In the word of Mr. Frey. The Heat Is On. With living in the south all my life, I would think I would be used to the hot, muggy weather of the deep south. LOL

Me too; I've lived in Steam City (as the Eagles called it) for many moons but for some reason this year I'm not tolerating "hot and muggy" well. I've been staying indoors a lot, even on weekends, which is not normal for me.

Do we have any Borderers from Southern California or Arizona? It's unbelievably hot there, dangerously hot. I can't complain about the heat where I live when it's over 100 in the southwest. Crazy hot!

Southwest Georgia is getting a 'break' from the extreme heat. It's bad when 90 is considered a break. It's the humidity that makes it almost unbearable. It feels like a sauna and my glasses fog up each time I walk outside . Air you can wear as my local weatherman puts it.

Today is the first official day of summer. I'm dreading July and August because we only have one window AC unit and the cool air from it never reaches my bedroom. My bedroom can be almost as hot as it is outside. I know what Felder meant by his sleeping clothes being soaked with sweat.

Oh my goodness, I can't imagine living without ac! I'm completely spoiled! I hope you can get some relief, AG. Make a bed on the floor wherever that ac unit is!

I suppose it's not as bad here in Missouri, but I can't imagine it being worse! We had 96 yesterday with the heat index over 100. So very close and muggy outside. And we finally got some rain last night! We got a half inch at our house and 25 miles west they got 5 inches! That was a bit much, but we'll take whatever we can get. This is the first rain for us this month!

I always say I rather have the hot, dry less humid heat than the hot, humid and muggy heat of the south. We had a little break, but like AG said. We call 90 degree a break. LOL The mid 90s and probably heat index in the 100 will be back in full force later this week.

I actually did that a few times when I was younger because it's near the kitchen table, and I could make a fort out of it. Now, it's the cats' sleeping place. I'm better off now than I was because I finally had a ceiling fan installed in my room about 18 months ago. Plus, I'm spending some of the days inside a fully air conditioned building.

It's only 90 today. By Friday, it'll be 98, with heat indexes of105+. :help:

The forecasted highs for next weekend are in the triple digits. It's only almost 11 am, and it feels like 95 outside. Can we just skip the rest of July, August, and most of September? I prefer the cold over these sweltering temps.

Come on, you're old enough to think in terms of 70 being warm and 80 being too hot. It's the colder temperatures that get me confused. Zero doesn't seem too bad until I realise that's -18 C degrees.

Lol. I assumed that everyone could figure out that I meant Fahrenheit. Isn't 100 C the boiling point of water (212 F)? While it's not that hot, the old joke about being able to fry an egg on the sidewalk is true.

UtW, 80 is actually comfortable here. (That's close to being the low temps at night.) We start to call it hot around 95 and up. Plus, the humidity and heat index makes it worse. 100 F here will feel 110 F at least. My family calls it "roasting" weather.

We cooled off over the weekend and set record low high temps! It was 58 F Saturday and 60 F Sunday. We actually turned the furnace on when we got home from church just to take the chill off! Unbelievable for July here in Missouri! It warmed up for the 4th to around 80 and the ac came back on! Around 90 now the rest of the week and the lovely humidity.

I grew up in a metric country. I still don't understand bodyweight in pounds and when I was dieting I confused everyone in my weight loss online group by always giving my weight in KG. All I know about Fahrenheit is that for swimming 60degrees F is the crossover between needing a wetsuit and not needing one.

I can't imagine coping with temperatures above 80 F. How do you get anything done?

Here, daytime temperature are in the mid 60s F with a few showers of rain and a glimpse of sun. It doesn't make much difference to me as I'm shut indoors with the windows closed. The grass pollen count is very high and I'm not risking the great outdoors. I'm so thankful for corticosteroids which make life bearable. My son came home from London a couple of days ago and was unprepared - and he's now bunged up and miserable. Generally, I like our temperate climate and that the grass stays green all year round, but this is the downside.

I've learned to just deal with it. I don't like it, but I've been exposed to this weather all of my life. Stay hydrated, be mindful of the sun and what you eat, and take breaks if/when needed when working outside. The quicker you do something, the better, and do things early in the morning or late in the evening.

Pollen is a pain to deal with. Most people here suffer in the springtime, it deal with it year-round, due other allergies that aren't pollen related. I feel for you and your son.

You just deal with it. My husband told me the other day when I left for work to enjoy my air conditioned office! I do feel bad for them on these horrible days.

Yes, the British Summer has arrived. The temperature is on the low 30s which would probably seem like "pleasantly warm" to most of you but for we British, this is HOT!!! We should be back to normal temperatures and a resumption of showers by the end of the week. There's a nice breeze today and apparently, the winds have shifted from southerly to south-westerly which means they are coming in over the Atlantic rather than continental Europe and that means cooler, moist air.

I'm ready for fall to get here. I'm tired of the humidity.

There's a tropical storm heading my way. Right now, it's still a tropical depression, but it'll be upgraded soon. It's strengthening in the Gulf of Mexico. NOAA says it'll make landfall sometime tomorrow somewhere along the Big Bend of Florida, which is to the east of here. My area will get 2-5 inches of rain and topical force winds,(40-50 mph) from tomorrow afternoon until Friday morning.

My American Government professor decided to cancel tomorrow afternoon's class because it'll end at about the same time as the start of the impact.

I guess I jinxed myself there.....Ours went down a couple weekends ago. We got home from working at our son's house at about 9pm and the house was warm......ac not working. Hubby tried everything he knew to no avail.....repairman couldn't come till the following Monday.....went all weekend without (90+ temps plus awful humidity) while moving our son to his house all weekend. (We did have a window unit in our bedroom which saved us!) Repairman came Monday and told me to turn it on and viola! Just a fluk! (Plus I had mentioned to hubby that we might try it again on Sunday and he said there was no reason to....)

Thanks NMB and Brooke. My AC was never broken, though. It just isn't big enough to do the job ! most of the time.

Well, Hermine has become a tropical storm, but now it's predicted to become a category 1 or possibly category 2 hurricane before it makes landfall. The landfall has been pushed back until 2-3 am Friday. My county is under a tropical storm warning. 8 pm tonight until 10 am tomorrow is when most of southwest Georgia will feel the effects of Hermine. I'm on the west side of the storm, luckily. I hope those around Tallahassee, FL and Valdosta, GA stay safe. (Isn't there a border from Tallahassee?)

On the plus side, tomorrow's high is only 84 F!

Be safe AG, I see that horrible storm down there!

We have sunny, smokey skies today and 85 degrees. We have many forest fires around our area. One fire is in Yellowstone Nat'l Park. In 1988 the park saw a record breaking horrible fire. The fire took out most of the park. We visited shortly after it was out, it looked like the apocalypse! So devastating for all the animals. In a black burned out forest, we saw a bull elk just sitting in the pile of ashes. It is a site I will never forget. There is a 25k acre fire north of us that probably will not be out until the snow flies, which might be this weekend. High temps. for some areas is only going to be 47 degrees dipping into the freezing point at night.
Should be fun camping in the woods.....

It's started to rain here, and the wind is picking up. I'm staying the night at my uncle's. His place can handle the tropical force winds better than my place. I hope that I can sleep through it. Wasn't quite as bad here yesterday, there was no thunder and the day started quite nicely but conditions were dreadful in the early afternoon. If I go to the sea front by where I live you can see the coast of traditional Lancashire so the horrendous weather wasn't too far away. I was shocked to see that Manchester City's Champions League match had to be postponed - very rare for that to happen to a top-flight team, even less so in September and for a club with such a modern and well equipped stadium, just goes to show bad it was.

I don't care if Derby goes underwater, although Nottingham getting submerged any time soon would be problematic for me to say the least!

I now feel kind of guilty in saying that the weather is absolutely gorgeous weather here today, very warm and sunny. I'm trying to enjoy it as I suspect as tlr alludes to it will be a long time until I see anything like it again...

That sounds lovely, UtW. I've never been in Britannia during the autumn.

We're watching the track of Hurricane Matthew in my neck o' the woods. One advisory we're in "the cone" (possible strike zone) and the next we're out.

Hoping for your safety and best possible outcomes for everyone in your area.

Watching Matthew. Sad news out of Haiti, of course. Tracking east coast progress. Family in NC, so we're wary. Fingers crossed.

94 F is the current temperature. :unimpressed: It's supposed to be fall now! I'm ready to wear pants and a sweater to school. None of Matthew's outer bands hit southwest Georgia. Some rain would've been nice. It's supposed to cool back down on Monday.

My thoughts are with those affected by Matthew. Southwest Georgia is where aloft of evacuees went. The hotels are full. Mant businesses havr shown southern hospitality. For example, a local Golden Corral gave out free food.

Injuries = take it easy. (Now, where have I heard that before?)

Better to heal and be back into it sometime soon than exacerbate the injury and be out of action much longer.

TL;DR: Get well soon.

BTW: My exploits are modest compared to some. How about Goran Kopp, who cycled from Sweden to Mount Everest, climbed Mount Everest with the equipment he had brought with him on his bicycle, and then he cycled back again. That puts my little cycle rides down to the shops (by comparison) in perspective :)

Nearing 20 degrees above normal here today! 80F today, then cooling to the mid 60's later in the week. Normal for this time of year is 59F for a daytime high.

We have been having weird weather. It went from being very hot in August to complete Fall in September. We have had so much smoke this summer from all our wildfires, it seemed as though summer slipped away! Since September we have had cool weather and rain. It rained all day yesterday until about 5 am today. Then the storm they predicted hit with a smack! Snow, lot's of snow. We probably have 3 inches on the ground and it's still coming. Our temps are suppose to dip really low into the single digits. YIPEE! NOT! We literally have not seen the sun in months. No sun in the summer because of smoke and then when fall hit we get terrible inversions, well let's just say I am taking extra doses of Vitamin D because Mr. Sun isn't shining in Missoula MT. We had a nice Thanksgiving with relatives who live over on the East of the divide and we enjoyed warmer weather and sun for a few days. If you believe in the seasonal disease SAD let me tell you it's true. When the sun doesn't shine for months, one becomes very depressed. Luckily I have my family and pup's to keep me perked up a little bit. Oh and my Eagles music! My son graduated from College on the 8th of Dec. with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. Very proud of him. He will return to Grad school in Jan. for Project Management. He says that way he can be the one telling workers what to do. Ha! He's a good student and since the Petroleum field is slow, it seemed the right move for him. My daughter got hitched in August and is enjoying married life to the fullest. They are currently looking for a home to buy in the country. They already live in a very rural area, but want their own place. Hubby and I are enjoying the Empty Nest, but miss the kids always being around. Luckily they live close enough to visit often. We are planning for Hubby's retirement in about 5 years. So we are also house hunting on the East side of the divide where his parents live and where we were raised. The city we live in has gotten too big for our liking. It will be further from our daughter which is a bummer, but we've lived here 26 years and have seen this town go from a nice regular sized city for MT to a huge city with a lot of change.
My greatest highlight this past fall was receiving a autographed hardback copy of Eagles Take it to the Limit from Randy Meisner. NKIT - I see your question has been answered by tac0mao6. No snowplows in Houston. It is mainly the ice that causes the havoc here. And snow 2 times in 1 season is rare.
I have lived in H-town all my life (over 60 years) & the most snow I have seen at 1 time is 2 or 3 inches.

Stay safe FBT. It really is almost impossible to drive on ice. Snow at least gives you traction until it ices up.Hopefully, people down there will stay off the road.

Thanks. I do not plan on leaving the house unless I absolutely have to lol. All the bridges are still iced over. It was 12 degrees outside when I woke up this morning, with the wind chill in the single digits (and it snowed last night).

According to weather people, it will back in the upper 60s/lower 70s by the weekend lol. Crazy weather!

We are in for another Nor'easter tomorrow. I am in the 6-10 inch range for snow. Last Friday we got 2-4 inches of rain in my area from that Nor'easter. And, my gf just told me another one is expected Sunday into Monday. YIKES. I have not had a lot of snow this winter - I live close to the coast so it lessens the amount if the storm comes from the west, which most have this winter. If it comes up the coast, then I can get clobbered with snow. Hopefully I will not loose power.

No air in our high school either. And my 1972 Dodge Charger didn't have air (that was a luxury!).

My (rich) younger cousin once got into my car and asked how to roll down the window. I pointed to a handle on the passenger side and said, "Crank that." He looked at me like I had the weirdest car in the whole world.

Well for the second time in less than a month, we are experiencing the remnants of a hurricane - first Florence a few weeks ago and now Michael. We've had several tornadoes touchdown tonight and the rain is coming down in sheets along with thunder and lightning and tropical storm force winds. Occasionally, I can hear debris hitting the house and my dogs are freaking out. I hope I don't jinx myself, but I still have power. It went out briefly a little while ago, but came right back on. We still have several more hours of this - the sooner it's over, the better. I can't even imagine what it was like in the Florida panhandle on Tuesday.

I forgot to update this thread. Within just a few minutes of my post the other night things got even worse and I lost my power. I have lots of trees in my neighborhood and several of them fell on houses on my street (but not mine). The only good news about this is because the live power lines were lying on the ground, the power crews had to respond immediately. They worked throughout the night and our power was restored around 4:30 a.m. If not for this, I probably wouldn't have gotten my power restored until yesterday. Crews had to come back yesterday and worked on the lines all day long without interrupting our power. However, the lines that they rehung are way lower than they should be - at least 6 foot lower than the rest of those on the street. I hope they aren't planning on leaving them like that.

But, the bottom line is that it was a pretty stressful experience - not much sleep that night for me or my pups. However, I have to keeping reminding myself how lucky I am compared to those folks in Florida.

That is one thing I've always wanted to do: Go downtown and see the balloons being inflated for the parade. Don't they do that the night before? I can't remember.

We were on Long Island for Thanksgiving the year or two after we were married. I wanted to go into the city the day after Thanksgiving. Mind you, this was 30+ years ago. Hi CAinOH - Yes, they blow up the balloons tonight and it is open to the public. From what I have seen on the news, it gets pretty packed. I have never been to the parade. However, my sister used to be in the parade when she worked for the flag ship Macys in NYC. I can tell you to get a good seat at the parade you would probably have to claim a good spot tonight. That means waiting in the freezing cold all night. I personally don't care for those kinds of crowds - too many people - lol. This weekend it supposed to be crazy in the city. They have issued commuter alerts for the entire weekend. Most people try to avoid the city this weekend.

However, my nephew is coming up from Fla. for Christmas. I know he will want to go into the city as he loves NYC. I have done the Christmas thing in the city so many times before. Hope we can at least go on a day that is not freezing cold.

We've gotten a lot of rain this year too. Although the most recent was unwelcome, at least it did melt most of the snow.

And our weather people don't always get it right for sure, but it is unusual for them to be as 'off' as they were with their predictions this time. As you said, Brooke, just looking out the window still seems to be the most reliable technology we have.

NKIT - I wouldn't be surprise if we didn't break the record for rainfall in 2018 either. I'll have to check when I have more time.

And on the other hand, yesterday (New Year's Day) it was a balmy 68° here. I had my family over for dinner and it got so warm in the kitchen after all the cooking that I thought I was going to have to turn on the air conditioner. But, we made it through by opening the windows and back door and turning on the ceiling fan. Today, it's back to reality - currently 47° and heat pump running.

Boy, the weather has been crazy ! Monday it hit a high of 14 degrees here, with a low of 4 degrees. Tuesday was a high of 24 degrees. Today it is 58 and raining like crazy. We are supposed to get two inches of rain. It will drop to the low 30's this weekend.

Yep, NKIT - it sounds pretty much exactly how our week has gone here in Richmond - crazy weather for sure!

I went to Cincinnati yesterday to "goof off" with my friend. Left Cincy at about 5pm. Temperature was 51 degrees. Pouring rain (like it had been doing all day). By the time I got home a little over an hour later, the temperature had dropped to 40 degrees. Some time between midnight last night and 7am this morning, it snowed. Not a lot, but enough to cover the ground. Temperature right now is 27 degrees.

You know, I'm starting to think Ohio weather just might not be for me...

We had freezing rain night before last which made a crust on the snow that hadn't melted. Walking or driving was so hazardous yesterday that everything was canceled, even work! Our schools all around have been closed all week and it doesn't look like they will be open tomorrow with a low of -2 degrees and 20-25 degrees below zero wind chill overnight and in the morning! At least I can get to work today. Main highways are clear but the backroads are ice packed and terribly slick. And it doesn't look like it will get any better any time soon as more snow and cold is in the forecast for the weekend. Our schools haven't been out this long at a time forever!

Very cold here for us - wind chill of 19 today - but no snow. I honestly could use a snow day now so I'm kind of bummed.

Many posts online today about hell freezing over and people can now do what they said they wouldn't do till then!

Our coldest day of the year here with -13* this morning and warming up to -1*. <<shiver>> <<brrrrr>> Schools out all week so far. All activities canceled all week. Might go back Friday if it warms up. Our country roads are ice covered so school busses can't go there! -6* tonight and a balmy 25* tomorrow! We love Misery (Missouri)!

Today was a low of 10 degrees and is supposed to reach a high of 23 degrees. An improvement from yesterday when it was a low of 2 degrees and a high of 16 degrees. It is supposed to be in the 40's and 50's next week starting Sunday. It is warm here compared to Chicago where my sister and BIL live. Yesterday was a low of -27 degrees and all the schools were closed(she is a teacher). I can't believe how crazy this weather is.

So now we have an ice storm! We got rid of the packed ice over the weekend but now there is water everywhere! Not really flooding though.

School out 3 days this week and probably again tomorrow! We have missed 14 days this year so far! Worst winter I've ever seen! We've had bigger snows and worse ice storms, but we've never missed this much school and had weather events last this long and go from one thing to another in such a short time period. It's crazy!

Missouri has really taken a beating this winter! Usually my Houston weather station quickly shows the rest of the nation but last night they focused on Missouri and told us that we should not be complaining about our weather.

Hope you are able to stay off the roads Brooke.

The sun actually shined this morning!! http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/shine.gif And a balmy 6*F out there. High of 18* today and another snow event coming Saturday night into Sunday morning! Love Misery!

School out again today. The ice just can't get cleared off and too risky for busses. At least my main highway isn't too bad if you drive slow. I only have 6 miles to work but there are a couple hills that are pretty scary when it's bad. The ice glistening on the trees was beautiful this morning!
