I understand how you feel, Austin. I hope you can focus on having fun, but I know it's easier said than done.
Thanks!
Today I got out for a bit for ice cream and went shopping with my stepgrandpa to find him a part for his computer.
I've also had to repair a couple computers while I was here. When I get here the word travels fast - "Oh Austin's here, let's go bring him our computers!". :hilarious: Unfortunately the Best Buy here isn't very competent and is not very good so a lot of them have waited for my return lol. I leave Thursday and I still have 2 to do, one of them tomorrow morning. I'm not complaining though. It gets me out of the house and I'm not usually nervous because it's more of a job to me and I can do it. But social anxiety has really made it so that I don't want to get out much for shear fear.
One time last year I was at the doctor and the waiting room was packed and I was so nervous by the time I got back to have my BP taken it was sky high (in the 170 range) and I had to explain that sitting in the room full of people is what did it, and that I didn't have high blood pressure.

T&H, glad to hear your mom is doing better.
Austin, hope you are doing better too! Enjoy the warmth and sunshine while you can. We had a little snowstorm here yesterday and it was 10 degrees this morning! :scowl:
TT, I'm thinking we need to see one of your pictures! I admire anyone with artistic talent. I have none!

T & H-- glad Mom is doing better...prayers are continuing for you both.
Austin--do what works dude. What ever you can do to keep busy and not think of what makes you uncomfortable is a good thing:thumbsup:
BJ--I understand....Wish mine was clean right now but I don't have the energy .
HB ---YOu are too kind..
Baking isn't really my strong suit in less its gluten free caramelized banana cream pie or the strawberry chocolate torte I made on a dare. I have been cooking since I was 7 and it gets on my nerves and I really suck at it. Although JAHH will tell you he hasn't starved in 32 years of marriage..lol
Brooke ----well , my love is making jewelry especially out of old things people don't want any more...But about three weeks ago when we had a lot of snow, I was with my neighbor and her boys and we painted.LOL it was so much fun. She just said here you go heres all kinds of colors and canvas and brushes and sponges and away I went.
I did a beach /light house scene for my step mom for mothers day. I put words in the beach grass to describe her and her beloved Cape MAy lighthouse....peaceful, calm, friend, loyal and Mom just to name a few. You cant see it In less you are on top of it...from far away its just a beach scene
Anyone who wants to see, send me a pm and I can email it to you cause I have not master photo bucket yet...lol don't tell..lol
No really thanks for the encourgment. It really is something that has helped me at a difficult time..after losing a family member suddenly . I just kinda lose myself in the colors .
thanks for all the encourgment

Oh a vinyal guy
Yes indeed. I now have my stereo system set up to do CDs, Tapes, Vinyl, and my computer/iPod/iPad/smartphone via headphone plug. I have just about every kind of music on there but I LOVE my vinyl...
I'm a big fan of album covers and artwork and so it's more for me to enjoy than a leaflet in a CD. I also love the analog warmth of vinyl as opposed to a lot of these remastered digital versions be it CD or iTunes that sound TOO hifi and sterile for my tastes. I do like Spotify and Pandora though - they are convienient. But for relaxing on the weekends in my guitar room - it's usually vinyl. I'm lucky there is a vinyl store not to far from here that I go to a lot and I'm always looking for them in flea markets and whatnot.

I'm trying to post for the first time in a while by typing with one hand. I recently broke my shoulder, and am just now catching up after having to reorganize my life. I'm fortunate because it was my right shoulder and I am a lefty. Also, lucky that I am able to work from home while I heal. So, I'm doing fairly well overall except I'm a lousy typist under the best circumstances, so one-handed typing is really a challenge. I'm even looking into buying some voice recognition software for my laptop.

Thank you all very much for your well wishes. I will say that a broken shoulder is a pretty painful thing. However, it's definitely a lot better than it was at first. For the last couple of days, I've been able to manage the pain with just Tylenol. It still hurts some, but the hard drugs made me drowsy all the time. And just an FYI for everyone - I can still dance on tables - I just need to be more careful on the way down!

yeah haha, but the first role I noticed him in was on Once Upon a Time. Though it was kind of weird to be extremely attracted to a killer while watching The Fall. They did these extreme close ups on his face and I nearly drowned in his eyes.
He's going to be in Fifty Shades of Gray, which I'll be interested to see. Even if the movie isn't great, At the very least he will be eye candy.

I'm at Universal Studios Hollywood! Will report back!
Universal Studios Hollywood is excellent. It is small compared to Disneyland (Anaheim), there are only about 10 attractions, total. The staff is very friendly, and the place is very clean and first rate.
The Studio Tour lasts about 40 minutes and you get to see all of the sound stages and bungalow offices where they're actually working. Also 3D King Kong fighting a tyrannosaurus, Jaws shark, Psycho sets, etc...They were filming a tv show as we drove by, and you could see the crew at the craft services table. It is a working lot.
I saw Maria Menounos coming from a taping of Extra - very pretty. They are filming Extra right on site now - fans can just walk up and watch the taping.
The best part was there is a new ride called Despicable Me Minion Mayhem - it is not actually a ride, it is a "virtual rollercoaster" - you are in a seat in a theater that doesn't go anywhere, but in 3D, boy, does it feel like you're going somewhere! The ride isn't officially open yet, they are still testing it, and we got to do it four times yesterday - no lines. Wen't back to do it again today, and it was closed, getting ready for the grand opening. The Simpsons ride is similar - 3D and scary/fun.
This place is expensive - $139 for a Front of the Line ticket, $84 for regular. Definitely worth it if you go to Hollywood, though. The views of the Hollywood Hills, Burbank and and the Warner Bros lot are fantastic. There is a VIP tour that is very behind the scenes that I think would be great for adults who are interested in seeing the real thing.

I managed to get up just before 2 am to take a look at it and could see it fine! But it was cold, 28 degrees, so I didn't stay out for all of it. It was almost completely in shadow. I wasn't overly impressed. The pictures online are awesome, but they obviously used a very nice zoom lens!
Right now I'm trying to catch up around here!

Definitely! Smart move.
I had today off and usually on a day off I lay around and watch Netflix. However, for some reason, I got into this productive mood - imagine that! - and wound up doing a lot of things I've been neglecting - like cleaning, grocery shopping, laundry... things normal people do regularly, but I put off, lol. Anyway, it feels good to get all that out of the way!
Right now I'm streaming Star Trek: The Animated Series and I'm searching for a cute Star Trek: The Next Generation Deanna Troi outfit (http://i.stack.imgur.com/UCKb0.jpg) for DragonCon in August. I have to order it ahead of time because I'm going to get it hand-made. Her hair is a like a thicker and more beautiful version of mine, and I'm going to try to do a feeble imitation of that as well. I'm going all out!

^ Tiffany, I am with you! I like painting and drawing, too, when I get a free moment, that is! I have good intentions coming home from work, then I end up climbing on the computer, editing photos instead or researching family history.
Today, I plan to finish buying some items to fill up some Easter baskets to take to some Easter events we're going to tomorrow.
I would like to paint a little or do something creative today, so I am going to hit Hobby Lobby today and see what will inspire me. I want to find a really fine threaded canvas to paint on. Some canvas' have too much texture. Not sure if Hobby Lobby would have this, but then if not, I will probably have to go to Dick Blick in Berkeley.
Anyway, am excited for a day with my man tomorrow. We haven't spent a whole day together in some time.

I totally know the feeling. I am archiving our family photos and like genealogy, it will never end. Just be forewarned, lol I hope you can get them off the main hard drive and onto a new one, though, before the other crashes! Always a good idea :) I store all my photos on an external drive.

what is this HOBBY LOBBY you speak of???
here its Michaels for cheap prices but its a regular craft store
I like the independent in town but he can be more money but the guy is super nice and always gives me 20 0/0 off my painting supplies.
I think I just have so much to do and as my son says mom you don't know where to start so you don't and you paint or make jewelery.
oh well laundry is calling my name lol

To answer your question TT, HOBBY LOBBY is a craft store like Michaels. But Hobby Lobby has so much more than Michaels IMO or least in the stores in Houston. HL has some really nice decorative items for the house. I have purchased many decorative accents for my home such as pillows, lamps, wall art, vases, etc. They also carry the typical craft items for scrapbooking, parties, painting, sewing etc. I also like the fact that Hobby Lobby is closed on Sundays so their employees can participate in their worship services and have a day of rest.
Hope you don't mind me answering BR. And I hope you found the canvas you were looking for.

I need to do that too TT. I can walk in there with every good intention of buying one thing and an hour later walk out with a full cart. They have the cutest things!

No problem at all, Houston :) Hobby Lobby is really new to California. I think they have mostly all their stores in the Mid-West, but just recently, two have or are opeing up in our local Bay Area.
Haha, after all that talk of me going, I drove over there and it wasn't even opened for business yet. I saw the "Coming Soon" sign up. Ahhh, so I went to Aaron Brothers (another frame, arts and craft store) and after that I also went to Michael's (we have those here, too :)
TT, I know what you mean about the local craft stores. I try to support them, too. A lot of ours have closed up for business. One local one was called the Hobby Depot. I loved that place as a child. It was in a really old building and it was just chalk full of fun craft items. I also liked Benjamin Franklin Crafts and House of Fabrics.
Oh, and I could not locate a canvas that had less texture, so I think I am going to have to either buy one online or go to Dick Blick/Utrecht in Berkeley.

I personally enjoy them better, too. I went to one about 8 years ago. But, since then, have gone at a later time. It's much more peaceful at sunrise. Not as hectic. I will have to try it again soon. I didn't get to make it to an Easter service this year and it just didn't feel right not going. But, instead, I went out and savored some nature and I felt peaceful in God's presence and I hope he can forgive me for skipping out on church instead. Nature was my temple today :)

That is so cool!! You'll have to post a picture of the finished work :) It sounds very cute and creative!
If you need help with Photobucket, maybe I can assist. Photobucket is just littered with ads and makes the website so slow. Plus, it's hard to navigate than how it used to be in the past. If I find another, better and less complicated site to upload images to post on here, I will let you know. Photobucket is kinda annoying me lately.
I agree. I love the smell of fresh and new canvases. I love going to Berkeley when I can (we head over there more often to feed our craving for Ethiopian food which we can't get here in the East Bay) and checking out the art stores. Their stores are a lot more sophisticated than out in the East Bay. I think because Berkeley is a college town/city (UC Berkeley and College of Arts and Crafts) and is known for it's vibrant and colorful residents, so art stores thrive there and attract more varied and unique items.
I have been disappointed in Michael's as of late because they hardly carry anymore name brand and unique oils/acrylics/watercolors. Maybe it just doesn't cater to the people who shop there, but would make it easier for us folk who want top of the line paints and not have to buy them online or go 20 miles out of our way for them. Hobby Lobby, on the other hand, for being a big box store, really impressed me with their selection of paints and canvases. They had HUGE canvases and several aisles dedicated to paints. I didn't buy anything at the time, but when this new one opens, I hope to buy some new paints.
I know what all of you mean by going into these places with the intention of buying one item and coming out with $25 extra on a bunch of super cute stuff. They suck me in every time!!

Watching 'The Muppets' with Laura. Hope you all had a great Easter.
We don't do Sunrise services over here on Easter Sunday, so I must go back to the States for Easter some year and experience one. We do hold Easter vigil mass however on Holy Saturday night. The church is usually in darkness and the paschal fire is lit outside. Then the priest lights the paschal candle and the light is passed to the congregation who all have candles. We then process into the church and say some prayers before the candles are extinguished and the readings begin. I have always loved it but as it's late and rather long we haven't been able to go since we had the children.

Z - it is a truck with a big container mounted on the back & it shoots out a fine spray of mosquito insecticide. The trucks go up & down the streets in the middle of the night spraying. You can always hear them coming down the street. When I was growing up they used to spray in the early evening. I wonder if they stopped spraying at that time because us kids used to run behind the truck in the mist. I think I only did it a couple of times before my parents found out and put a stop to it. Thank goodness!
However I bet you cannot find many kids in the South who at one time or another did NOT run behind a mosquito spray truck during the summer! Or at least those of my age.

However I bet you cannot find many kids in the South who at one time or another did NOT run behind a mosquito spray truck during the summer! Or at least those of my age.
wow...I never knew there was such a thing...I guess we don't have those up here...

Yes welcome to life in H-town in the summer! Where you can pass out from the heat & then be carried off by the mosquitoes. But seriously the mosquitoes carry encephalitis & the West Nile virus so the city takes mosquito control seriously. I'm sure mosquito control is done everywhere in the South.
Last year the mosquito problem was not bad here since we were in such a drought.
Sorry Z, I'm sure you were not expecting a tutorial in mosquitoes.

As an European (that used to live for some time in PA and WI, surely not the southern states :-) ) I find it informative and interesting! Thanks, HB.

Aww, poor thing. We also had thunderstorms here last night. I woke up because we have not had any significant rain here in a long time and it was thundering. It was a joy to hear. It rained all last night and will rain most of the day today then it should stop tomorrow morning.
Looking out at the gorgeous day unfolding and playing with my little Herman doggie.
Working on a text about Neue Slowenische Kunst (New Slovenian Art). Interesting.

Whew! Just got in from a whirlwind trip to PA to see the folks. I was supposed to drive up Thursday night, but there's a crisis at work, so I had to wait until 4:30 pm Friday to leave and drive 7.5 hours. The second half was nasty as it was pouring rain. Left my sister's today around 4pm and made good time coming back, and no rain. I'm a little sick of driving! The reason for the trip was a delayed Mother's Day celebration, and belated birthday dinner for my Dad, who turned 74 last Sunday, and my nephew got confirmed this morning at my sister's church. Found out while taking pictures that my new phone is the kind where you press anywhere on the screen to take a picture and if you press long enough, it just keeps taking picture after picture after picture. I was like a kid with a new toy and now have about a hundred pictures of him standing in front of the church!

I'm trying to catch up on the Border right now but I need to get up and start gathering clothes and toiletries. I'm taking my sister on a birthday trip next weekend to Bryan/College Station. She likes the antique shops there and she has never been to the Bush Presidential Library so we will go there. There is also a winery in the area so maybe we will hit that. We leave Saturday morning and will return Monday. Then Tuesday midday I am going to FL to visit relatives for the rest of the week. Before I know it, June will be over! Too bad none of this travel involves EAGLES concerts! :-(
