a guitar player and a music lover, it's very important to hear and I have some important gigs coming up in the next couple of months that I have to play. To say I'm scared would be a dramatic understatement. The prompt care nurse practitioner said to go see an ENT doctor once the infection is cleared up to see about having it "patched".
In other news, I got 4th row seats in the center for the Eagles in St Louis in October! :partytime: It'll make my 2nd Eagles concert. First was September 2008 in Chicago. Let's hope I have 2 ears working for that show as I can hear about less than half of what I did before it ruptured. I may consider having it surgically fixed if it doesn't heal by then.

VA continued prayers for you and your dad.. I will light a candel for you both.(St Monicas loves me...she sees me coming ..lol
Now about the rental car company...the custormer or the patient is always right. Dont mess with such. If you are dissatisfied , you will tell everyone....they cant afford that bad press. I am glad that they resolved it to your favor..sorry about the additional paper work ..expence report.'
Austin ..ooh so sorry you are going through so much. Have faith. I had issues with my ear and hearing as a result of medication they had put me on. I had lost over 40% hearing in one ear. I could bearly hear people in my office talking to me with all the other outside machine noises in an office. (and one of the things I do is answer the phone and trouble shoot) I could hear their voice but not understand what they were saying which was so frustration.
Think postive be a compliant patient vs a non compliant pation and follow the advise of your pratcicionar. I am so very sorry that you are in pain. Try and use the time to rest and relax as much as you can.
Now my monday started off crappy.
I love going to work on a monday (not) . But the computer guy found a really cool eagles group shot for me and it was on my two computers at work...Well , we are a 7 days a week practice. and SOMEBODY removed my pictures on my desk top of the boys, I guess you can imagin the cursing and the screaming at 7am this morning when I couldnt do my usual "good morning boys as I blow them each a kiss"..which is how I stArt my day off on the right foot. ( I am the first one in the office in the am SO NO ONE SEES ME DO THIS RITUAL.lol ) (When I punch back in after lunch its just "Hello boys ..glad to see you "no kisses cause there are people there. lol)
Then the day went down hill from there ...But one of the "kids" saw the picture was missing before she realize I was upset and she said "Now thats not right.Where are the dudes on your computer?' Kind hearted soul that she is she sat right down at my desk while I was getting all the other office equiment going (coffee pot falls in that catagory too) She found an equally cool picture and a whole bunch others she down loaded for me and put in a folder. Wasn't that just the kindest thing for her to do.\??
So day got better after I had new eagles picst to smile at all day..
Lucas is teething and only wants his momma (lol) Like I havent lived through that one with my kid before..lol
Hope all who are sick or hurting and all those who take care of them and love them are doing well..Prayers for all

SC, have you had one before? I had one nearly ten years ago and have to have another one soon. The job I had then was stressful and a lot of hours (imagine that) and I actually looked forward to the nap! I got into the room and told them not to wake me unless the place was on fire. Slept through the whole thing. I worked from home then, too, and was back at the computer four hours later.

Once you get to the magical age of 50, you're supposed to have a colonoscopy every 10 years. I've had my first one. Prep was quite an experience. The procedure itself? Piece of cake.

06-05-2013, 08:35 PM
thanks guys, At 48 I have had the pleasure of 8 colonoscopies. This will make number 9. I was officially dx with Crohn's in 09 after a 15 day hospital stay. They had been tip-toeing around the dx but it was always Crohn's. Just seems like the last few years it has progressively gotten worse. When I get a bad flare, it causes pancreatitis because of the area of inflammation. I get a new kind of prep, supposed to taste like orange crush and I drink one 5 oz glass of it and then 2 8 oz glasses of water then 3 hours later do it again. Sounds better than gallons of the other crap.
I do stop eating solid food a couple days before so that the clean out is not as bad.
It makes me nervous when they do it because they are actually looking to see how bad the crohn's areas are and one of these days the doc will be telling me how many inches of colon he will remove. NOT looking forward to that at all.

Ouch, hope this time is good news, SC. My mother had the 'gallons' of stuff, I didn't. So she asked her doctor and he said, "Oh, well, we could do that instead, if you'd rather." I really thought she'd hurt him. Mine was a teaspoon of something in three glasses of ginger ale or white grape juice, twice.
What I find odd is my aunt had colon cancer. They caught it early, no radiation or chemo. Her son died from it three years ago. Her doctor told her that a test every five years was good enough. Seems like it should be more frequent.
