WELL. I AM DONE WITH HIGH SCHOOL.

I should have put more effort into my Algebra but I suck at math and am supper lucky I passed everything else. I did well on my CI, Banking and Modern Literature tests but Journalism and Algebra were bad. I had to pass either Banking or Algebra and I knew I was not going to pass Algebra but hey I passed banking. But my teacher did rounded the grades for my class so I passed everything

Thanks everyone the ceremony is tommorow.

We missed most of Joe last night. The freaking traffic was AWFUL. We live 20 minuets away from the Ampitheater it took us an hour and half to get there the cops did not know how to handle it. Thank God that we did not miss Life's Been Good or Rocky Mountain way. We hear In The City walking in and he was playing Funk 49 when we walked through the gates. :brickwall: I am going to go complain to the City of Hartford for their incompetence

Delighted to report that I got my final degree results a few days ago. I did very well and got a first (better than I'd expected TBH). My graduation is in a few weeks but you can now call me Jonny Come Lately MSc if you're into that sort of thing (or not - I don't mind!).

Also wanted to congratulate TM on completing high school - I remember that summer well, have a great time - and hope that everyone else is well.

Well, it has been awhile since I've been on here. Busy planning a August wedding and my son having major surgery. My daughter is getting married, and wow there is a lot to plan, even being the Mom. My son, poor kid, has to go back into braces at 22 years old, then have reconstructive jaw surgery. I just pray this surgery stops or at the least, helps his headaches that he has had since he was small. He is busy working on graduating in December with a Petroleum Eng. degree. He also goes to summer school and works two jobs. Busy busy. My health took a weird turn in April. I found out I have kidney cysts on my left kidney and a scar on my right. Nothing too serious, the Dr. said a lot of people have cysts and have no clue they are there. But I was getting such horrible infections. Happy to say I am on the road to recovery. Our summer was a slow starter. It has finally warmed up to above 80 and is beautiful. Most of my flower plants did weird things this year with it being so cool and rainy. I just hope it stays nice for awhile, have to have the sunshine. Well that's all for now Peace and Have a Safe Happy July 4th!!

Thanks for the kind words! My degree is in Chemistry - I did a 4 year course with a research project in my final year - this turned out to be a very good call as I got my best mark of the three counting years in my final year, in part because my project went very well (I mention this specifically as some people only did a 3 year course). I plan to continue my academic studies by doing a PhD, probably in Inorganic/Materials Chemistry, which is my favourite and strongest area, which I'll start in late September.

Wow, JCL! You're so ambitious! Enjoy your summer and hope you have lots of fun before you pursue your Ph.D. Are you planning on being a professor or do research along with teaching, if you don't mind me asking? Also, I know you've been on here lately, but I'd like to welcome you back after your lengthy absence. Welcome, JCL!

SweetHolly, congrats on your anniversary!

DJ, hope everything pans out well! Congrats to your daughter getting married soon as well as to your son getting his degree in the fall! Hope he recovers quickly after the braces and surgery. Ooh, the kidney infections must have been so painful, but good thing that you're getting it taken care of!

Thanks everyone for ! Thanks also to Rudie for the welcome back (out of curiosity, how are your own studies going? Or have you finished now?) To answer your question, the research side appeals to me more than teaching so I'd prefer to focus on that rather than lecturing, although I wouldn't completely rule that out at this stage - it's still some way off.

One thing I definitely wouldn't worry about is me enjoying the summer - I've been finding plenty of ways to amuse myself (the weather has even been quite nice for the most part, which is unusual!).

DJ - Best wishes for successful surgery for your son, and good luck on your daughter's wedding. Glad you are feeling better. One of my nephews was married a couple of months ago and I spent a fortune for the dress, shoes, hotel, etc. But, it was a beautiful wedding and so worth it.

JCL, I'm anxious and nervous about transferring to UC Berkeley next month for economics. I'm not guaranteed my major, so I need to get at least a 2.7 in my 2 pre-reqs. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't done on a Bell Curve for the stats class, but I will find a way to get through it. I doubt myself a lot, but it usually turns out well. I like to be pleasantly surprised.

If you do end up teaching in the future, that would be pretty cool. I'm glad that your summer is going pretty well.

Thanks! I've been at Nottingham University for the last four years. I enjoyed my time there (I really liked the campus environment) and I did consider staying but for my PhD I've decided to go to Liverpool, partly because it's closer to home but also because they have had a lot of investment in Chemistry and the other Sciences recently so it's very strong in my field.

Really good luck RCF, here's hoping the pre-reqs go well.

Not just a first (and a masters) but one at a good university!
I bumped into an old friend recently and learned that her elder son is hoping to start a Physics PhD at Liverpool in September (subject to getting at least a 2i so he can get funded). He's just finished an MSc degree at Bristol. My own son, decided to stick with a BEng (in Computing), as he wanted to get out into the real world but many of his friends stayed on for the fourth year.

I hadn't realised that four year degrees were so common. Back in my day, almost all degree courses were just three years but my guess is that's because of how they were funded - when the state was paying the fees and even maintenance grants, there would have been little support for longer courses.

I'm assuming that with a first, you'll have no trouble getting Research Council funding of whatever PhD you choose.

Johnny - Good Luck and best wishes ! The land of the Beatles !

UTW - Interesting as all college degrees here are at least four years. Engineering and Pharmacy are five year degrees. At least at the colleges I know of. I went to Rutgers and both of those majors are five years. I do not think a three year degree exists here. However, you can go summers and graduate early in three years. I had some friends who did this and than went on to grad school or law school.

Rudie - Good Luck ! I am sure everything will work out. UCB is such a great school. You should feel proud just for being accepted. I am sure a degree from there will go far as you enter the job market after you graduate. Schools like UCB look great on the resume and most certainly get you through the door in a job search.

In Ireland most degree courses are 3 or 4 years long. I did an honours Science degree which was 4 years. But many people in Arts disciplines did 3 year degrees. They work you hard though!! I remember a friend if my sisters did a 3 year honours degree in Ireland. She wanted to transfer to a Masters programme in the USA but was told that with a 3 year degree she 'wouldn't be up for it'. They insisted she did a one year conversion course to get her 'up to standard'. The work she had to do on the conversion course was work she had already done to a higher level in her primary degree!!!

Scotland has had four year degrees for as long as I can remember, but that's because scottish students spend a year less in high school. However some courses will allow students from England or Wales to go straight into the second year if they have suitable A-levels.

I did a three year science degree and we were worked pretty hard compared to the arts students that I knew.

Glennsallnighter
07-20-2017, 06:31 PM
Thing with science though is that practicals count towards the end of year exam results so we could go into each exam with up to 40% done, whereas our Arts equivalents had to do 100 % of their course assessment as exams!!

Things are ok here. Had some various small worries lately but I'd like to think I'm getting towards the end with that. My health is about as stable as it's ever been, and I'm doing pretty good all in all. So I can't, shouldn't, and won't complain.

This should hopefully be my final year finally since after this I only have my internship and the final capstone class for my admin assistant major.

Congrats tm2 and Buffy! Good luck with school this year!

I moved into Berkeley this past Monday for an 8 day orientation, and it has been absolute torture at times. It wouldn't be so bad if activities ended at 8 or 9 pm, but they end at 10 or 11 pm. It's also pretty much nonstop, so I just ditched an optional rally that went from 9:30 to 11 pm.

We did this and it was really cold. My hands went numb. It took 2-3 hours, and I felt really bad for cars that were passing by near the football stadium.
http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/UC-Berkeley-Students-Largest-Ever-Human-Letter-Guinness-World-Records-440754873.html

I know that I shouldn't be complaining, but man, it's draining.

On the bright side, it's really cool to meet new people in a mostly stress-free time. Also, I got into the stat class I was waitlisting for, and I know other transfers that are taking it too. I'll probably drop the one I'm in and just do that.

I'm getting adjusted to starting the new semester too although for a teacher, it's a bit different!

I have a question for you guys:

There's someone on Facebook who I talk to occasionally on there, but I am not really close to.

Lately, she's been posting photos of herself where's she talking about dieting and exercising and she's clearly gone way too far. She looks gaunt.

Is it my place to say anything when I've so rarely talked to her?

I bet she has had other people try to talk to her too.

Its called Secondary School here - Age 12 - 17/18, so I guess it would be equivalent to High School in the USA. There are two 'serious' sets of certificate exams that you work towards, the Junior Certificate after 3 years and (more importantly) the Leaving Certificate when you finish. Its the results of the Leaving that are used to determine if you get a place in University/College afterwards.

Me, I wouldn't if I were in your shoes just because I hate conflict. I really don't want to upset someone, even out of a caring place. To me it still feels like judging, as someone who's experienced comments from friends. For me personally, because of my history with bullying and also a fair bit of bullheadedness, all criticism is bad criticism and some advice I see as criticism. I'm a very sensitive person in that way. So I probably wouldn't respond well. I wouldn't be upset with you openly, but it would be something I'd stew over. That's just me and my personality. I don't handle what I define as criticism well.

However, I also understand the feeling of watching someone do something bad for themselves, and wanting to help him in some way and feeling guilty for not doing something if things would turn bad. In that case, yes it is justified I think.

I definitely think it is up to you ulimately, but if it was someone I didn't know well, I really would feel uncomfortable doing so. It just makes me nervous.

Because I myself have had my fair share of people who barely know me telling me what I should be doing or not doing or discounting my disabilities (which they see as excuses) and it really throws a wrench in my head and puts me into orbit. And I know how I get about it. So in all fairness, I would never do something to cause someone else that combo of anger/sadness, even though most wouldn't react like I do. But the potential is there. Because I can't be alone in that, IMO.

That's tough. She'll almost certainly be defensive I would think. She might not be able to get that you're concerned, and not judging her.

Gah. But it would feel awful to say nothing, as if you don't care. Sorry, I'm of no help. Hopefully someone wise will have the answer. Could you ask her a general well-being question, and not go directly to the dieting issue?

tlr, best of luck in this new chapter in your life!

I had a long weekend with girlfriends in Branson. We had a fantastic time! Friday evening we went to the Pierce Arrow show where my husband's cousin performs. Great show! We have listened to him sing since he was about 3 years old and he's so good! If you ever get to Branson, look up this show!

Saturday we went downtown to the historic district and did a bit of shopping, then went out on the Branson Bell Showboat for a dinner and show cruise. Great fun, lovely evening and dinner and great show!

Sunday morning we visited the Top of the Rock which is a golf complex designed by Arnold Palmer and situated on top of an Ozark mountain. The owner of Bass Pro Shops built it and there is also Big Cedar Lodge next door. Tons of stuff to do there like an Indian Artifacts Museum, trails to walk and golf cart tours through some caverns. There is a beautiful chapel with a glass wall in the back overlooking Tablerock Lake. They do destination weddings there. We decided that we needed to go back there for the whole weekend in order to see it all! Absolutely beautiful! I will try to post some pics in the Every Picture Tells a Story thread later, because words can't describe the beauty of it all!

Yesterday I took off work to babysit my grandson, 3 1/2, and we went to visit my Mom at the nursing home. She is doing so much better since we moved her there! She was amazed with his questions and he was amazed with her remote controlled bed!

My class is going well for me and really glad we don't have that many students in it. I have to give a few presentations later and this will help me, as I don't usually do well with public speaking, and it feels a bit more comfortable for me and already like my teacher since I've had her before.

Hope you're feeling better now Soda.

My summer has been very chaotic. It started out beautifully, weather was great, air was clear. Now all we have is horrible air quality due to all the fires in the state of MT. It's been this way since July!

Couple of bright spots. Our daughter got married on August 19th. And just for that day we had clear blue skies. It truly was a miracle, because a fire was burning across the lake from us, but the wind shifted in our favor. Beautiful day and fun was had by all.
Secondly, on August 2nd my son received a very needed jaw surgery to hopefully stop his migraines that he has suffered with all his life. He is recovering well and is back in College, his last semester. Unless of course he does a Masters program. The College has been having trouble getting much needed software because of the software Co.'s are based in Houston. It will all work out.
So, we have fires raging, Houston has water and now Florida is due to be hit by a hurricane. My brother lives in FL! Ugh, when will this horrid weather end? So on that note, I pray for all the folks and animals suffering through all these natural disasters. You know the saying; You Don't F--- With Mother Nature.
To All, Be Safe and have a lovely rest of your summer. Peace Out.:bye:

Glad the school year seems to be going well for everyone!

DJ, hope it all calms down for you and the fires clear up - congrats to your daughter and best wishes for long-term success on your son's surgery.

Soda, I'm sorry to hear about your recent health scare. Was it from stress or the school year starting, if you don't mind me asking? You sure did have a wild week with the weather and conventions too. I don't know exactly where you're located, and you don't have to say anything. But is Hurricane Irma going to affect where you live, like Harvey, I presume, did?

Nah, I don't get triggered by stress like that, thank God, or I'd be in bad shape! However, if I get intensely upset - the kind where you're sobbing and gasping for breath and your temples are throbbing and you're red as a beat and all that - well, I should probably get myself a glass of water.

Harvey was indirectly responsible for my seizure, though! Because I used to live in Houston, my neurologist is located there. I needed her to OK a prescription renewal, but her office was closed for several days. I took meds from my "emergency stash" in the interim. The only problem was that the pills in my emergency stash hadn't been replenished in over a year. I found out the hard way that Lamictal that's over a year old doesn't work very well.

Irma is coming my way, but it's been downgraded. We don't expect anything too terrible by the time it gets where I am.

Soda - So glad you are better and things have calmed down somewhat for you. Did you enjoy the book fest ? I have thought of going to one. I must be the only person who watches "Book TV" on CSpan.
DJ - I am so glad you were able to have a wonderful day for your daughters wedding. Those fires are scary.
TLR - Good luck at your new job. It's normal to be nervous.
Brooke & NMB - Happy to hear your Mom's are adjusting. My Mom was in a care home too. She always had a stash of goodies for my nieces and nephews when we took them to see grandma from her bingo winnings.
This weather has just been crazy and the hurricane season does not end until November 15th.

Soda; Glad you are doing better now. Funny how some outdated medication gains strength and others lose it. My brother and family live in FL. They weren't affected to badly by Irma. A couple days with no power, which meant food loss, but they are native Montanan's so they knew how to prepare.

Sorry about your dad, GA. :(

I don't think I've been on here since June, and alot has changed since then.

I finally got my driver's license in August, which means I was free to go to college on my terms since my grandmother has given me her car to use as I please (within reason). I said "was" because my mom moved in with her fiancee 3 weeks ago. I'm now living on my own amd learning how to juggle college and household chores, although I do spend alot of my time at my uncle's.

A few weeks ago, I had an appointment with an orthopedist. I was having ankle pain and trouble walking because of my cerebral palsy. My orthopedist told me that surgery is the only option because it's permanent. The only problem is the recovery period. I can't do college and recover, so I'll have to wait until Christmas break to have the surgery. Until then, I just have to hobble around and wear an ankle brace for support.

College is going great, although I do have a B in class that will probably stay a B because it's an online class, which I hate. I like the class, Sociology, but online learning just isn't for me. I've been elected president of three clubs, History, Political Guild, and Ally Outreach(LGBT). I'm going to four conferences this school year, Washington DC, and I may possibly briefly meet Pres. Jimmy Carter after one of his Sunday school classes.

My bond with four of my professors is growing stronger. It's very likely that my college will get a BA history/government program next fall, in which case, I'll enroll in it. Three of the four professors teach history or government. I have really bocome close to two of them, sort of like an adopted child.

I enjoy most of my classes, except for signing up for two literature classes in one semester. That huge amount of reading has lessened the joy I get of out of reading.

I always loved my poli sci/ gov. classes - it was one of my majors. I could never have taken an on line class - if they had them then-lol. I always liked the class room experience interacting with the class and professor.
Good Luck this semester - it sounds like you have it under control.

I love my political science professor. He's a combination of intelligent, nutty, crazy, and loveable. He's one of the two that I have become the closest to, and he really helped me come out of my shell. I've taken the only 2 classes with him that I can, until the 4 year program is implemented. I should be doing a conference with him in November in Savannah, GA. I plan on minoring in political science.

Thanks, I'm really looking forward to it. This will be first academic conference of any kind. I'm only a sophomore. Most students don't start doing this until their senior year or grad school, so it's an amazing privilege to be able to do this so young.
I live only a hour from Plains, GA. My history professor has done this before, and he wants me and a few others to do it before Pres. Carter is no longer able to.
My major is history, so it's a good combination since history and political science are so intertwined. I'll do a history conference in the spring in Tallahassee, Florida.

I'm taking an econ midterm tomorrow and I'm scared a little bit but somehow a bit relaxed. Like, I should have been studying hard, but I go to office hours and seek tutoring a lot, and I think I've got the grasp of it. The definitions evade me though, but when in doubt, graph it out!

Lol, I just have a stats midterm on the 11th, and then I can't wait to see Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie on the 14th!

At this point, I really wished that I applied for Environmental Economics and Policy under the College of Natural Resources, so I wouldn't have to worry about GPA.

Heck, I'll be happy with a C on this exam tomorrow and then just do better on the next two tests. I know what I need to improve on for next time regarding study habits.

Yesterday afternoon ,my political science professor confirmed that I will be doing a paper on a undergraduate panel in Savannah, in a little over a month. My paper will focus on British public opinion of Brexit post-vote: if it's changed as a whole or within the 4 nations, ups and downs, events that may have changed public opinion etc. (I chose this topic because of my trip to Scotland.) As I said earlier, this will be my first academic conference, but it should be the first of many to come throughout my career.

Congratulations AG95!

BTW: In my opinion, Brexit is a complete farce and has exposed deep social problems in the UK including rampant xenophobia and the utter incompetence of our government. Looking at the demographics of the vote, it tends to be the elderly who voted most strongly for Brexit and the youth who voted against it. In doing so, again in my opinion, the more elderly have sabotaged the future of our youth.

I'm doing pretty well. I've been going for back injections to try to tame my pain down as they don't want to operate yet and I'd just soon not either. But they seem to be helping but I'm at my limit for 6 months, so I'm just hoping it lasts.

I'm going to Florida for my annual trip in a couple weeks, I love going there and it's my yearly getaway, along with going to Current River which is always fun. I might go in March too, depending on my schedule. I try to take the opportunity.

I got a new iPhone 8 Plus and my old one sold already, so that was nice. I wanted to have a better camera for the Florida trip and I didn't like what I saw of the iPhone X anyway, so I passed on that until maybe next year. I recommend the 8+

Been a little while since I did an update about school. My class has been going really well and really like my teacher and that it's a smaller class. There's only 4 other students besides me, but since I'm going into being an administrative assistant it's mimicking what my job might be like after I graduate. It also helps for me giving presentations as it's smaller and I already feel like I know them so helps my anxiety about it. Then I just signed up for what should be my final class for next semester!!! :D I still have to do the internship later but it's so great being so close to finally graduating college. :D

And yes, still editing my next book and also have a new story idea I'm planning to start writing for National Novel Writing Month next month, but only using it to write each day and not the 50,000 word count goal as I don't need all that stress with school too. LOL

I've finally finished the paper the Savannah conference. Now my professor has to edit it. We've got everything else set (hotel, transportation, etc). My professor was kind enough to pay for everything himself. My next etep is to prepare my presentation, which has to be between 5-10 minutes long.

I've also submitted the position paper for the Atlanta conference, which is the week after the Savannah conference. Submitting the paper comfirms my eligibility to attend.

Tomorrow morning, I'll be going to hear Pres. Carter preach in Plains, GA, and I'll get a photo with him afterwards. I'm going with my college's history club.

Tomorrow is also my mom's birthday, so I'll be spending some time with her. She's getting married on Wednesday, but because of college and the kind of nonexistent relationship my stepfather prefers to have with me, I probably won't attend the wedding.

And it is especially so when decorated for the holiday season. I love that so many people get to enjoy that experience every year. And so happy for you that you got to see the mountains in snow! :-D
(Also thankful for your safe travel while there. The snow can make driving in that area especially tricky.)

Awesome shirt Magnolia and would love to see the Biltmore one day. :)

I'm currently on winter break now from college and will be taking my final class next semester with the internship in the summer. So glad to finally be seeing my graduation in store since I'm currently projected to in August.

Hey everyone! Just checking in to let everyone know I'm still alive, just a bit frazzled! We sold our home and bought a small farm and moved over the last week, so I've been quite busy! We are so excited about our new place and I even managed to get a Christmas tree up on Sunday! Hopefully I will get to park in the garage soon! It's full of 'stuff' right now and husband is calling me a hoarder!

I probably won't be around much for the next week or so, so, I wanted to wish everyone here a very
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Lots going on and trying to get ready for the kids to come home for Christmas!

In the last week both NMB and NKIT have welcomed me back. I've been here all along but I've also been busy and haven't had a lot to say. It's still nice to be missed.

The other day, I heard that "Public Health England" are carrying out a review of the "growing problem of prescription drug addiction" and that they're particularly concerned about women in their 50s and 60s. I'm not on any prescribed drugs, but at the moment I can understand why women of my age might be. How are we expected to juggle jobs, home, husband, ageing parents and children while finding time to keep ourselves fit and healthy?

I'd written a lot about what's going on in my life at the moment, but decided I didn't want to put it out there. It could be a lot worse and I'm going on holiday later this week. Sometimes, I think divorce is the answer but I'm joking. I think.

I get it. In the U.S. a recent study has shown an increase in alcohol consumption among women and older Americans and is being described as a growing public health problem.

This night 11 years ago I joined the Border. I made a tremendous amount of friends and have seen shows and visited countries I never would have if I had t joined this lovely group. At that time in my life I was on career break and had 2 small kids Now my kids are teenagers, my son is bigger than me and I’m back working. And my mother is ill and needs help So I don’t get on as much as I used to back then.

But I DO love the times I do get here and have nothing but good to say about the wonderful group of people I have the privilege of knowing here.

I'm probably going to Pass/No Pass an econ demography course because I didn't do so great on the midterm. I could probably pull a B or a B+, but I really don't like the class. If I was a senior, I would just live with it. I just figure taking an accounting course that counts for my major would be an adequate substitute instead of this mistake that I made for convenience. I like accounting for some strange reason.

I also need to go into a mindset to work hard on all of my classes no matter how easy the lecture appears to be. I was burnt out from getting grades high enough to declare econ last semester that I was left apathetic for this one. I'm actually happy that I switched into enviro econ, even though I made econ, since it's applied, not as theoretical.

Those of you who are going to college: forget it.

With few exceptions, you'll graduate (likely with excellent grades), only to discover that there Are. No. Jobs. Period.

We live in a college town -20,000 or so students, and growing every day. Many of those students, upon graduation, discover that they'll be working as a desk clerk in a Ramada Inn, or staffing the counter as a junior teller in a bank. Possibly for years.

Sure, you could obtain a doctorate in some arcane discipline, ensuring that you will have a lucrative and enjoyable future. But remember: you will be competing against the entire world's best and brightest. There are a finite number of PhD positions available, and that number is likely to decrease, as the worldwide economy stumbles on the brink, and funding for science and technology dries up. And the people running the U.S. these days are of such a mindset that they believe gravity is optional.

Anyway, I have a couple of alternative ideas, ways you can make it financially without the expense and difficulties of a college education:

1) Marry someone who is very wealthy. This is a guaranteed shortcut to… well, to great wealth. If you can put up with four years of advanced chemistry, or surrealist Latin American fiction, you can surely put up with a life partner who is a royal pain in the wazoo.

2) If marriage to a multimillionaire is just too mercenary for your taste, try being adopted by one. That, way you don't have to deal with the annoyances and intimacy of actually living with someone you actively dislike. Just show up on birthdays and holidays, and you're good to go.

3) Finally, you can learn underwater welding. There is, and always will be, a huge demand for those who can weld things together on the ocean floor, due in part to the fact that it's an extremely dangerous way to make a living. Last time I checked, the pay for a journeyman, certified underwater welding tech was somewhere around $100 per hour, and steadily rising. Why waste all those years studying law or medicine when you could be enjoying yourself in the depths of the ocean?

So there you have it; three shortcuts to wealth, and you don't even have to buy a semester parking permit. You don't have to thank me; just send me a fat check when the money starts rolling in.

You mildly amused me, since it's so ridiculous that you can't be serious.

From what I hear yes.

You don’t kill Italian’s that easy without a fight. My Grandmother had Alzhimers for 20 years before she passed away in 2014 I never knew her that well but when I was younger it was a little bit better. But she defied the odds the normal Life Expectency is 5 years.

My Grandfathers Dad(The one with cancer) lived to be 100 years old.

My Maternal Grandmother had diffeent sets of issuses mainly heart related. She actually passed in 2016 and what the scary part is that she went one day before the 2 year aniversary of my Paternal Grandmother.

November 10th 2014 was my Paternal Grandmother and November 9th 2016 was my Maternal.

Long story short My family are tough breed. Death doesn’t have the patience for us and he just gives up :twisted:8)

Alright I just need to vent. I haven't posted here in a while.

Graduated last summer from college (27, decided to go back at 23 after taking some time off), either haven't heard back from jobs or have been rejected. Still at my serving job at a brunch place that I started around the same time I went back to college. I'm afraid of amounting to nothing and being stuck not only in the food industry but also the state I currently live in. I have nothing tying me to this place; my gf broke up with me a month before I graduated, my family is ok with me moving out of state, and my friends are all beginning their journeys into adulthood. I just feel as if I haven't been able to catch a break since last summer.

Phew

My greetings to you, dear lady.

Big changes afoot: I'm moving two hours north; I've accepted a new position. After 22 years in Miami, and 14 years with the same employer, it's quite anxiety-provoking, but it's a good opportunity. Moving to a peaceful place, with more trees and less concrete. And did I mention free beach parking?! :yay:

Wow, I just found this post!! Sorry I'm late to the party, but so, so happy for you, NMB!! You're so strong and so brave - I just know that this is the beginning of something wonderful for you! Wishing you much happiness in your new home.

It's a boy! Of course the guys are way excited and us girls are too. I told my dnl that, well, she'd just have to try again for a girl!

Really, it doesn't matter at all. We're just glad to be getting another grand!

Brooke, such good news for you and your family! 💘
I can't wait for the day when I get to experience the joy of grandchildren.

Phew

First, S07, don't feel alone in your struggles. You're in good company.

BUT... the good news is, my lifetime of experience tells me that if you never, never give up, chances are good you will succeed. It sounds trite, but it's true. The race is long.

Stay strong! Good luck!

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

NMB - Good luck at the new job and the move. Wishing you much success and happiness. Your better than me, I don't know if I would move or leave my job after that long period of time.

Warning: Long story ahead.

I had a bad time last Friday. I was at the Jason Aldean concert. I hadn't been feeling myself for about 2 weeks prior and was having stomach pain the day before. I got the VIP package which had a room with games, cash bar with drink ticket, snack table, and a preshow performance area. I was sooooo puny I had to sit down. Well there was NO chairs in this VIP area so I had to sit in the bathroom in a stall just so I could rest before the show. I walked from that area to the arena, and missed the first half of the first openers set trying to get there, feeling faint and sweaty. I got to my seat and stayed there. I tried standing up for my favorite song and fell backwards. I thought I tripped.

Well, as I was getting up to leave I felt WORSE. I made it up the stairs to the exit and collapsed at the top of the stairs. I sat down and a security guy happened to be coming through and saw I was in distress. I said I was having chest pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, and feeling extremely faint. So he radioes in for extra people and they find a wheelchair and take me to the first aid room. There is a nurse there and then I passed out. And woke up. And passed out again. This happened like 3 times I'm told. They took my vitals (I was surprised to see a local arena with monitoring equipment!) and my BP was very low, oxygen was low, and my pulse was fast. Also my blood sugar was very low. After passing out the 2nd time they called for EMS and they came took me in the ambulance and started IVs, got me on oxygen, and put me on monitors and did a EKG. My EKG showed no heart attack (thank god) but a fast and thready heart rhythm. It so happens that the big trauma center is like 5 minutes away from the arena, so they finally took off and there was two guys in the back with me and luckily I didn't pass out any more. I had an adrenal crisis, a life threatening problem caused by a condition. All symptoms caused by this.

Now for the backstory, I have adrenal insufficiency. What that means is I make no stress hormone on my own - also known as cortisol. My fight or flight system is broken. Even a little bit of physical or emotional stress can be dangerous. I have to have mega doses through my IV for any surgery and in any serious illness. I've always been on a lower dose of daily cortisol than normal because it causes weight gain. Well I just saw my endocrinologist (hormone doctor) and he's doing bloodwork and tripling my daily dose of cortisol. It's been happening more often than ever before. I had an adrenal crisis back at Christmastime. That time it was the flu. I also had it with anaphylaxis two years ago when I almost died. Double whammy - anaphylactic shock AND adrenal crisis. If I didn't go to the ER when I did I wouldn't be here.

So I find out the reason I wasn't feeling well is I was running very low on cortisol. I had no energy, bad stomach pain, and some muscle weakness. I was having trouble climbing the stairs in our house. I had lost 30 pounds in 2 weeks and not on a diet. I found all this out afterwards, of course. I had weighed myself about 2 weeks prior. I was shocked. I just felt not myself at all.

I'm feeling MUCH better now and my energy is back where it should be and I have no pain or weakness right now. I'm just waiting on the bloodwork and further instructions from my doctor. I also have an emergency injection kit that I have to take with me everywhere I go, and have to carry it on me. I had a vial and syringe at home but as serious as it's getting, I need to be better about carrying it with me and having extras and making sure to not forget it. I'm also getting a Medical ID necklace made to have on me at all times from now on.

Pretty scary experience. I've had about 5 of these in my life of varying severity and 3 are fairly recent, which is concerning to me and my family. Luckily my dad went with me and was able to relay my medical history and medications to EMS while I was out of it. My mom was also across town shopping so she met us at the hospital as she brought us to the concert and was going to pick us up.

So if I haven't been on the Border lately, that's why. Just been feeling like crap until this week when my meds got changed. Even just the IV steroids in the hospital made me feel better than I had in weeks. Should have went to my MD.

Hey Austin, good to hear from you! I am so sorry to learn what happened. Thank goodness your dad was with you during this medical crisis and there were people at the venue trained and able to provide medical assistance enabling you to get to the trauma center. I am glad you are doing better and thankful you have such a supportive family and doctors.

Take good care!

Blessings,

Dawn
