Taking a break from writing performance reviews. I have 4 more to do! The only thing keeping me from losing my mind is that I wrote 3 yesterday while listening to a Don Henley playlist, and today I'm listening to the Eagles one to get me through!

flying to Vegas for a couple of days (seeing a friend there), then roadtrippin' around California...
LA for a couple of days (seeing a friend there too..and gonna try to swing by Tana's and the Troubadour.
Can't see a show at the Troubadour, but will at least get a look at it and some pics..and not sure if we'll eat at Tana's, but I definitely at least want a drink at the bar where Glenn came up with the idea for Lyin' Eyes :yay:

then heading up the PCH...San Luis Obispo for a night...then heading up to Big Sur...staying in Pacific Grove for the rest of the trip and flying out of SFO.
excited to get to hike and explore the beautiful Big Sur. I've been before, but didn't stay too long.

A week of staycation which has turned in to a week of babysitting for my grandson! Not what I had really wanted to do, but I don't mind helping out when in need. They had a very hard time finding day care and finally did, but poor baby can't get in for 3 weeks! I'm taking this week and my sister is taking the next two! I had no idea there was a shortage of good day care!

tjh532
08-18-2014, 09:28 PM
I think the key word there Brooke is Good day care. There are a lot of people out there who babysit and watch kids - but it doesn't mean they are qualified, or that you would want your grand-babies there. Glad they found a place they like and that will work. :)

sodascouts
08-20-2014, 12:57 AM
That sucks for you, Brooke! You're a good grandmother to step in when needed.

DJ
08-21-2014, 09:56 PM
There seems to be a huge shortage of "good, qualified daycare" so lucky for you Brooke you could pitch in. Too many of these little people get put into daycares that are ill equipt to care for anyone much less a baby or toddler that cannot speak for themselves. I stayed home with my children until they started school for that very reason. I was new to my city and didn't trust anyone with a little person especially my little people. So kudos to you granma!! :yay:

Glennsallnighter
08-25-2014, 06:00 AM
Good on you Brooke! my mum took both of mine too until they reached the age when they could speak for themselves, and also needed to mix with other kids. (about age 2). She didnt have the two together though and it was only part time. It is so difficult here too to get good child care. Most creches charge the equivelent of $1000 per child per month and only suit people who have Monday - Friday day jobs. There is nothing for weekend or night workers.

I'm just setting up my room at work for this year in school.

Brooke
08-25-2014, 03:57 PM
I did enjoy my time with him and it is very worrisome to have to take your baby to someone you don't know at all. They did look at two church day cares and one stood out to them and seemed to be much warmer and friendly than the other, so I hope it works out. It is also close to dnl's school, so it will be handy for her.

My mom and snl babysat for my kids back in the day, which was wonderful!

Right now, I'm trying to catch up around here!

Hi I am a new member in Scotland! Never used forums before and no idea how to create my own posts, so forgive me I guess I am doing this wrong!
Many years ago one of my Eagles CD's which I have now mislaid had a live version of Hotel California on it which I loved. It had a really really long intro mostly piano /organ which lasted forever and slowly started throwing in chords from the track which the crowd started to recognise and started cheering, and suddenly the band were into the song proper. I have tried to identify the album thorugh various means for a few years with no success and it's doing my head in!
I would be really grateful if someone could put me out of my misery and tell me what the album was so I can buy it again.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.

It is possible that it was MTV unplugged recording in 1994? I just found that on the net so mebbe I was just wrecked when I heard it first and can't quite remember it right!! If it was MTV recording can this be downloaded?
Maybe I got the bit about Piano/organ wrong! It was a long time ago!

I'm trying to research my family tree and going a bit crazy. I researched my family tree about a decade ago and made a LOT of progress on three quarters of it. One branch I got all the way back to them coming over from Switzerland in 1745. The last branch, I never got further than my great-grandfather. Every member of the family seems to have a James Lawrence or Lawrence James in their family, going back two generations. All lived in the same county, so the census records are impossible to figure out. I thought that since it's been a decade, maybe someone else figured it out and so I coughed up the $$ for Ancestry yet again. No...no one has figured it out, and they're all still named James Lawrence or Lawrence James.

VA, I want to do that so bad, but can never seem to find the time to work on it. I've done a lot with info that I got from my mom and grandmother, but I need to go a lot further. I've also thought of buying Ancestry too. I should be working on it this winter while I'm stuck inside.......

Have fun VA! I have to place my lights on my Christmas tree just right, maybe I should try "tossing" them on! It might go faster!

Last night I looked up at my Christmas tree and the top half of lights were out! I had even put two new sets on since those parts that were out when I put it up! (supposedly a pre-lit tree!) And things like this is why I'm sometimes a Grinch at Christmas! Hubby fiddled around with them later and they came back on. Whew! I was already getting Grinch-like!

Austin and Soda, sounds like fun was forthcoming!

Just got in from one office Christmas party, and heading out to another. The first was a lunch pot-luck thing that included all the military, government employees, and contractors that work on our project. The one tonight is just the ones that work for the company I work for, and instead of having it at our local office, I rented the community center at my apartment complex. So, I need to head over there and set up. I already can't wait until I get back home tonight...

Sorry for the delay, MC - I haven't yet caught up here. It was a very interesting cruise. We learned more @ bats than I thought possible. I am somewhat of an expert now - LOL! Our 750,000 bats were probably not as spectacular as Brooke's because they did not come out all at once in a huge cloud form. Instead they came out a few at a time because they were all female and pregnant. We were told they would deliver in June and then after 5 to 6 weeks, the babies would fly out with their mothers. So then instead of 750,000 bats, it would be 1.5 million and they would come out at dusk in swarms. August is supposed to be a great month to observe the spectacle.

I thought of WalshFan too when I mentioned Austin!

That to me is my worst nightmare!! Especially with all the little babies flying about :fear: I actually feel sick at the thought of it.....

It made me remember a time when I was on holiday in Portugal with my sister and we were at a zoo. We went into a cave like area to look at snakes and lizards when my sister called me over to a large window and said look - then she banged on the glass and ran while hundreds of bats started flying around inside the glass room - I of course screamed and ran and found her outside laughing!!

No, but it kicked up a big asthma problem for me, and it was the first I've taken antibiotics in a long time, and that triggered all kinds of 'flora' issues, including a skin ulcer (that has thankfully completely healed without a scar) that's similar to a staph infection, except, of course, not staph. Oh L101 - You'd better get your priorities straight! :fingerwag: Then again, when I think about how how hot Richard Gere is in that movie, maybe you already do!

Trying to rest. Earlier this afternoon, I was walking down my front dteps when my dog ran by my and tripped me. I tried to plät my feet on the ground, but when I put my left foot down, my ankle gave way and popped. Luckily, it's not broken or black n blue. I think it's just twisted. *breathes a :sigh: of relief*
