I have a big meeting in the morning and then the plan was to leave for PA from there. It would normally be a 7.5 hour drive. With this bad weather, who knows how many days it'll take to get there! They are calling for freezing rain there tomorrow and 'heavy freezing rain' tomorrow night, then snow until Friday. Buying this gas-hog of a truck was obviously the right thing to do!

Yesterday & this morning it was freezing here in NYC. The winds were really kicking up making it feel even colder. This morning I think it was in the 20's & that's really cold for Nov. When I came home this evening it was a little warmer, but still in the 30's. I'm so not ready for winter. I hate the cold & we have many more months before it warms up.:fear:

Be careful Va!

The last couple days have been bitterly cold here in IL, but like Brooke, the bad weather seems to be missing us.

For anyone else who is traveling during the holidays, please be safe.

Be careful Va!

I'll try to remember to check-in on Facebook. It's easier than calling or texting the whole family just to let them know I'm still in one piece.

I love your av, MF!

I'm here in Somerset, PA, got in around 8:00 last evening. Eight hour trip with two quick stops, one for lunch and one for coffee. Didn't even need to stop for gas!

The trip itself was miserable. The first hour was dry but even though it was noon, it was very dark out. Then I ran into rain, then snow, then sleet, then feathers. Yes, feathers. The truck loaded down with chickens was in front or behind me for half the trip! The last two hours was torrential rain instead of just regular rain and made for a tough end of the trip. It all turned to snow overnight, and so today I got to go out driving in it. The truck didn't slip a wheel even when I tried to make it spin! Tomorrow I'll go find a big, empty parking lot and have some fun with it.

Wow, I feel for you guys out east and north!

We got 5 or 6 inches Friday night and it was a very wet snow that stuck on everything. And it has remained very cold (17 this morning) and the snow is still stuck on everything! Usually it melts off by the next day. I'm worried about some of our trees branches breaking from the weight of it. No power outages though. A very good thing!

I couldn't handle it snowing constantly and being cold so long. Our winter temps are usually up and down every other day.

Pssshh. Our family was well known in our neighborhood for grilling in the winter. The grill was under the overhang for the garage, so it was game on !! I remember one time when it was snowing like crazy and my grandmother was out there cooking her London broil and cheesy potatoes. Good times.

Oh... as you've asked, normally in late December it is the height of summer and the temperature is in the mid 30s to low 40s (mid 80s to low 90s). It was hot last week. The rain didn't last long and as a result, side streets were still a mess at lunchtime today. My power also went out for several hours but was back mid-morning.

Ugh!! I'm so over this winter!!!! Our average for our area is 105 inches a year. As of last week, the local weather man said we were at 77 inches already. I'm doing the math & figuring we're in big trouble this year. Hopefully it'll all be melted by my birthday in July. Lol

TBF, that's terrible! I can't even imagine! I won't complain about us here in ne Missouri getting maybe 4-6 inches at a time after that! So is everything pretty much shut down?

We have a chance of a little snow tonight and our temps will be falling down to 8 after a high today of 43. High of 17 tomorrow. It's a roller coaster for us this year, warm one day and bitter cold the next. More very cold than warm most of the time though. Crazy!

we left the office at 12 15pm and it took me till 230pm to come home and I live a short 10 minute drive to the hospital but I travel through 3 counties,it was terrible.
At some points , we just sat and sat and sat for up to 15 minutes at a stretch. I had my ride drop me three to four blocks from home and walked the rest of the way since our streets were not salted or plowed. it took her almost an additional 3o minutes to get to her home and again our homes ,are 10 minutes apart:spin:

There is a blizzard warning here with 15 to 25 cm (6 to 10 in) of snow forecast. Kingston, this is the storm that is starting now in your area. It is moving up the coast & is expected to start here around midnight. I've lost track of how many storms we have had so far this winter. All I know is that it is far too many!

Might I make a suggestion??
For Christmas, I got this "charging wallet".
Its a leather wristlet and has a packet that holds a battery that when fully charged will charge my phone twice from dead.
We lose power around here a lot in all seasons so I keep that charged and I am ready to go. Once charged it holds it for a year.

When we had a family emergency I through it in my bag and out the door I went knowing I could charge twice.
pm me if you want purchase details.
I love mine and my hubby says if I use it once then it paid for itself.

This is a family message board, so I'm forbidden to post what I really think of this weather... :censored:

ETA: I just called my brother back in Somerset, today's his birthday, so when I asked what he was doing, I was expecting a good answer, like 'getting ready to go out for dinner'. Instead I got, "driving in a *bleep*ing blizzard. There are people in ditches everywhere and the guy in front of me just ran into a utility pole." Needless to say, we got off the phone quickly, since he was pulling over to make sure the guy was OK. I'm betting he'll spend his birthday night pulling people out of snowdrifts because that's the kind of guy he is. Is it any wonder I don't live there any more?

And I'm pretty over it, even though I did have a very nice break with the 80° temperatures in L.A. I'm just sick of hearing about how it's colder here than it is in most of Alaska right now. Really? It's about 20 here in MT and the wind is blowing 40-50 miles per hour.
We have a bonafied blizzard with a lot of school and business closures!
Usually we have mild winters on the west side of the rockies but I guess not this year. Brrrrr.....

It actually broke 42 degrees here today! :yay: We haven't seen it this warm for many days! We have a warm day then several very cold days and nights.

But, winter storm predicted for Saturday night in to Sunday. Anywhere from 6-10 inches predicted for my area. Then it's headed east! Look out everyone! :brickwall:

What a winter! Coldest and most snow for us for many years!

during autumn and winter it goes from 12 hours of daylight in mid September to about 9 hours in mid October to a little over 5 hours on the winter solstice day(the shortest day of the year 21. or 22. of December) and then again a bit over 6 hours in mid January to 9 in mid February and about 10-10,5 hours now

It's thunder, lightening and hard rain right now at 10:30 pm PST. We need it so bad, so I am happy for it - I love the rain anyhow! :)

I just heard this on a local tv news channel. South Louisiana ( which is where I live) averages 13 days each winter where the temperature drops down below freezing. Thus far this winter there have been 26 days where the temperature has gone below 32! I live 20 miles from the Gulf Of Mexico! It is very rare for this area to see icicles hanging from roofs, tree branches, mailboxes etc. I have seen this 4 or 5 times since January.

I've decided to give up SNOW for Lent... :???:

Today it's mid 40's - close to 60 by the weekend. The snow (which has been on the ground in Cincinnati since November) is gone except for the piles that were shoveled or plowed. It's the second worst winter ever; worst was 1977 - 78, when we had @ 75" of snow, temps were at -25 for a couple of weeks solid, and coyotes crossed the frozen solid Ohio River all up and down its length. We now have thriving communities of coyotes in the Tri-State area (Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana).

But no sand or cactus.

On the UP side...daffodils are up about 2 - 3" and the snowdrops (beautiful little white flowers that grow wild) are all over the front yard

Oh geez, Z! Hang in there!

We had nearly 70 the last two days and last night the temps dropped to the 30s with thunder, lightening, and a bit of rain. Later in the night it snowed a couple inches and the wind is raging! Back to winter for a day!

Bluebonnet season is a BIG deal down here BR. I am happy that you saw some at Hobby airport as they have just started planting bluebonnets in Houston the last few years. Growing up we had to go outside of the city to see them. Now they are popping up everywhere in the city. I see lots on the way to downtown along Memorial Drive. They are beautiful! I just wish they would have a longer blooming period.

BTW Soda, did you know that some botanists at A&M have developed a maroon bluebonnet?

Houston, I hope to someday actually be outside to enjoy the Bluebonnets instead of viewing from an airplane window someday! Funny, I've been to Texas three times, but only for layovers, lol. Austin seemed really nice from the air as we made a stop there, too. I didn't realize Blue Bonnets weren't across the state until a few years ago. Glad I caught them at the right time :)

The weather here in California today is absolutely perfect and it's one of those days that you really wish you didn't have a desk job! I'd really love to be on my Grandma's ranch today and enjoying nature!

Loved it though!

Well, we had summer for a couple days, in the upper 80's and muggy. Thunder storms went through last night and it's now 52. Air conditioning on yesterday, off today! And highs around 60 all week with lows in the 40's. Love Missouri weather!

We've been in the high 80's and low 90's for several days now BUT they're now projecting a POLAR VORTEX is coming in from Canada. Seriously? In July? If we get another early blizzard I'm going to be really unhappy! Stay tuned...

Brooke

I heard about that too, VoL! A blizzard in Missouri in July? I don't think so! :hilarious:

We have enjoyed cooler than normal temperatures the last few days though. 82 right now. Usually it's 90 or above here in July. Plus we are having a rainy summer so far. Last year a drought. This year some rivers are flooding. Back to hot and humid again tomorrow.
