Hopefully your ankle will feel better in a couple of days AG95!

It's tender and a bit swollen, but nothing serious, luckily. I gotta be more careful next time.

I'm about to eat a nice, full (southern) supper: Meatloaf, yellow rice, boiled potatoes, butter peas, lace cornbread, and that above mentioned cake for dessert. :D :grooving:

Lacken, how was your interview?

I'm watching HGTV, where someone from Louisville moves to Montana. I've never been to Montana, but I know I'd love to live there. Why is it so far from family and friends? For Montana, I'd even put up with snow.

I didn't get it as I didn't have enough experience in the pharmaceutical production area - I come from a telecoms background. They wanted someone to write their operating procedures for them and didn't want to spend time training someone from scratch :-(
But hopefully I'll have another interview in the telecoms area next week. ....

Going through my record collection to make room for my latest buys. I've run out of room in my main storage area, so I'm having to go through and pick out the ones I rarely listen to, and put them in another area. Eventually, I plan to store some at my uncle's house(duplicates mainly)

ETA: if anyone wants or needs an Allnighter cover, let me know. The vinyl is warped(luckily I have 2 other nice copies), and I have no use for the cover. The printed inner insert isn't with the cover, though.

Good luck with that Lacken. At least the jobs market has improved over the past year or so compared to the doldrums it was in a few years ago.

I wonder how different the McDonald's over there across the pond are from the ones here. I've eaten there probably 12 times in my life, and I honestly don't like it. (I prefer Burger King or Dairy Queen).

I just left Subway. My almost 95 year old nana buys my mom and I lunch every time we visir her (usually once a week). We get it to go and eat it at her house.

Well I was in Florida last week. The main differences are that portion sizes particularly fries and drinks are bigger in the US. Also you have better variety in the menu items. I loved the sirloin burger with mushrooms and onions. We don't get them her. Also we have fewer of the salad varieties and the drinks are filled from behind the counter. But other than that tbere is very little difference. Oh and Laura said that your nuggets are nicer.

Yep Lacken, I was home by then. Sorry I missed you. Maybe next year.

I've had those sandals since I was 13 or 14, but I'm afraid that even gorilla glue won't work on this. Luckily, my nana give me some money, and I'm on the way to town to find a new pair.

Are you "Eastbound and Down," AG?

Jackie Gleason makes me laugh throughout that film series!

Yes, I am. All 18 wheels are a-rollin. ;)

Jackie has some of the best lines I've ever heard in a movie. His use of the word "sombi*ch" instead of the actual words is hilarious. Most of them, I don't think that I could post on here because of the language (how the heck did it only get a pg rating? ), but one that I love is when Junior says "Daddy, I thought.." Jackie/Sherriff Justice: "well, what did you use?" :hilarious:. My mom and uncle both used the line "Oh, you can think about it, but don't do it" on me.

Both 1 and 2 are great movies, but 3 was meh without Burt Reynolds.

RIP Sherriff Justice (Jackie Gleason) and Snowman (Jerry Reed)

Hi Folks

Long time no see. I hope everyone is well and listening to lots and lots of good music.
Myself, I'm currently recovering from the brutal punishment of fifty lashes with a wet noodle which was the tough (but fair) sentence administered to me for not checking in on the forum often enough by our esteemed Soda Scouts, whom I had the pleasure of enjoying dinner with earlier this week.

I was happy to take the lashes, by the way, as the alternative was listening to two Justin Bieber songs ALL THE WAY THROUGH. That would have been way, way too harsh.

Brooke - the Planters peanuts in cans and jars are not the boiled peanuts that AG95 and the others are talking about now. Since AG95 is living in GA I bet she is talking about peanuts that are actually boiled in their shells in salty water. I'm sorry but those things are AWFUL!! :hilarious:
Seriously my dad loved boiled peanuts. When we would visit our relatives in FL one of his favorite pasttimes was to go to the flea market and walk around after picking up a bag of boiled peanuts. I never developed a taste for them and I will try them every once in a while. :yuck:

HB is right Brooke. Basically, once you pick the peanuts, you wash them thoroughly to get all of the dirt out. Then you get a big pot, fill it about half full of water, dump the peanuts in, let them boil for 3-4 hours, and add salt every half hour or so to your liking. I go crazy for them! It's that time of the year again! Here in Georgia, there are festivals just for peanuts (as well as grits and even fire ants :hilarious:). I'm only about 80 miles away from the national peanut festival, just outside of Dothan, Alabama. It's the local favorite snack!

There are canned boiled peanuts, but they're nothing compared to fresh ones. Planters does make great roasted peanuts, though.

I've eaten so many at one time that I ended up in the emergency room because the massive amount of salt caused my blood pressure to skyrocket.

No, it wasn't. For some people, they are an aquired taste. Sometimes, you get some nasty ones that are immature or just don't taste right.

AG95 - you and my dad would have gotten along great! :) Except y'all might have been fighting over the last peanut. :hilarious:
My other dislike for boiled peanuts besides the taste is that they are so darn messy! But I know I am probably in the minority since everybody else in my family LOVES them!

Lol, that's probably true!

The juice is what makes them so good, imo.

I just got back from the ER with my hubby. He was picking up a 2x6x10 piece of fur wood and it slipped embedding a 3 inch long piece of wood in his hand. OUCH. They put lidocaine in the hand and had to cut it open to remove the sliver. That was about 2 hours ago and now the hand is waking up. I hope he doesn't have a long night of pain. :worried:

I'm catching up on the board during my much-needed day off. The last month has been exhausting. I've worked without a break for the last consecutive 18 days and I'm so looking forward to this 4-day weekend.

This week we closed the sale of my Mom and Dad's home, which was very emotional. Then, I made an appointment to get the oil changed in my car and the car dealership contacted me about trading my car for a new one. They made me an offer I couldn't refuse, so as of last night, I have a brand new car. After I finish posting here, I'm going to fix me some lunch, and then go out and put all of my 'stuff' in my new wheels.

Congrats on the weight loss. I'll take any you want to spare. I lost a few pounds this past week but I have until the beginning of October to gain those few pounds back.

I am watching football. My oldest son is in Washington DC to see the Redskins/Dolphin game while my other son went out with his girlfriend for the day. They are getting ready to go on vacation to see a race at Circuit of the Americas next weekend. This is the very 1st start of football that I am sitting at home watching. I usually go to a local sports bar with my oldest & his friends. I could have gone without him but the thought of spending 4 hours on a stool doesn't sound exciting. He also forgot to give me his password so I can't even watch NFL Gameday so I am stuck with network games. My fantasy team is looking good so far.

Freezing cold here, went from 90's last Sunday to low 60's today.

I never heard of needing immunisation records to go to college. Is that normal practice in the USA? Over here you wouldn't need them even to get into school. Its a parents decision. Immunisation for certain diseases is OFFERED through the school system but is not compulsory. In fact a few years ago a parent took a school to court for having her daughter immunised against her (the mother's) will and the mother won the case and was awarded compensation.

It's required for public school in general, starting with elementary school. If a parent doesn't vaccinate their child, he/she can't attend public school. I'm not sure what shots are required, obviously the 2 I got. It's even required for online schooling. I did part of the 10th grade online (never completed), and my mom had to send in my immunization records, even though I never attended a physical school. If a parent chooses not to vaccinate, homeschooling is the only option, although I'm not sure about private schools.

I hadn't had any immunization shots since 1999, so I was due for some, lol.

ETA: I believe that the requirements of the vaccines are different between high school and college. When I did the online school, I remember being told that I could use a chicken pox booster shot because I've never had it, but it was optional. I didn't get it. That was in summer 2012. This time around, I had to get it.

Sorryfor your loss LT. My pa pa(uncle's/mom's dad) died about a week before Thanksgiving in 2013. At the time, his wife (the grandma who died this year) was in and out of a local hospital. I wasn't too close to them, but it really hurt my aunts and uncles, like it is now for my uncle. (He was caregiver for both of them.). Plus, as I said before, my dad was sick all throughout December in 2006. It doesn't seem like almost 9 years have passed. My mom is very emotional this time of year. I feel a whole lot of depression and sadness during November/December, but I don't get emotional (ie sobbing). I remember the fun times with my dad. I believe that he's watching over me from someplace, and that he's my "guardian angel". The differences between my mom and I make this hard time 10x harder.

Thanks AG. That's what I'll do. ;-)

Right now I am watching it snow like crazy!! Just in time to travel, yipee.......
The pass we have to go over should be a blast. My son drove home from college today and just about ditched it. Good thing we taught him to drive well... And I'm getting ready to hit the hay, lots to do tomorrow before we head east.
Hey they were a great band.....HaHa

Hey, guys, I know what you're talking about because my father passed away just a few days before Thanksgiving in 2009, on the 24th. So tomorrow's going to be my day to be wistful. We'll always remember.

24 November 1985 my godfather passed away. I remembered him on FB last week and one of my cousins lads commented that it was 30 years ago and it felt like yesterday. My godfather was his grandfather. I knew exactly what he meant. It never leaves you and we always remember.

I just got home after spending Saturday evening with my uncle. We spent several hours watching old videos of his cats and other things. It all started because of Facebook's "on this day" thing. I found this photo (https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfa1/v/t1.0-9/376441_207281246015561_481434343_n.jpg?efg=eyJpIjo idCJ9&oh=85e4965ab558e3b6a88e288dca4d1baa&oe=56F97D8E) of my grandparents' cats at feeding time back in 2011. Seeing those videos brought back alot of memories, but also sadness because alot of the cats have died and so have my grandparents. It was nice to see them again. Some of the other things included videos of a local dragstrip (racetrack). My dad worked out there for over 13 years; I grew up there. I've been thinking about him since I saw those videos.

Whoa, AG! That's a lot of cats! Reminds me of my childhood as we lived on a small farm and always had quite a few cats, but not that many! I think we counted 15 on the back door step one time! That was before the movement to have them spayed or neutered!

Ga, hugs to you at this time.

That wasn't the whole herd, believe it or not. I think that the most my grandparents had at one time was about 50. My grandma fit the definition of crazy cat lady. She loved all of her cats, even the ones with no names whom you couldn't even touch. They were her life. She nursed many sick animals back to health. Since they lived out in the country, surrounded by plantations, the cats had/have alot of area to roam. Sadly, despite the love my grandma had for them, none were ever spayed or neutered. It all started with a couple of strays that showed up.
It's now down to about 15 that my uncle still takes care of. All but one have names and are very friendly. I counted 6 from the photo I posted that are among the 15. The 6 my mom and I have are enough for me.

I've just started reading my 20th book of the year. There's a website called Goodreads, where you can rate and review books, make friebds etc. The site encourages members to make a reading challenge each year. I challenged myself to read 20 books in 2015, and it looks like I'll meet it soon! :yay: (if only New Years resolutions were this easy lol).

My town is the only one in the county that has a parade. It's a tradition. The whole county shows up for one hour on the first Saturday in December at 10 am to watch. My nana's small city has there's at 1:30 pm, so we eat lunch with her, and go watch it. Then, the big city in southwest Georgia has theirs at 6 pm. One of my foster grandmas lives right where the parare starts, so we can just park in her yard and watch it from the sidewalk. Then, my mom and I go looking at Christmas lights. That's become our tradition.

I took some photos. I'll upload them later today.

Garth Brooks is doing the last of his 6 shows tonight in our town. We live a block away from the Arena. It has been fun watching-hearing the crowds come and go.

Last night he did a show at 7 and then another one at 10:30. I took pictures from my 4th story windows of all the people walking and driving and biking between shows.

I heard he did a great job.

2 weeks before Christmas & I broke my ankle Thursday afternoon. I have almost nothing bought, no tree & won't be making cookies.

This morning, my son to me: I have something in my eye.
Me to my son: no you have pink eye & need to go to urgent care
Son to me: No I have something in my eye
Me to son: I am going to try & get flip flops on & take you to urgent care
Son to me: It's your right ankle I will drive myself
Son to me (on phone) I have pink eye...shut up!

The really bad part is his girlfriend's dad just came home from the hospital after having open heart surgery so he can't go over to help out at all. On top of all of this her uncle passed away & neither of us can go to the viewing or funeral.

I am voting for Christmas in July this year.

I hope your son is ok JMS, and also that your ankle heals quickly. Maybe someone can bring a tree in for you - even a fibre optic one that only needs to be plugged in? And I'm sure for this year you can get the same goodies that you usually cook from a good quality store that might even deliver for you. I k ow it will be difficult to have your traditional Christmas but I hope you cam get it to work out.

I've tried to do some free form writing outside of school, but I never got the hang of it. I find it difficult to get the thoughts to go from my head onto the paper. Plus, as a young kid, I was never encouraged to read or write on my own. My mom thought that it was stupid. I would prefer something like a museum curator or researcher.
